Speed on the football field is one thing, but speed behind the wheel is another...Brandon, Chad, Fred and Channing get the experience of a lifetime riding as a passenger with Dale Jr Earnhardt at Charlotte MotorSpeedway to launch our collaboration with Nascar.
Sparking interest from the Bubba Wallace I Am Athlete episode, which infamously featured the moment where Channing coined the challenge that, “drivers aren’t athletes”,
prompting Dale Jr to reach out to give Channing, Brandon, Chad and Fred a firsthand experience inside a racecar. Not intending to change Channing's mind, but rather offer a perspective that could provide more understanding into a driver's world. This episode starts off the I Am Nascar series, a special edition of I Am Athlete podcast with multiple episodes rolling out in the month of May and throughout the season.
Sitting down and smoking cigars on pit road, the guys reflect on their experience and curiosity about the history of racing and Dale's journey. The conversation gets deep talking about legacy, loss and life lessons learned along the way. Dale opens up about the day he lost his father and describes those final moments in detail and how he had to 'shake hands with Daytona' before racing there again.
Chad, more knowledgeable about the sport than other guys, talks the ins and outs of driving, the mentality of a driver and finding that balance of living life and still being successful. Like anything in life, racing is a business and Brandon gets into the landscape of owning teams, females in the sport and the finances behind driving professionally.
Switching gears, Channing asks Dale about the lifestyle and ladies that come along with being a driver and why he waited so long to settle down and have a family. Dale describes the wide open mentality and driving for Budweiser back in the day elevated that rockstar life which he says he has no regrets.
Talking about various emotions and energy into the preparation of the sport, Fred opens up about how he cried shedding actual tears before some of his biggest games number wise and can't explain why he did it but just did which then led to a further football discussion about Dale sharing his research into concussions and the fears that lie ahead with potential CTE.
As a spoof to our I AM Woman resident Chef Lowe, comedian Lou Young makes an appearance, catching Dale off guard and surprising the guys with a tailgate style meal that leaves them laughing at his delivery and timing of the meal.
Today's show kicks off the first of three more this month, with a new episode streaming every Monday at Noon eastern on the I Am Athlete UA-cam Channel. Special thanks to Charlotte MotorSpeedway, Hendrick Motorsports and JR Motorsports for helping to make this experience happen! I Am Nascar is a limited series and special edition of I Am Athlete podcast with episodes slated to air monthly throughout the race season.

They were in awe. And deservedly so, Dale Jr. is an icon.
They have respect for him because he's a massive redskins fan... and you gotta be crazy to love them 🤣
Cbcccc😂f
I think what Dale's father did was lowkey genius. He wanted them to build the car to see if their interest would still be there if they had to do all the work.
Dale's dad did the right thing dad's are magical... ain't nothing coming easy
@@blackneck77 fasho
Sr. was very genius, think he quit school I'm Jr high
I mean if he couldn't get money or something then and dad didn't help that would of been shitty. Imagine a teenager trying to work and save money for a few years to buy a racecar to build. Like a 0.000000000000000001% chance of success.
@@packlesswolf1 very true! I was speaking for He’s specific situation though, Sr. wanted to make sure that he raced because he wanted to, not just by association. I agree with what you said though
Jr. is a guy that had every reason to be entitled and be an asshole, but he's gotta be one of the more down to earth superstars out there. You wouldn't realize how massively popular he is if you weren't told. Seems like an awesome guy, made me a little sad hearing him talk about his dad
I had the chance many years ago to have a few Budweiser’s w him at a Daytona watering hole. I wanna say Rascals but I may be wrong. Absolutely humble and genuine. He signed a $20 bill for me before I left. Because that’s all I had on me to sign. He asked me twice if I was sure I wanted to do that, “because $20s don’t come easy”. Yes, down to earth!
That’s real 💯
The fact that his dad crashed literally right behind him was the saddest part. And his step mom ruined his family’s brand and name.
His father has a huge statue in the middle of the city of kannapolis nc.. he’s always around nc & humble it’s like if he walked in a store you wouldn’t even know it was him
He was raised humble and his dad made damn sure he stayed that way
a true legend of the sport you didn't need to be a nascar fan to know him RIP Sr.
Dale Jr. got me crying over here talking about his father. Man. 😭😭😭
listen to his podcast its amazing
When I was younger I thought Chad was the embodiment of not giving af. Channing has raised the bar to unreachable heights😂😂😂. Brah rolled up the pants
😂!!!
😂😂 And didn't fold on calling drivers athletes lol!
Honestly tho him saying they weren't athletes but he respects the craft and sticking to his guns has a lot of validity.
B Marsh is a smart guy. He is expanding his horizons which in return expands his audience. Like Fred Taylor says "exposure leads to expansion"

You can easily tell how much respect Dale and Fred had for one another. You can tell because people you respect you take a brief pause before saying their name and Dale did that with Fred.

