- Maximizing Storage Space for Cardstock in Your Crafty Space.
In this video, I will share my method for saving valuable space when storing cardstock. While 12x12 plastic bags can also be used, investing in plastic envelopes like these will add stability and protection to your cardstock.

I have smaller envelopes the same style, for my stamps and dies that are mounted on magnetic sheet, and I’ve found the flap lid that tucks into a slot is just a fiddley PITA. I cut all those flaps off …everything still stays in the envelope just fine and these is no flap to fuss with anymore.
I was thinking the same thing, I’ll see if they become a PITA 😉
I have been storing my cardstock in the paper envelopes for a couple of years now in an IKEA shelf. Some of my envelopes are a bit fuller than yours so they fill up two cubes. I have used solid metal bookends available cheaply from K-mart in the middle of each cube to help them stand up straight. I used a label maker and have them in alphabetical order. Scraps go into the same bag as full sheets and the glitter papers each have their own envelope along with vellum etc and are stored in the next cube! CTMH make it easy for us to store our cardstock in a safe way! Just add a pack or two of envelopes every time you order and you will soon have enough!
That’s what I did I started last March and always look for them on special. It’s an investment for sure but I’m glad I did it.
What a beautiful rainbow of cardstock! I used a tab die to label my cardstock too and I love how easy it is to see the colours.
I really do need to see the colours, that’s how my brain works 😉
LOVE the change to the envelope and how you used the CS sampler so the name is already listed on there. They're soooo pretty all in your cube ❤
Thank you so much!😊
Love this idea
Thank you! 😊
Awesome!!❤
Thanks 🤗
I love that tab thin cut set. I believe I use it as much out of my crafts as I do in it.
It's so good! 😊
I just had a coffee catch up with a customer and have lent her the tabs dies so she can label and organise her cardstock exactly the same way after she watched your video. This is so good Julie - thank you so much for the inspiration.
It is easier to find and so far I’ve been really good and putting everything away but that is always subject to change 😂
@@JulieCarriere_TheScrapZone I have to put things away after each project I make. But then there are always the "rogue" things that never seem to find a home! 😘
Wow! It looks great.
Thank you 😊
What a difference it makes! ❤
Is sure does, thank you.
Great system! Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge ❤
You are so welcome
Beautiful 🤩
Thank you! Cheers!
This is perfect and beautiful!
I love the space I saved 😊
Wow! What a space saver and it looks so pretty!
Saving space is always a good thing 😉
I really like the idea of color tabs!! Thank you.
Glad you like them!
I love the colored tabs!
Thank you 😊
This looks amazing by the way!!!
Thank you 🙏🏻
What an awesome tutorial. I don’t have this type of shelving, but I think I can adapt this project to what I do have! TFS…😊
Perfect I hope you can. Being organized really helps in a crafty space. Best of luck.
Man, Julie! I have fought and fought the storage of 12x12. FINALLY! A way that works! I'm excited to get this working in my craft room. I tried the plastic bags, too, and that didn't work. You're right, they start warping a bit. So glad CTH has the sturdy sleeves to put them in and it saves space! Thank you, thank you! Love all your vids, Julie. Don't miss a one. I learn so much! xoxo Hugs.
I really hope this is long lasting. The envelope are nice and sturdy so I think the solution will finally work. Thanks for watching. I appreciate your comments.
This makes my left-brained self very happy to see. I have about 10-20 different manufacturers/color variations for colors, so this would be tough, but I do love the inspiration.
Glad I could help! You could bring all the same colors together and divide them by brand?
Great idea. I’ll have to review my space and see what I can do! I can also see you putting those on their sides, tabs up, in a bin for traveling to a retreat, if you want to take all colors of cardstock!
For sure, they are nice and sturdy.
Great video! Sorting by color like this is really working for me. I was using hanging files before and this is so much better for the way I approach making.
Great to hear! I love the space I saved. 😊
I 🩷this, so pretty! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
Thank you! Cheers!
Very well done.
Thank you kindly!
Very nice! Looks great, so easy to find the right color. Bonus - an empty shelf! 😄
It really is! Now to the specialty papers 😊
I have the Kalax shelf divider and love it for organizing my paper cutters, scoring boards and items that don’t stand up well but I need within easy reach. Love how organized you are ❤
Thanks for sharing! I did try that with my trimmer but I’m not so good at putting them back.
Love the look. I will try this for 8-1/2 x 11
I still keeping up with this system it’s a good one.
It looks awesome Julie and what a nice bonus to have freed up space! I love your addition of the tabs. It’s so tidy 😃
Thank you for the inspiration, I’m not sure if the CS tab will last but for now it’s pretty. 😉
Wow!! how good does that look!! I have stacks of old cardstock in my spare room that is bending over the years it has accumulated. I did buy a stacking system but like you found, it isn't always really the answer. What I like most of all is how pretty it all looks now it is finished. So I think this is on my wish list!! I don't have that tab but CM now have a tab making machine that I am planning to buy so it will be put to good use. Last year they introduced a tag making machine which I use all the time.
