That would cause a civil war if the siblings try to seize the power. Difficult situation indeed. Slight correction. It's believed that Kim Jong-un does have a son, though we know little else about him. Considering the daughter is only eight that means the logical male heir is definitely too young to inherit. This is relevant because North Korea adheres strictly to Confucian moral standards. This means that it would be incredibly difficult for a woman to have any direct position of power. The old guard would never accept it. That is unless, as you suggested, Kim Yo-jong were to do some political jostling and position herself as a sort of regent for her nephew. From what is known about her, she is perhaps the most devious political mind in North Korea. If any woman could fill the top spot, it's Kim Yo-jong. The only other option is chaos and a probable takeover from a Jang Song-thaek type.

That sister looks as evil and treacherous as any medieval monarch or Roman Emperor I bet it would take her about 2 weeks to "eliminate" any opposition.
North Korea is like a Medieval Kingdom in its early stage where the line of succession is not formally established and power transfer happens by last wills and who the kings court trusts the most. 3 Generations is not really long for a kingdom and I think Kim Jong-un dying young without clear successor will end in civil war. Many high-ranking people have much to gain and much to lose backing up different candidates inside or outside the Kim family, or even the nation. If a majority of key figures can not agree on a successor, figuring it out during a power transition might be a catastrophy. So many outside big players are interested in the future of North Korea, if they also can not commit to a single plan, this can be another eternal war.
Fun history fact: Kim Jong-un is descendant of Kim Kyong-son , who was a national hero of Goryeo dynasty that defeat Mongol's early invation. He succesfully defend his fortress so mongol just decide to ignore him and head straight to the capital.

In the "best case" scenario, it would pass onto Kim Yo-Jong or Jong-chul. Jong-Un is on good terms with his sister. However, if the old guard is persistent on no female leaders, then the next person in line would be Jong-Chul. Let's be honest, though, neither of them would make for saints in term of leadership.
I really want Han-Sol to be the next leader because he might actually be the only person who is open to ending this regime. If you watch videos of him, he's actually a pretty nice person and wants to open up North Korea. Of course, the government wouldn't be up for that and might get him assassinated.
either way, his chances of becoming the leader of korea is extremely slim. As the video mentions, if the country breaks down and there are no other members of the kim family, then kim han sol would likely become the supreme leader.
Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea they are not even talking about Democratically electing a leader?
Scott Clark Though the position of national leader isn’t democratic per say, most of their local governments and work councils are elected democratically.
As said earlier, countries with "democratic" in their name attempt to emphasize that they are, but they usually aren't democratic by any means. Another example is the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Ironically, its neighbour, Republic of the Congo, is more democratic than it.
Kim Jong-un is not dying, he had difficult surgery and everyone is weak short after this difficult surgery. Also there are few innacurities being told here: 1) Kim Kyong-hui is most likely dead for years (she might have died short after her husband who was executed) 2) Kim Jong-un has at least 3 children. The oldest son (born 2010), Ju-ae (who was introduced to Rodman) and another child (whose gender is unknown) was supposed to be born in 2015 3) Kim Jong-nam has except Han-sol at least one daughter and another son with different woman; Jong-chul has a child being born some years after his Eric Clapton visit 4) Kim Yo-jong is hardly an option. She does not have that strong authority and also she is a woman - high ranking soldiers in patriarch society wont ever follow a woman with lack of charisma and declare her "Goddess". so there are two possibilities: Kim Jong Un lives 10 and more years = his eldest son will succeed him; If he dies earlier = Kim Jong Chul will succeed him. Kim Jong Chul might not be viewed as incompetent, he just does not care about rulling. To be honest Kim Jong-il was also more interested in music and movies than rulling the country
Kim Yo-Jong has about as much authority and profile as her brother did before he became leader. She's the odds on favorite to succeed in an emergency, as the only member of the family aside from her brother wielding real power, and with a decently well established profile (internally and abroad). She appears to be the favorite of her brother, and therefore presumably the current designated successor if such an individual exists, and she already has de-facto control of State Media... meaning she has control of the narrative and can maneuver. Further still, she's issued statements and even a military order in her own name, and has attended military exercises alongside her brother. Her being a woman is the only thing that could throw a wrench in her rise, and I honestly don't think that will be an ultimate deal breaker.

That would cause a civil war if the siblings try to seize the power. Difficult situation indeed. I think in the case that the rest of the family is too incompetent to fight for the power then a military junta would rule the country and maybe, just maybe, that could lead to some kind of democratization. But China most certainly would not like that.

Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea they are not even talking about Democratically electing a leader?
Scott Clark Though the position of national leader isn’t democratic per say, most of their local governments and work councils are elected democratically.
Scott Clark usually countries with the word “democratic” in their name are not really democratic 😂😂
As said earlier, countries with "democratic" in their name attempt to emphasize that they are, but they usually aren't democratic by any means. Another example is the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Ironically, its neighbour, Republic of the Congo, is more democratic than it.
Or the GDR = German Democratic Republic
jst like the democratic party in US.
Kim Jong-un is not dying, he had difficult surgery and everyone is weak short after this difficult surgery. Also there are few innacurities being told here:
1) Kim Kyong-hui is most likely dead for years (she might have died short after her husband who was executed)
2) Kim Jong-un has at least 3 children. The oldest son (born 2010), Ju-ae (who was introduced to Rodman) and another child (whose gender is unknown) was supposed to be born in 2015
3) Kim Jong-nam has except Han-sol at least one daughter and another son with different woman; Jong-chul has a child being born some years after his Eric Clapton visit
4) Kim Yo-jong is hardly an option.
루시우 Kim kyung Hui is alive she was shown in a video in North Korean propaganda
@marcelo I agree with the first part but korean women usually dont take their husband surname