God Bless you 🇺🇸
Hemingway said, "There are only three sports bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering. Everything else is just a child's game." That isn't the exact phrasing but it is something close to that!
Absolutely. Dale is amazing.
I hope big media corporations don't get involve with this show because it's perfect the way it is. DON'T CHANGE A THING!
I totally agree
Yeah but it’s gonna happen eventually cause money talks
@@mikethevicious usually I would agree, but I think these guys are different. They seem like they like what they’re doing, they’ve already got their nest eggs, and they’re in complete control. I don’t see a company being able to come in and influence them to change with $$. They don’t have to settle. They’re in a position to have all the leverage in negotiations.

This is why Dale Jr is so loved. The most down to earth, humble person. Would never know hes worth hundreds of millions.
He lived in a double wide trailer most of his career. He's the definition of humble. While he didn't accomplish anything close to what his father did, he's actually done more for the sport. He uses his popularity to continue to try to grow the sport. His podcast is amazing for the history that most fans aren't aware of. And let's not forget who he's brought into the sport, truex, chase, Bowman and more
With the amount of fame and recognition Jr. has had nearly his whole life, I’m amazed it didn’t go to his head and ruin him. He’s been great for NASCAR as a brand his entire life.
@@TheHottwhyrd I totally forgot about all the guys he’s brought into NASCAR! That alone is enough for me to respect him, but he decided to be incredibly likable, too.
Man l didnt even know his net worth was that high. My goodness
@@omgroony his pops definitely kept him humble. They had an “interesting” relationship.
Dale JR is a class act man. He was not his dad, but he was himself and I respected that even more about him. His dad kept him to the side to become his own man in racing because he knew that the NASCAR fans and drivers were gonna say that he was given what he got. He did it himself and made his own lane.
Not to mention that he was in Talladega Nights getting Ricky Bobby's autograph. Dude's legit.

That hit home for me
They say your not a man until your father passes and you have to make the decisions, right or wrong your on the hot seat

I saw this before bed and the video is over an hour. I was like, maybe later. I started and didn't stop. I could have cared less about sleep. Hearing men being men. Talking, joking, laughing and being human. Who am I to judge? Being a former Army Sergeant, my favorite thing was talking to my troops. No rank, just troops being themselves. This right here, is valuable to the human race. This is exactly how it was on deployment. And these are superstars. It shows there are no bounds. Just bonds. Brothers and sisters.
I was a sergeant in the army too. Been out over 3 years. This made me feel like I was in the field with my boys again.
I think this episode was so dope at times because they could NOT relate to Dale’s experiences. It really allowed Dale to open up and speak uninterrupted. Great episode.
Dales a real one and good on them for letting him talk it out. RIP TO DE3
I think they related very well... Sports is aboyt intense moments and performing skills at a high level

The professionalism and respect they give every guest is top notch. They're not reading off a script, the genuinely do their research and ask honest questions. Gordon & Earnhardt’s “rivalry” put butts in seats for a few years, and Jeff Gordon made a sh!tload of money based on Dale Earnhardt’s business model. They were actually very good friends away from the track, and were side-business venture partners, too.

This is by far my favorite episode, I’m a huge NASCAR FAN!!! As a black little girl I know it’s unheard of to like NASCAR. My father is a huge fan and I got into the sport. Richard Petty was the g.o.a.t. In my daddy’s time. But Earnhardt Sr. Was my g.o.a.t. Love Jr also. Him telling the story of his father’s dead brought back all the sadness. Those of us who were old enough to truly understand what happened at that moment could know something didn't feel right. Like your dad said, I saw a lot of bad wrecks over the years in NASCAR. I knew that Earnhardt's career was over when he crashed that day. I watched with everyone else as we waited for them to get Dale out of the car and onto a stretcher. When he didn't get out on his own and they surrounded his car, I knew racing lost a legend. As a huge Intimidator fan growing up, I just sat there silently with tears in my eyes.

