It's easy to see where the delightful chemistry between Amy and the Doctor came from. They are so relaxed and having so much fun in this interview.
Still a trip how The Fires of Pompeii gave us both Amy Pond AND the 12th Doctor, although they weren't playing them yet.

I've got a pretty good idea why Karen might like Rose best of the previous companions: Count the number of seconds Karen's laughing! Rose had that same 'enjoy everything' attitude. It lightened the show up a lot and made it much more fun to watch.
That's part of why Karen's shows as Amy are so fun to watch. Even in episodes where the worst things happened, Amy found an excuse to laugh her head off, or make fun of somebody.
