@@4improv getting a V20 part for that reason. just pop off and use, there's not even glue for the rest, just screws if you wanna fully oppen up the thing.
I haven't had to replace the battery on my LG V30+ yet as I haven't even had it for a year yet. That being said, I'm keeping an eye on battery efficiency and this video gives me confidence that I will be able to replace the battery when needed in a year or two and I won't have to throw away the phone and get a new one.
I just ordered a V30 Plus and I've always been opposed to "embedded" batteries and so having this info is great because the batteries always seem to carry very short lives! LOL Thanks
good one. thank you. just finished this repair successfully and this was useful. the old battery bended in the corner when applied some exstra pressure. bit scary part that one, but it came out once i could get a thin card underneath to get to the adhesive. a major part of the adhesive for the back cover didn´t make it. used the adhesive i was left with and it does stick enough. I use the phone in a cover anyways so it doesn´t have to be heavy duty. If you don´t use a cover i´d try to get new adhesive before repairing.
Is it me or do they design these new phones to make it a living HELL to change the batter? I'm only watching this video because I just got a brand new V30, so I won't have to worry about this for a long time. But, I miss the days when you could just swap out batteries! Good video. This dude is a pro! The HTCs are FAR worse. You go in from the front and have to pry off the screen. What fun!
This actually looks quite manageable. It would still be better to have phones be designed with at least a user-replaceable battery, but at least this can reasonably be done by a novice. EDIT: didn't see you mentioned the htc aluminum unibody phones. I had one and shied away from replacing the battery for that specific reason. Needing to buy a replacement screen when you just want to replace the battery, because it's so difficult to not break the screen in the process is ridiculous! (plus I also messed up the software with a bad custom rom which I was then stuck on, since all other roms were on older kernels, and I didn't have a backup phone anyway, so...)
A very well done video. The battery replacement no longer looks as scary as I had imagined. One question, does disassembling and reassembling the phone affect the waterproofness of the phone?
Bought the V30 in 2019, because I was too scared to try replacing the battery on my htc 10, which would've required removing (and probably breaking) the screen (and I also fucked up with custom roms). Now, two years later my V30's battery life barely gets me through the day anymore. Good to see that glass-back phones are easier (ie actually manageable) to repair. Didn't like the glass back at first, but I'm really glad now that I went with it (and slapped a dbrand skin on there for better grip)!
I followed all instructions and did it very carefully. Now the fingerprint reader gives me a message along the lines of "fingerprint enrollment failed.." when im trying to make a finger print. Any suggestions?
thanks for the helpful video,so there is no need to ad an other layer of glue to the back panel ,are you sure there is no risk of breaking the back panel ??
I bought one of these used to use strictly as a wifi capable audio player. There are many reviews touting the high quality DAC in it. Good to know battery replacement is not that hard.
He says he sets the hotplate to about 110 C, which is not correct. The hotplate shows a temperature setting of 42 C, which is 107.6 F. I believe he means he sets it to about 110 F. 110 C would be 230 F, which is above the boiling point of water. Just be careful on how high you heat the phone back cover.
He also said that it should be hot enough to burn your finger a little. 42 C couldn't burn a babies bum so I do believe he did mean what he said. Most likely he didn't set the hotplate correctly as it was just for filming purposes.
I can't find any true OEM batteries for replacement. Are there any known good quality aftermarket batteries available? My battery hasn't completely died yet but, it is definitely getting weak after 20+ months of heavy usage. I dont want to risk damaging my phone and take all the time to do this procedure to end up with a low quality battery. Miss the v20 style.
Thanks! Was originally concerned about loss of power button / fingerprint sensor but later discovered the battery was giving out. Of course over several months it gradually just doesn't quite provide what it used to but the last two days it was shutting down after showing 66%. Rear case removal was a breeze - since I had my phone inside a case, I didn't realize that the battery had swelled and actually pushed the rear case off on it's own! The swollen battery was also causing loss of contact to the power button / fingerprint sensor so I didn't even have to replace that component!
It's sad that this is considered "easy" these days. That said, thanks so much for this video. I'm still happy with my v30, but the battery is getting long in the tooth. I think I can get another couple years out of it now.
Got my battery replaced today for $20. Hoping to use it for the next 1.5 years atleast! (It will be 5 years if i can get it to work till the next year or so) I absolutely love this phone. There is nothing else like it in today's market!

I doubt it will be IP68 after a couple of month - I would definitely not try after the 6 month warranty is over ... I would also only do that after the 2 year warranty is over (At least here in Europe we have this 2 time ranges - 6 month/2years) after that lg won't care so you can do whatever ...
You'll need to replace the adhesive to get it waterproof again. You can get the original/same spec adhesive frame from the same places as the battery for a few bucks.

@CellularProz I always cringe when you have to use a heat gun/oven/etcetcetc just to get in the phone/laptop/etc... But this actually doesn't look too bad... Premature for me as I have yet to grab a V30 & i'm hoping my battery never gets to the point where I have to replace it to begin with (which of course starts with me minimizing my cycle counts)... I agree with Jeanette, you shouldn't have to disassemble a phone to replace the battery. There is no reason for this phone to be built like this when older phones of similar profile have readily removable batteries. Supply and demand are interrelated soooo, as WV591 said, stop buying phones without removable* batteries and the manufacturers will listen. *removable as in by design so as to not void a warranty or potentially screw up the seal. It isn't about capability, it's about convenience. As easy as this looks, it's bullshit to have to do it that way. It's why I still have my battered up old phone.
I like buying used lg devices but it's pointless because the battery usually dies under 2 years. Replacing this battery is a pain abd I'm not sure i can just leave it on the charger when the battery dies.
A thin-layer of glue was all that made it IP68 on the back. The Screen glass has always been EXTREMELY fragile. Lifeproof case is the real answer to water proof/impact resistance,