Reminded me of Bobby Boucher from the water boy💀💀 “not only will I do it for ya- yes, yes I’ll do it for ya”
Jr is someone you could listen to for hours and not get bored
I was 23, I still can’t comprehend it
He just seem like a real honest guy
@@mandunya check out his podcast. i discovered a month ago and fell hook line and sinker. Dirty Mo.
Facts bro
Excellent interview. The genuine curiosity and interest shown by the host really comes across well. You can also tell that you guys took the time to research Dale’s background which made the interview flow well. Shout out to Dale Jr for being relatable and open.
I second this 💯..
Facts!!!
Just became a fan of Dale Jr's show from this interview alone
I love this show I'm a fan of Dale Jr now!!
27:12 My favorite part of the whole interview. "I just wanted to.. make it." We all feel that, seriously the game of life is won if you can make a living doing something that doesn't feel like work.
thanks to daddy he did.
@@justbecause9645 did u not hear him explain how tf he got started in racing? it had nothing to do with his dad it was him and his brother going to a junkyard and getting an old car and put a cage in it and raced which they bought themselves for a couple hundred dollars 🤦🏻♂️ learn ur facts and listen to the video
Man, who saw Dale Jr. being a guest on the show? Every week, they drop bangers. I ain't never listened to a Dale Jr. interview, but this was dope. Everybody knows the Earnheardt name, and to hear some backstories was cool. BEST PODCAST PERIOD.
I believe it. Dale came to 106 & Park; a platform you would never expect to see him on. I got the feeling he was a real one way back then
i discovered nascar 2 months ago and after watching the Dale Sr. documentary. i am hooked!!!.jr is my fav and this history of nascar will blow your mind
Its almost unreal. He died watching his boy living his dream. Tearing up.
my eyes are deceiving me. I thought it said live streaming at first. But yes it was very sad when he passed.
Huh?
Man I remember seeing the crash and was like damn you see worst crashes and guys jump right out the car sad to lose a legend like that
That's actually a profound observation! Never thought of it quite that way
Remember like it was yesterday. Never thought of it this way.
I'm a 21 y/o South African lady.. I do not watch sports at all but I appreciate this podcast.. The energy is good, ain't nothing but love in this room.. I love to see it..
I don't know 75% of the people they talk about on the show, nor do I know 50% of the guests. But every week I keep watching, I'm a 23 year old South African female and I love this show 🌼🌼🌼 very refreshing to see your comment.
Same
S/o from SA. Also love the show
Their not in a room
Me and you sis- same WhatsApp group. I just love the energy
Damn. As someone who’s lost a parent, this really hit home. I could feel the emotion from Jr. as he told that story. Never heard it before. He’s Is a strong man for getting out there and racing again because mentally that would’ve messed me up.
What Brandon, chad, Channing and freaky Fred got is a gold mind simply amazing how they can get anyone one here and have a great time for hours
Simply amazing!!!
not freaky fred 😂😂
U gotta watch for freaky Fred man he a menace to society
Dale Jr has always been a great ambassador for Nascar. Love this episode crossing between sport and culture.
You can see the sympathy in all these guys eyes even with their glasses on when dale tells the story about his fathers death. They are good dudes.
Right. I teared up myself
as a huge dale SR fan as a kid it makes me cry thinking about the crash and everything my ear doctor die the following Monday in the same exact way, heading home after work got clipped in the rear by a drunk and put into a wall on the side of the interstate and died.
i can only Imagine what its like for Jr to talk or think about his dad
Fred was crying
I've watched countless interviews with Dale Jr over my entire life and this was by far one of the best and comfortably open ones I've seen
This could have been 5 hours longer and I would have watched every second.
Right
Facts
Yea this needs to be longer
Tbh... When youre good, you're good.. This group work's ✌️🥰
Lol 😂
I almost had forgotten that Dale Jr. came back to Daytona and won the very next race after his dad died, AND his teammates finished 2nd and 3rd. One of the better stories in the history of sports.
Actually it was just Mikey in 2nd. Elliott Sadler was 3rd and he was driving for the Wood Brothers. Steve Park, Jr’s other teammate, finished 20th. But the fact that it was Jr and Mikey, a reverse of the 500 earlier in the year, was absolutely amazing and one of the most iconic moments of the sport.
Yea buddy, that race was RIGGED!
with an experimental engine.
@@douglasbuck2359 Of course it was....🙄
I got that MLB car sitting next to dales last win car ‘million dollar car’ with the confetti and money over both of them.
IDK why i skipped over this episode for so long... Im 7 mins in right now and its already one of the better episodes.
Bruh when i first saw it I was like...meh. I'm kicking myself now.
me too
Dale has some goooooooood stories
Facts! I can’t believe I didn’t watch this earlier
You know why.. cause black folks arent into racing apparently.
These guys got Junior to open up big time. This was a top notch interview and truth be told a top notch show. Never through NFL guys would have an interest in this as it's so outside the realm of stick and ball sports. Hell of a job on this.
Brandon is smart dude expanding the viewership of this show it’s crazy
That's not always a good thing and in this case I don't think it will be. When you get "them" involved then "they" try to dictate what you say
@@ejay2075 it’s UA-cam everyone is free to either watch or not , we can’t even dictate what content they put out
Ocho: I don't need a helmet.
Crew: What?
Ocho: I don't need a helmet. Look at my head.
The very next second: There will be no Ocho today, Chad! Translation: Helmet mandatory.
Lol right they was sir you either put it on or get out the car
One of the best shows yet. As a kid, me and my lil bro used to watch NASCAR just to see Dale Earnhardt do his thing on the track wearing all black! RIP to The Intimidator!
Best Dale Jr, interview I've ever watched. They were able to get the most authentic Dale and they didn't cut him off. Great Job Brandon, Ocho, Fred and the rest of the team.
To take a lap with Junior - now that’s a dream come true.
Never seen this show so calm. Brandon didn’t interrupt once. 😂😂😂
He did at 28:55
😂😂😂😂

