- On September 15, 2023 the Patriotic Duty offshore race team broke a 35 year old offshore powerboat world record by running their 47' Outerlimits GTX offshore powerboat from San Francisco Golden Gate Bridge to Marina del Rey in Southern California, breaking the old record by over an hour. This race, produced by @OceanCup was one of a series of endurance races hosted by the powerboat organization who aims to put the ocean back into Offshore Racing.
As a member of the Ocean Cup team, I was invited to participate in this historical race by filming and photographing the team from the chase helicopter as we followed them down the coast. This didn't go completely as planned, but that story is yet to come on a future, full-story video.
2023 was full of great photo adventures, but this event takes credit for being the coolest one I did this year. Thank you to team Patriotic Duty and Ocean Cup for inviting me to be a part of offshore racing history.

Superb watch and achievement obviously well planned. Bit of a dream thing to do for the team to do love it
Inspiring Story and Great video, thanks!
Fantastic video Erick. And amazing job by the team. Hey, you should’ve stopped in for a beer in Oxnard. 😂
Haha! Hey Tank! Nice to hear from you! Thanks for watching! Hope to see you for the Catalina Fun Run this year!
Simply stupendous guys. And such a proud fitting name...with great respect from a combat vet!
Congrats Gentlemen... Two decisive victories that likely will stand for quite some time! LOVE he boat / team name!!!
“That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little boat ride.”
Great video! The audio is awesome and complements the great footage 👍🏼
Thanks Scott!
Beautiful job and a beautiful boat!
I believe in speed and power! Well done!
Yes! Thank you!
Excellent Work !!!
Great Run!
Alot of things could have gone wrong, thats a long way offshore Great Effort!
Congratulations form a Ex Venice Ca MDR guy
Great job. Needing to know how choppy it can get must be crucial to planing the day of the attempt. I guess at that speed the swell height is just as important to know.
BAD TO THE BONE AWSOME KILLER JOB AND BOAT TAKE CARE,, ENJOY 2024 HAVE FUN,,
Hope to
Make it with the new boat brother! 😁👍
Bro they SMASHED those records!!!! Nicely done team! And great footage as always Erick 🤘🔥
Appreciate it!!
I hope that would have smashed those records based on that boat (tech) that wasn’t around back then. Beautiful boat!
Perfect weather.
That was an incredible feat !
A trained monkey could do that, or a cat…or wait….my goldfish.
Frickin awesome
Super cool for a trio of old F'rs !!!
Incredible 😆😆😆😆
Well done lads . From Australia . Cheers.
Awesome
Outerlimits breaks another world record. Sorry Reggie.
‘World’ record? Just like the American only ‘World’ series lol
When I was a teenager I needed a ride back fromPut In Bay to. Cleveland I knew some guys on a cigarette and they both worked at Cleveland Propeller for a guy who was more used to sailboats it was one heck of a ride it was just the three of us and we were strapped in tight they told me they took it easy so they didn’t bust anything this was back in 1974
Worthy!
How epic! I didn’t even know this was a thing and I live in Palos Verdes.. makes me want to break these records some day
Crave the wave. This never gets old..
I love the documentation by @FastLoudPhotography of these two very epic California endurance offshore World Records. The soundtrack with the tune 'Right of Passage' is as fitting as it's excellent. Thank You for always covering events like this and the #CatalinaFunRun for example. You guys rock!
Thank you for the kind words, and thanks for watching!!
Rich old guy sport.
That’s freaking awesome
awesome
Very cool. I’m not sure if I wanted to be Driving, Throttle, or navigating..
Call out someone with a 47’ Apache to run it back and let’s see how long this record lasts
Sounds good. Let it be known… This is the official call.
Is there a version without the music? Or at least toned down? Great vid but I love some roaring engine sounds
Sorry, we were doing 100 mph in the helicopter, 100 ft off the water.