Tags are available from lots of brands. I just try to use what I have. I hope this system is the final system but like most things in a craft room you always see better options. 😉
That is quite the project….you have more patience than I do. Love the look, nice and neat!
It helps when you are doing a video. Kinda need to follow through 😉
@@JulieCarriere_TheScrapZone how many days / hours did this take.
@@kaymcclurg9881 It took about a day, I did it in two seatings, so two afternoon of about 3 hrs each
@@JulieCarriere_TheScrapZone well you did an awesome job! Very inspiring!
Wow I really love the look of your storage envelopes. I have a ton of card stock and one of my goals this year is to pear it down to just the ones I actually will use. I received a lot from a friend who stopped scraping.
That's a great idea! Cardstock can be heard to manage I hope this is a good long term solution. 😉
I’ve been collecting these envelopes for awhile now. I have purchased extra stickers for updating our re-inkers, thinking I’d cut them down, saving the name. I’m so happy I got the tabs thin cuts before they sold out. You have me thinking for sure. Thank you for this detailed information. I really love your channel.
I did that too last year but since this labels will not be available with the new colors, the sampler is the way to good or just print them. I really like seeing the CS. I'm now working on my specialty papers :)
I absolutely love using this system but I store mine in hanging files (just a personal preference, no curling of paper) and is on a rolling cart by good ole Cropper Hopper!.
I had a rolled cart too but my cardstock was getting damaged so I hope this will be better 😊
Love how your project turned out. I keep all my paper in envelopes to keep them protected and keep all scraps in the envelope. I find that I do use my scrapes that way.
Thank you so much! I do hope that I'll use my scraps more and I do feel these will protect my CS more.
I love this, but I have so many different brands that I’m not sure this would be practical for me. You have inspired me, though, to go through my card stock and get it organized.
A little inspiration is all good. Thank you for watching. ☺️
I’ve tried several things but the best I’ve discovered is a simple old fashioned filing cabinet. Easy, functional and cheap.
Great tip! I have a similar system for my retired cardstock. I just like have my current one at eye level.
@@JulieCarriere_TheScrapZone that’s the downside to filing cabinets.
I love the way this looks but I feel like I have such a mix of plain cardstock from multiple places that I don't even know where I would start.
I’d got by color for sure and you can add multiple brands in one envelope 😉
i store my 12x12" flat in IKEA's map drawers, each drawer of which holds 2x12x12 with space left over for a stack of A4 papers. Other drawers in the 5 drawer units hold block stamps, inks, papers for painting & recycled microwaveable plastic cartons which hold die cuts made from recycling old greeting card. A drawer holds these 2 deep, & about 6 across, with 2 layers. Larger die cuts go in recycled 1kg hummus plastic containers, & those fit to the brim of the drawer, again, 2 deep.
That sounds like a very good system. 😊
Oh I’ll need to check out the Ikea map drawer that sounds like a great solution too. Thank you for sharing.
It’s very nice and neat but I cannot afford all those envelopes. Thanks for sharing.
I understand, it took me over a year to purchase these envelopes, I do find that the are worth the investment.
Love the envelopes! How do you store your paper collections?
I keep them in their original bags and they are sorting by theme and stored in old cropper hopper.
Very pretty for sure. Now to find a budget-friendly way to duplicate this, because no way could I afford the envelopes. I can barely afford card-stock...it's hard to be poor! Blessings.
I started with just the plastic bags, you can add labels and you’d be good to go.
Love it. What is the expedite?
It's the old name for the Kallax, I was just dating myself :)
thank you for sharing. this is lovely! now for the pattern paper... how does a gal organize that?
I have them on my shelves by theme. I usually keep them all in their original collections.
Looks great...how/where do you store your older Retired papers?
They are in a crate underneath my desk.
I used this method a couple years ago. I didn’t think to label the outside like you did. But the envelopes were slippery and slid down. Drove me crazy. Plus I’m a horder when it comes to paper. I could only get 2 packs in an envelope. I wanted to get it all in there. My goal was to get it put where it needed to go. I eventually went to Kallax shelving and purchased their cabinets. I got the paper shelve holders from stamp n storage. They have 12 or 15 shelves whichever you purchase. I absolutely love them. They hold probably 3 packs of card stock. The shelves you had in your video are great to hold the paper packs like Party time. Holds however many you want to put in there. Might be able to put 2 collections in there. I fold paper to be my biggest stress builder but this has taken some of my worries away. I’m not rich I sold a bunch of collections I wasn’t going to use and stamps to get my shelves and inserts. It was an enormous project. It took me all summer long to get my room in order. It’s still not there. But it’s functional till I get the energy to work on it some more.
I’ve tried many things to stay organized. This one seems to be a good for cardstock. As of now these envelopes are not slipping but they do fit snug in that one cube.
Use a solid metal bookend in the middle of the cube to help your envelopes stand up straight!
This is great it looks so pretty. I have a question about when you get new color paper pack how will you fit in in so your not redoing your shelf? Do you just start a new shelf? I'm just curious because I'm always buying new packs of paper when they come out. Thanks for sharing its stunning❤
Good question! I usually rotate out the retired colors in another location. I’ll most little add them in where they fit in between the right colors like a did with some of the losers colors this time around.
