All over the world, the humble little dinghy boat is the safe and simple introduction to boating for millions of people. Not in the town of Renmark, on the banks of South Australia's Murray River, however. There, in the otherwise sleepy town of just 8,000 souls, they like to strap souped-up outboard engines to their little dinghies and then race them at speeds of up to 80kph in a race that since 1981 has grown a deserved reputation as one of the fastest and wildest events on water, the Riverland Dinghy Derby.

I'm surprised that the winners of this were the two guys who didn't have one guy in front, motorcycle sidecar racing is all about weight balance and distribution and I thought the guys with the guy in front would win, but I learned something today, this looks like a hoot!

So I'm guessing the second man goes to the front of the boat to flatten it out during hard turns so it can skid and he goes to the back during straightaways so it can go faster with the front end popping out above the water
Basically, weight distribution is very key with this type of racing
+NJA2k8 I guess the second guy goes to the front to make the back lighter and easier to slide and to the back to decrease friction

+NJA2k8 no the dude up the front is to navigate the turns so the driver knows where he is going
+gale hefford couldn't the dude up front do both? couldn't the driver at least be a bit as familiar with the turns as the front guy despite having to steer? unless you're joking