All there is is roaring wind sounds and helicopter rotors. I did include the engine sounds from the GoPro’s on board the boat, but they were doing 100mph, too. Mostly wind.
Exactly what record was broken?
That is just SO American. Congratulation to the entire team, and the fantastic boat with its twin racing engines. Doctor George Whitehead
What's the record to San Diego?
Good question. I’m not sure there is one.
👊😎
Each engine was 1350hp???
Yes. 1350 x 2
‘World’ record?
Way to burn up all that fuel boys!
In Dead calm water . Big challenge ?
Great video. But how can it be a World Record when its between to places in the USA? You can't break it anywhere else in the World!
Lol. Someone from another part of the world is welcome to come and break it. That’s what they do in Cowes-Torquay.
@@FastLoudPhotography yeah I'm from Melbourne and have never heard the record described as a "world record".
And how is buying a really expensive boat "patriotic duty"? Cringe all over the place. Get over yourselves.
@@milesbaker7499 Our patriotic duty is only to the USA - non Australia. No need to get your feelings hurt. If you read the captions in the video, the name is intended to honor our military service members and veterans. None of this team, including myself, could care less if you are from Melbourne and how the name or record triggered you.
@@FastLoudPhotography lol classic. "Our patriotic duty is to spend millions buying a flashy wanker boat and make a youtube video of it... to honor the vets". Don't forget to play the anthem while you take a dump.. to honor the vets. I'm sure they feel so honored. We got our limbs blown off but it was OK, because this guy painted his fancy boat up in our names. That makes it all better.
It's your DUTY to buy a speed boat. The country DEPENDS on it.
I'm not "triggered". I'm laughing at the lot of you. You're a bunch of pathetic rich old men waving a flag every time you do anything. Gotta do it.. for the troops.
@@milesbaker7499 Soooooo... I guess it's safe to assume you won't be subscribing to my channel or visiting the US any time soon? What a relief. Have fun down under, mate. Cheers!
Going fast in a boat terrifies me.....I am a chicken
Doing it for the
HEROES, that have done more than was asked. To let us

USA
🎉
Can you post without the music?
thats an expensive boat ride.
and the cost of the fuel was $25,000,230.
Lol. Actually, just under $5k
Also, ihr habt einen Rekord gebrochen, der aus 1988 ist, und das mit einem Hightech-Boot, das viel moderner ist? Glückwunsch?
Yes. Sorry, our Time Machine was broken that week. 🙄
Awesome Video 😎🚤💯
Thanks 💯
Thats true and they set a course record.
Great video, not sure how you claim it as “ world record “ when it’s a event held in USA but that’s America for ya. I’d say it’s more a event record or stage record hey
Doesn't matter where it's held, it's open to anyone in the world to try to break. that's the point. There ARE other counties that have people that hold "world records" even though they are done in that country, I guess us Americans are actually smart enough to realize that, unlike you. Let me guess, you're British or Australian?
Who’s kid is that?
Course record, yes and very well done. World record no. Using that logic every course record would be a world record.
Why put this background music when there's something this amaizng happening so annoying but hats off srill
Because you can’t hear anything from a helicopter 100 feet above the boat going 90 mph. If you love wind noise that much, just go stick your head out of your car window on the freeway.
Didn't look like a hard record to break tbh. Plenty of quicker more capable boats around than that.
You are I’ll informed.
BFD
I was impressed until the commentary said that they carried spare fuel for two other records. Not that demanding then when you have F1 cars racing down to the last line spoonful.
That's hardly "the open ocean," personally I wouldn't consider it even offshore if your in view of land 100% of the time. Fun never the less.
Then I guess it’s a good thing you weren’t one of the race officials. 👍🏼
Well it wasn't a lake, and they were not on land, so that means it was off shore then doesn't it?