There’s no size problem with Michael’s Simply Tidy cube system which is also a perfect size for CTMH albums. They are slightly larger than other cubes. 16:08
We all have our unique way to store own cardstock, thank you for sharing yours.
I bought the stamp + storage paper tower and I love it. Unfortunately it was a bit high in cost.
That is a good one for sure 👍
That is a really good system.
wonderful and beautiful...however I can't find these envelopes anywhere.... not even in the link attached. Any Advice?
Unfortunately, CTMH are closing their doors, I found these ones here: www.amazon.ca/Anvin-Scrapbook-Waterproof-Individual-Separating/dp/B0C6WZSQTR/ref=sr_1_7?crid=2Y3DGM8L8ACHJ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.5Wu6owDv9yD0B_uC-JxzH_DQY1ullPABhKUKLfgNoyMMBLX9JDUAHdqkUWKWaLdXxz9xa7d2psYhO2rAOFIObJ5YPOXYNv7TzpI-gRDn-kxsDSyTB9n6J8N97FOEvj1XmtV0CiBK97tTS_x9mwWujGVz7JR8qdFUUI2ujNowBUHxqdXdQfr9q30UDAo8168f-0UJRDfPFiKb6L5_sEtTjo71S8JHmKPBysc1JOPvZre5d5S6Mybwyw9HHad9H-LWWHtQPzEe48K28n7ZVLq-4i-JzfDfFv4vDGwQq9YkCc8.R3oDmThNZNjz_rRGwRPhnI2FxXFSWFU9CxjB46Ihuyg&dib_tag=se&keywords=12x12+paper+storage+sleeves&qid=1714802518&sprefix=12x12+paper+sl%2Caps%2C183&sr=8-7. They might be ok.
Where can I find the red line tape you used to attach to the plastic?
You can find it on Amazon :)

Great ideas!! How do you store your retired cardstock? I don’t buy the full packs of cardstock anymore, but I sure have lots of the retired since I used to purchase it in bulk
I’m currently working on my speciality papers and retired cardstock. The video should be up next week.
@@JulieCarriere_TheScrapZone nice!!
Can you tell me where I can find the templates? Thank you I love your organization skills. Just wonderful
The template for the labels? I just created one using Canva.
Very impressive! How much time did it take to reorganize?
two afternoons, 3+ hours each but it's worth it.
Started on mine yesterday and was very happy at the decluttering. Made cards today and cleaned up right away!
Can you flip those dividers horizontal? Then take out of envelopes.
I had them horizontally before, I found that the envelopes do protect the CS.
Can you share how you sent a file to your printer to print the name?
You can use PicMonkey or Canas select a 4x6 template. Add the name at the bottom, it’s easier to line up the die cut. HTH
I use the same system at you but recycle the plastic bags that our paper collections come in.
I recycle too, these are great bags for so many things.
I save all of the bags our collections come in. They are great around the house too. And for other crafts you may do.
Where can I find the tab die?
The tab I used is retired, it’s about 2 inches long. Hopefully you can find one similar 😊
QUESTION, JULIE, A N D OTHERS … I hesitate to put my scraps in with full sheets as I’m concerned that if there’s much pressure applied to MY storage sleeves, that an IMPRINT could be made on the full sheet. (To help limit my stash - NO Craft Room!! - I use We R scrap book sleeves in a couple of scrapbooks.). Has anyone experienced the “imprint issue”??
I have not experienced this but I wouldn’t recommend over stuffing the envelopes regardless
What do you mean by dye? The color of the card stock?🧐 where do you get different colored card stock and do they have orange purple black army green and brown color?🫨
This was the CTMH cardstock it’s a dyed so they do 100% full colour on one side and 50% on the other. Look for it in the near future at Stampin Up!
where is the tab die from
it was from Close to My Heart but sadly t is now retired
It looks fabulous but I'm too lazy.
You definitely need to be in the mood to organize but I think I'll be saving time in the long run.
I think that’s too expensive. I keep my card stock in a 12x12 box. You don’t need to have all those chip colors. Go to your local home improvement store and store and grab paint chips that are close in color to your card stock. The paint swatches are free.
This system is not for everyone. I had 12x12 bags for years. After crafting for over 20 this was an investment I wanted to make. It took me 10 months to purchase these, it was a good way to do without breaking the bank 😉
Clever idea re: the PAINT SWATCHES! May I inquire as to what 12” x 12” BOX you found to fit the bill?
@@JulieCarriere_TheScrapZoneI’m pleased for you, Julie, that you found a solution that “sparks joy”. Carol had a point that this is probably not for every crafter’s budget, but oft times, just seeing WHATEVER’s “out there” can spark an ingenious idea. Thx for sharing!
This is super fiddly! I think I wouldn’t be going near my craft room for a bit- scared of messing anything up!
I love this idea. I don’t know if I have enough of the CTMH ones. I started getting them when I watched your speciality paper video. I purchased a huge unit from a craft that was going out of business. It holds about 20 to 30 paper stacks on each side. I keep my current close to my heart card stock in those. But I have tons of retired card stock and I would like to put the colors all together. Thanks again for sharing.
