I was able to witness the event in China so I would just like to clarify couple of points. (1) Haisam showed great sportsmanship throughout the whole event. He agreed to cut weigh via courtesy as was not required by the contract. This is extremely rare in our beautiful sport. And gave his congratulations after the match. Reaction observed was purely out of disappointment. He is a young talented rising star with very bright future in the sport. (2) The match was a best of 3 submission only with allowed use of cage. This match was a main event in WLF’s WARS MMA monthly show. (3) This was the first professional BJJ super fight in mainland China. If received well by the audience in and out of China, WLF will pursue these event. This would be a great opportunity for professional fighters. Please share. (4) Lachlan not only had a great performance, but also showed great professionalism the whole time. And hopefully will return in the WLF’s cage.
This format really pushes the athletes to be on their game and gives you a second chance if you made a silly mistake early on. I like it. Let´s keep experimenting with different formats of competition to keep challenging the evolution of BJJ.
I really like the round concept. Very much reminds me of how you roll in class. Tap, and then you go at it again. It's the same thing except obviously with competition intensity.
Most Chinese audience were confused AF. No wonder they never promoted this match. LoL, I live in China and watch WLF organized event regularly, yet even I didn't know about this match.
I know Lachlan has his PhD/was a physiotherapist student at one point. Soon ill be going to school for Physical Therapy so ill get my DPT. Does he have any advice on how to balance BJJ/training, school/studying/clinicals, part time work, and having a girlfriend (really trying to avoid her hating me because of my lack of time hahah). Thanks man, be well
Great match. I lived the ashi garami entry from standing. It's always hard for me to pull that one off. Congratulations on the win against a great opponent! 👍
absolutely clinical performance by a mild mannered genius. rida is awesome btw, total killer; buy giles is just a level apart of the world's best leg lockers.
It is super risky doing that style of passing against a leg lock specialist in this rule set. I am glad to see jiu-jitsu gain some traction in China. When I lived in China, you wouldn't find a jiu-jitsu gym outside the largest, richest cities.
Lachlan explains it in his new half guard instructional on bjjfanatics. Essentially it's reaping because in the move he's throwing his foot across his opponent's hip but it shouldn't be called for reaping in tournaments because his opponent's foot on the "reaped" leg is behind the "reaper's" hips. I'm not sure if I'd test that theory in a tournament as refs are a little trigger happy with reaping calls IMO but in training and when reaping is legal, it's a pretty effective move.
@@diabolic42090 I'm so happy I did, a lot of fantastic concepts. Definitely worth it at any price though. This match shows it's effectiveness. Frames are what won him this match and thats half guard baby
Man Haisam seems like a good dude... sorry for his legs. I wonder why he went for leglocks tho... wouldn't a triangle oriented game have suited him much better? Plus Lachlan has small feet so good luck getting a proper heelhook
Great job and awesome for such a smaller guy to win and all.. But honestly, is it me, or is there something uninteresting/boring about leg locks? Maybe it's because I've never taken the time to get good at them, but I don't know, don't really seem like real combat...
The body shape Lachlan uses while escaping side control (at 7:15), where he turns away from the opponent looks a lot like 'Hawking', a defensive posture developed by Priit Mihkelson as part of an unorthodox defensive system. Is he familiar with Priit's approach to defense, or is it coincidence?
Good job and great sportsmanship Lachlan! If you just apply a bit stronger force for that heel hook there's no 2nd round. (I guess whoever had this rounding idea didn't take this into account) I hope I have a chance to train with you one day :)
What wat Raida thinking? You lost to a leglock mater in the first round. You passed his guards twice thus you should have tried to attack his upperbody. You played the leglock game that you were not better at against Giles. A bad strategy.
My first thought as well. After he got caught trying to play a toe hold versus heelhook game (generally a bad idea), I was shocked to see him attempt it again in the next round.
John2corner my thought as well. Dunno what his game plan was but trading leg locks when you have much longer legs and the other guy is the coach of Craig Jones...?

This is a confusing long comment lol.
I noticed nothing worth clarifying or speculative poor sportsmanship.

Yeah I agree it's a good format!
Prof Giles, you are the man! From one of your students in Maryland. I hope to personally meet you one day. You improved my half guard 1,000%! Osss
I'm new to bjj and just found out Lachlan's school is 10 miles away from where i live. Do you think I should train with him?

Rida is a beast, and you made this look easy. Great matches! ❤️
beast is an understatement; he dominates. however, the leg lock entry game is a different animal & giles is pioneering it.

These guys have copied the Witcher Talisman for their logo?? 10:55
And they jacked the jurassic park logo lmaooooo zero fucks given

Chinese copy everything dude,
Lachlans wrestling looked awesome. Great head position. And tenacious leg game. Great win
Do you ever get in trouble for using a logo that looks like Jurassic Park? I mean I like it I'm just curious.
legit question
i doubt it because its not exactly the trex. giles is raptor
Yeah, China itself is in pretty big trouble right now for doing things like this.
This is China. Stealing, lying, cheating, and just blatant greed is how things work here.

What songs are they walking out too? Pop punk grappling