Wow. Thats was anticlimactic.
what a waste of fuel
So says the car nerd???
that's the worst retort ive ever seen. glad you're in pain trauma husk lol @@512bb
Based on your lack of proper grammar skills I can see why you're so puzzled, my statement was quite concise.@@CarNerd
oh no look at your Stilted Speech! lol on triggered people do that. faaaaake lol.@@512bb
@@512bbnot sure which is funnier; your response or @CarNerd’s "retort" to your retort. Ole boy just don’t get it. Irony. One would think a nerd would be able to keep up.
I thought gas engines were illegal in California....
BAD AUDO MIX !!!~ WHY DIDN’T YOU LEAVE IT AS IS ??? ALL NATURAL SOUND ??? ENGINE, WIND , WATER AND OTHERS??? VERY AMATEURISH VIDEO EDITING ???? IT TURNED ME OFF !!!!
Let me guess… you’re an audio engineer. Well, thanks Spielberg. 🙄
Anything is easy with enough money. Remember this happened because of one thing. Lots of money. Can't do it without it. Money first then some skill. That boat is insanely expensive. Each 1350 engine and drive costs $182,600 new. So that's over $365,000 in cash they had to pay for those engines. Then depending on what year that boat is, those boats go for around $400k-$500k used so they probably spent close to a million dollars in CASH!!!! to make all of this happen. I'm not too impressed when millionairs do stuff. Lets see this happen with 3 guys who only make $70k a year each and that would truly be something.
So, three guys in a row boat?
Bidenomics keeps us from actually owning a engine.....lol
Mercury Racing probably gave them a discount for advertising.
@@davem3789 Oh I'm sure. Or maybe even gave them new engines and drives to use for the event then return after.
@@davem3789 Did you ever see the repower financing program through Mercury? The interest rates start at 11%. My buddy has a 780 credit score and perfect credit history and they gave him a rate of 18% for wanting to borrow $13k to repower his boat. Yeah no thanks lol.
Have you not heard of F1, or maybe even NASCAR, where they have insanely expensive engines that chomp fuel and go very fast…..
At present they have the DAKAR in Saudi Arabia blitzing sand dunes and setting records.
Record breaking COSTS MONEY. How much did it cost to out those first men on the moon and break those records.
It’s what the human spirit does, aided and abetted by cash. Don’t knock it if you personally haven’t go the cash…..
Once again the video creator chooses to ruin a motorsports video with utter crap and drowning music
And once again the creator has to remind you that you’re an idiot if you think you can hear anything but extremely loud buffeting wind noise doing 100 mph in a turbine powered helicopter 75 feet above the water with the windows open and rotors chopping overhead. There’s a reason we wear headphones in the chopper…. So all the loud noise doesn’t damage our hearing. If you want that kind of wind noise so desperately, go stick your head out the window on the freeway at 80mph. And I dare you to keep it there for a few hours. But whatever you do, I guarantee you that you won’t hear engine noise. Please do me a favor and unsubscribe.
@@FastLoudPhotography Oh so all of that footage was taken from the chopper? You telling me those close up shots were from the chopper..and if the chopper is so loud then why cant I hear it but I can hear the boat..allbeit drowned out by music?
no women....no pulling over to pee.
😂
I’m shocked California let them do this, look at all the pollution and fuel wasted for this stunt.
I’m shocked God allowed you to grace us with your presence on this earth. Look at all the food and oxygen and space you are wasting.
Get over yourself. California rules.
@@aaronjacks7217see you in Texas lol😂
Your so deluded it’s actually pretty funny
Anyone who talks good about California, please keep the hell out of Florida! Your very sick, brainwashed with liberalism.
So what. I’m NOT impressed. Get in a boat and jam the throttle for 8 hours ooooooooooooooo what a challenge, oh and all the shifting, and curves and oh, wait a minute…NOT.
… he said, in his best impression of Pee Wee Herman, while the other children laughed.
So what? Just another boat. Tomorrow someone will beat this record.
Took 35 years to beat this one, sooooo….. what ever makes you feel like a big shot, bud.
@@FastLoudPhotography Guess I hit a nerve, huh?
