- An animated true story about the Shaheedi (martyrdom) of Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji Maharaj (The 5th Guru of The Sikhs).
Around 1606, Guru Arjan Dev Ji was asked to accept a marriage between Their son (Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji) and the daughter of Chandu, who was a minster for the mughal Emperor, Jahangir. On refusal, Chandu grew furious and plotted his revenge.

When I went to Anandpur Sahib many years ago, some of the amritdhari's there were telling me so many stories about Dhan Shri Guru Arjan Dev Ji's shaheedi. I was amazed to know that there was a Vatican jesuit chronicling this and was a witness to all of it, and even how paatshah himself was doing Ardas for the person who was pouring hot sand over his dastar - as he was being forced to do it, but he knew Guru Arjan Dev Ji was the enlightened one. I tell my English friends of these stories of the shaheed and sacrifices of our guru's and they're shocked

I do not understand why this version has cut out the fact tha Emperor Jahangir forced our Great Guru to convert to Islam and that our Guru refused and thus the torture began . Under the orders of emperor Jahangir Himself not Chandu.

Although there are some historical facts missing, like the ordering of torture to our Guru by the emperor himself and the forcing of conversion to Islam was a factor in the torture . As the emporer feared the Great Gurus preching and influence over the people.

Jahangir, the 4th ruler, for strong action against Guru Arjan Dev. Jahangir wrote in his autobiography titled ‘Jahangirnama’, “The Hindus going to this Guru is understandable but even the stupid Muslims are going to him. I think I will ask him to either change his ways or accept Islam.”
Guru Arjan Dev was arrested in June 1606 on flimsy charges and as an alternative to being let-off, conversion to Islam was offered. But he stood his ground and was tortured in Lahore, now in Pakistan. When extreme torture did not break him, it was decided to wrap him up in a freshly skinned cowhide and throw him out in the hot June sun: The fresh hide would shrink and squeeze him into submission. Guru Arjan Dev asked for a last wish to be fulfilled, before certain death: He wanted to wash off his bloodied body. His tormentors found it very amusing and permitted him to enter Ravi River for a bath which runs west of the city. He went into Ravi River and never came out. Gurdwara Dehra Sahib, Lahore stands on the site of his martyrdom.

I understand the difficult process in making it more palatable for different people / religeons around the world. But isnt altering the history equivalent to altering Guru Bani to making it sound palatable to others ?
This is good representation of history but a little incomplete. Please read sardar Mahinder singh "Josh" you will know the real reason behind Guru's martyrdom was Jahangir and goons who only wanted a single religion to be preached all over India. This was not Chandu's proposal was the only reason!

He is called as "Shaheedaan de Sartaj" because he gave us the lesson of shaheedi and he only brought the concept of shaheedi in sikhi.

This story is incorrect, there are some truths to it but the rest are not backed up by the facts. Guru Arjun ji, was persecuted due to his growing authority in the region. Jaghir was also responsible for this death. The Guru also refused to convert and also change the scriptures when forced by the Moghuls .
i would urge everyone to please correct the name of Guru sahibs. Guru Arjun Dev, Guru Hari Govind etc. Their names were Sanatani names which have genesis from Sanskrit. Sikh meaning a pupil and Guru meaning the one who imparts the wisdom. That is how Sikhism came into existence.

what nonsense ! these are Punjabi names ... no need to Hindify them. Its Arjan not Arjun and its Gobind not Govind. It's not hindi remember. Why would we distort perfect Punjabi words. Also, Sanskrit was never spoken by the common folk in India, so no need to Sanskratize either.
India used various version of Pali and in Pali many Sanskrit sounds are absent e.g. shh is absent and originally its sa... That is why we say Desi boys not DeSHI boys. Different Pali Prakrits have different pronunciations. Hindi/Urdu is just one of them !

You know that the meaning of Govind, which due to Punjabi accent become Gobind, do you know the meaning of Arjun which due to Punjabi accent then becomes Arjan.
Do not attempt to teach me Pali or be an expert of Pali language which you are certainly not. Since you belong to that category which attempts to distinguish itself away from the original history so you are using an excuse that it is because of Pali. @@globalcitizen6340 Ohh Global bai !! The fact is that Sanskrit is nearly absent in Archeology ,manuscripts and also in spoken form today. It only indicates that only a tiny minority of used it. A specific closed group only who came from Central Asia(Indo-Europeans).
It was their language, Pali on the other hand is indigenous and has rock inscriptions going back 250 BCE. Proto-Punjabi is tonal language and is similar to Pali and it predates later mixes like Sanskrit and Persian.
A word once part of Punjabi(e.g. Panj not Panch) will be spoked as such. Morons like you will say turn Panjaab to Panch Jal. To you folks I say no thanks !! Take your Panch Jal and off you go.