I know nothing about NASCAR but the Earnhardt name is legendary. I appreciate this interview so much and actually made me want to watch some races. Great job as usual!
Dale had Channing cheesing the whole time, couldn’t put them teeth away for one second. He better respect them drivers now lol
Oh you know jr was givin Channing them Gs you know he was pushing it 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Damn right lol
If this show doesn't win some type of an award at awards season I am cuttin all the way up!!!
I love how Dale Sr didn’t make Jr be like him and allowed him to be himself and just was there to help and father him along the way.
Dale Sr was an asshole of a dad man. their relationship only improved when Jr went to Cup
@@GISJohn no the real asshole was the step mom. She ran DEI into the ground and lost Earnhardt's legacy to Hendrick.
well when jr wanted to start iRacing or predecessor of iracing sr got mad at him hahaha he told to get off the computer haha
@@lethalweaboo8662 in dales Jr's rookie year he finished ahead of his dad for the first time and got his first top 10. Later in the hauler he was getting changed with his dad and expected his dad to congratulate him the next thing he knew he had a shoe smoke him in the side of the head then dale stormed out of the hauler leaving jr behind. And that's honestly a tame story about Sr and Jr's relationship. Sr was a terrible father just ask Kerry or read Kelly's book
Sr. made sure that Jr. developed an appreciation for the hard work that goes into a successful racing career.
I think that may have played a part in making Jr. as humble as we know him.
Without a doubt, the absolute best interview I have ever witnessed. The four interviewers were OUTSTANDING. Their backgrounds made every question and comment spot on. I just subscribed.

I could tell Dale was holdin back some of the emotions. Ik that wasn't easy to talk about the tragic accident that took his dads life💯
Who knew i was going to cry during a NASCAR interview when he was talking about his father.
As a NASCAR fan (not a Dale Jr or Dale Sr fan and not knowing anybody else on this podcast), I have seen more than just a few podcasts with Dale Jr and THIS is the most I can see jr truly come out of his shell being such a shy guy. He needs to hang out with y’all off camera. We love us some Dale Jr but we also know that his shyness likely came from how hard he truly had it before the spotlight and even some in the spotlight.
Jr you did a damn good job man!!!! So glad to see you vibin with the homies my guy!!!
Never seen or heard a bad Dale interview. His interviews on The DP Show are some of the best. I really enjoyed this episode. My favorite thing about Monday is a new IAA episode
Idk how he does it. He's Strong but know it's got to be tough , well deff is cus you can even still see it on his face 🙏🏾#3
I’m a football guy, played and followed these guys I’m a fan. Growing up it was football, and pops use to have NASCAR for us at times, man oh man. This guy is. Legend and so was his pops, I was a child when Dale Earnheart Sr. Passed I still remember that. RIP , great to see in a closer view of how a great a man Earnheart Jr is. 🙏😊
Dale gained another fan today. Great interview and I loved how he tells a story.
He won favorite drive 17 (I believe) years in a row! Everyone loved him in the sport he’s a great guy
The day Nascar stood still was when Senior passed away. It feels like yesterday but its been 20 years. I never heard Junior be this open about what happened. Truly a sad sad day
