      Needs a supercharger 👀

    • @joeracer302
      @joeracer302 Рік тому +18

      @@doktorzasinuseone issue with superchargers, ignoring heat soak and increased IAT, is the extra load put on the front main bearings. The sc pulley is torquing on the main pulley, and that puts extra load on the front main. This is especially true of a factory motor with aftermarket supercharger kit installed, but even when engines are designed from the factory for this extra load they still often have issues long term, especially when modified for more power than stock. I’m an engineer who’s worked for Ford and experience with amateur road racing and building engines for over 20 years. There are a lot of reasons why road race cars prefer N/A, especially amateur with less budget than factory team, but even factory teams stay away from superchargers. They’re good for drag racing or street, but less than ideal compared to other options for road race.

    Great achievement guys! Whilst it might not be a problem for you, on a turbocharged V8 engine which I ran wasted spark, I had a whole load of issues with backfiring under load.
    The issue in the end was due to intake valve opening slightly before TDC, some fuel and air would leak in when the wasted spark fired, casing back firing.
    It may not be a problem for you if you are running NA. For me, the only way I could solve it was going to sequential ignition and it totally transformed the running of the engine.

      The problem with V10 ford is that the crankshaft is a weakness. That is why no one really does anything for the V10. I would say with the dual overhead cam heads it's possible that it's close to it's limit on power. With that being said...it sounds truly beautiful.

    Needs a performance Y-pipe(increasing diameter) or an X-pipe to really have THAT sound that you're looking for. For the Y, do dual 2.5 into single 3.5, or if this ends up over 650bhp, do dual 3 into single 4. Not to mention that you'll also need equal-length headers. • @MrLuvtheUSA
      @MrLuvtheUSA Рік тому +2

      I think it was a small team at SVT that made the 4.6 based V10; which ironically came out to be a 5.4 I believe. That’s a totally different approach though. They had to cast a block, and have a custom crankshaft made as well as the heads. Ford missed the mark by dropping that project 😢

    • @mikealbert728
      @mikealbert728 Рік тому +3

      @@MrLuvtheUSA yes. It was a 5.8L. The displacement recalled the old 351 Cleveland and Windsor. They also used a common pin crankshaft for strength and high rpm. That's one thing I worry about on this build is the strength of the split pin crank at high rpm or lots of boost.

    • @dalewhitehead5378
      @dalewhitehead5378 Рік тому +1

      I have done some hot rodding of the ford v10. Nothing like this though. With my couple of built motors, I found the split pin crank is good for about 500HP and 5500 RPM MAX. I didn't do any cam changes, and it takes some work to get them to 500HP.

    • @BlownF150
      @BlownF150 Рік тому +2

      @@MrLuvtheUSANo, Ford did not miss the mark. Those of us old enough to remember the MM&FF, et al articles about that project know the inherent problems with that engine as well as any V10 based on the mod motor family of this era was NVH and the split-pin crankshaft. There are very good reasons why the 4.6 & 5.4 got more aftermarket support while the 6.8L was left to truck/RV/generator duty, it flexes a lot more than the V8 blocks where high-rpm and/or high cylinder pressures make it liability compared to investing the time, money, effort into the V8's.

    I always dreamed of Ford building this engine. They did build a single 5.8L 4V V10 (4.6 4V cobra motor with two extra cylinders) back in the early 2000s. That was just a skunkworks project, but was never put in anything besides a development 99 Mustang that was used to develop the Cobra R 5.4 4V motor. It was called the Boss 351. They used the 4.6L as the base instead of the 6.8L V10 because of the shorter deck and non split-pin crank.
    This is incredible stuff. Congrats! It sounds incredible. I can’t wait to see it in a car and ripping. Definitely subbed. Glad I found y’all, even if it’s at the end of the build.
