All jokes aside, I remember sinking my teeth into Shadow of Chernobyl fresh out of beating Fallout 3 as I was still hungry for more post-apoc survival RPG. Coming from the Fallout series, known for being a bit more grounded in “reality” (or at least being more believable), that game completely threw me off guard and genuinely fascinated me at every turn. The survival aspects and difficulty of the STALKER series made Fallout look like a kid’s sandbox. The metaphorical vagueness of The Zone, the disturbing creatures found throughout the game, and the unexplainable paranormal anomalies throughout the game both frightened and encapsulated me. To this day, Shadow of Chernobyl remains one of the most memorable games I’ve ever played and I’ll never forget how I felt going into that game completely blind - no guides, no wiki. Anyway, just wanted to throw in my two cents for the few people out there who haven’t yet played a STALKER game. If you haven’t... do yourself a favor and do so.
I started watching the both of them before these memes before this was ever mentioned, I’m glad I knew about them both originally I found these comments
Nyuyse That's what makes the ending so great, his final inner monologue on the last couple of pages is fantastic because the whole book is just suffering and filth and the final line completely contrasts that.
Since Arthur was created by Vulture's wish at the golden orb, do you think his wish is really the "will of the Zone"? Is Red allowing the Wish Granter to exercise self-determination? Probably not. But Red does give the sacrificed Stalker his wish essentially, making amends for the cruel betrayal necessary to reach the Wish Granter in the first place. It's almost as if he wants to say "I should've thrown myself in the meat grinder and let you live."
Red is the only one who called Arthur a wish. I interpreted it as Red being bitter that he tried to live life in the zone by guiding people who insisted on going to back to safety and being pretty selfless, while vulture killed people for gain/so he wouldn't split profits. Red has an objectively awful life and vulture has a pretty good one so Red insists its a supernatural occurrence rather than the world simply being unfair. The orb probably does nothing and they misunderstand it like everything else in the zone. Red is always altruistic even if he's abrasive. His final dialogue is nothing truly new
StayCalm0 ...or the orb does actually do something, we never find out but I guess that's the beauty of it; either way it doesn't really matter because we see Red come out the other end of his hardships not completely destroyed. He lays his heart bare for both any sort of "intelligence" watching and us reading, guess I've always seen it as astonishing and miraculous in that it shows us that even a life like his does not have to have a bitter end but even after all his mistakes and bad luck he chooses a wish that is altruistic (like you said) and kind.

Roadside Picnic is one of my favourite books ever. I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. It's a pretty short piece of science fiction, yet absolutely thrilling and surprisingly profound. Funny though, it has nothing to do with Chernobyl and the story is not even happening in Russia or Ukraine, but I guess deveopers decided the game would be a lot more marketable this way.
@@angquangnguyenthac2833 If you're talking about Tarkovsky's "Stalker", it actually happens in an unspecified location. Moreover, it was shot 6 years before Chernobyl incident even happened, sooo... yeah.
It's really an excellent read, first time I saw the film I had to put the book out of my head and take the film at face value. The two work alone wonderfully, but together form a brilliant body of art. The games, and I played Shadow of Chernobyl and Pripyat seemed to be in the same universe but too far removed. Glorious none the less!
Get the AK and remove muta-- I mean get the automatic intruder deterrent device and expropriate the genetically challenged individual of it's vital functions.
This man is prophetic. Watching this review in 2023 is surreal. Like how could he make so many references to events that have not happened yet. Sseth truly is a time lord.
Yes... an alternate exit... Of course. I knew that. I certainly didn't crawl around for three hours popping off hail maries at the machine gun until everyone in the outpost was dead... That's something an idiot would do...
I've completed the game like 4 times and I've always tried my hardest to survive the machine gun shooting at me.. I never knew about any other ways of leaving that location...
I did that too! But after I got the guy on the machine gun I rushed in and murdered the entire camp as you can abuse the machine gun's limited firing arc. Still pissed off that I couldn't steal it since it's mounted to the railing. Eventually found one I could use in the second to last area. Having played the first game I figured that needing to get through the hail of bullets was just another part of the Stalker experience.

Stalker Anomaly was recently updated to its final version and its like an unofficial sequel to the series that combines all maps while having its own fanmade story mode thats actually pretty good and acts like a continuation of the games. The only bug I encountered in over 100 hours of just exploring anomalies and wiping out military to get their loot to save enough money to buy myself an exosuit, was a memory one, that you can simply fix by clicking on the two options right under the start game button to clear your cache or something. Idk how it works but it does. Highly recommend.
Just started playing anomaly and after 25 hours of gameplay i have almost forgotten that its a free mod. Its very bug free, pretty tightly balanced with well thought out game mechanics, and has tons, and i mean TONS of content. Amazing what a lot of passion can accoomplish.
@@Azure9577 start out with the first game called shadow of chernobyl, anomaly is a mod which is way harder than shadow of chernobyl and anomaly requires you to know the basics of the unmodded game in order to play it.
This made my day most fallout players be comparing it to stalker and saying fallout 2 and nv is better

"HAPPINESS FOR EVERYBODY, FREE, AND LET NO ONE BE LEFT BEHIND!"
The best part of the book.

The location is based on the film, which is does in Chernobyl
@@angquangnguyenthac2833 If you're talking about Tarkovsky's "Stalker", it actually happens in an unspecified location. Moreover, it was shot 6 years before Chernobyl incident even happened, sooo... yeah.
Well the powerplant is a dead giveaway
It's really an excellent read, first time I saw the film I had to put the book out of my head and take the film at face value. The two work alone wonderfully, but together form a brilliant body of art. The games, and I played Shadow of Chernobyl and Pripyat seemed to be in the same universe but too far removed. I did that too! But after I got the guy on the machine gun I rushed in and murdered the entire camp as you can abuse the machine gun's limited firing arc. Still pissed off that I couldn't steal it since it's mounted to the railing. Eventually found one I could use in the second to last area.
