Choosing moves and styles that work for your athletic build is so important. I love pull up midrange/floater shots but I'm short, so I learned the hard way that I can't just do a kd hesi pull up every shot

i think u can still do those things, you just have to figure out tactics to make it work. u might not be able to rise up over ppl like KD, but you can learn things like creating more space, developing a faster shot, or shooting from further out to counteract that

i usually watch attention to detail to see how i could guard people but i sometimes pick something up to add to my game. attention to detail mostly helps me as a defense minded player to know all situations and act accordingly to try and force the lowest percentage shot.

I took the Lebron Route kinda, I worked on all facets of the game that I could so that when I’m on the court no matter where I am & who I play with I’m useful & I find it fun as well but most of all I seem to be picked first in just about every pick up game because I don’t play with ego & I’m not necessarily ball dominant but can be when it calls for it ,I seem to end up scoring more points than everyone at times but I think that comes with experience too but everyone is different. I looked at myself as a student of the game & never regretted it.

I love to emulate CJ McCollum. Shifty mid range pull ups. Decent athleticism, but move and countermove chess. I can handle the ball, drive left or right. My biggest weakness has to be my lack of a floater. It comes and goes but it’s right hand only.

Start emulating some of Kyle Lowry and Chris Paul's playing styles instead, unless you hit a growth spurt soon. Booker is a volume scoring shooting guard who is 5 to 6 inches taller than you. For now you should focus on defense and being a floor general. If you do hit a growth spurt, great, you'll still have solid fundamentals training as a true point guard. If you don't get a growth spurt then you'll be stuck as an undersized shooting guard

We got a new coach and suddenly Im playing center. Keep in mind that I never really got much actual gametime when playing guard so I could never really show anything. It was hard for me to become an inside player when all I knew was playing outside. I realized I am most likely a pass-first teammate but can get a bucket if needed.

    Amazing video!!
I can't find one player I'm exactly like. Trae young and CP3 are close. Small players who're quick but aren't that strong / don't jump crazy high. I'm at my best attacking of the dribble, and using a lot of step back mid range shots / floaters rather than taking it all the way. While I can make the right pass, I don't have the basketball IQ of CP3, nor can I hit logo shots like Trae. So I also learn from others.. streetballers like the professor for playing through pressure defense, Steph Curry for playing off ball, and Marcus smart for defense. And any other move that I like pretty much.

I’m 5’6” with a decent handle, great passing vision/IQ, great midrange game, above average, but streaky 3PT shooter, and a great off-ball/team defender, and usually a great on-ball defender against most players.
My play style is corner/wing 3s off the catch, dribble pull ups, fades, turn around jumpers, bank shots, drive & kicks, setting up the offense through Pick & Roll, iso midrange, off-ball center cuts, constant boxouts, hands always active on and off the ball, post defense, being an off-ball pest, and especially attacking out of the Triple Threat etc.
Still tons of room to grow, like I’d love to be a confident finisher-
    The players I’ve always studied:
    - Chris Paul
    - Jrue Holiday

Personally I'm not that fast and athletic, but I thrive off of difficult midrange shots and being shifty/unpredictable. Very typical of 2000s ball, even though I grew up in the 2010s generation.

I noticed something i'm pretty good at is backing down a defender, doing a handoff, then immediately curl to the wing for a 3 for some effing reason. I also noticed i need to take atleast one one dribble to be more effective shooting anything beyond 20ft. If I have a speed advantage to my defender I just attack right and drive for a lay up, fingeroll or floater. If they are laterally a lot quicker then I attack left since they are positioned defensively to stop my dominant side, and go for a mid range pull up, floater, or one legged banker. Also am decent at going baseline and beating a defender for a reverse. I tend to struggle to make plays for others after taking 5 or more dribbles(internal panic), and passes out of double teams that happen in the corner. I do a pretty good job finding people who are in the motion for an effective cut or curl. Usually not the primary ball handler in 5 on 5s, but I set good screens, roll effectively and can either pull up from mid range or find someone who is open in the corner as the defense collapses.

For myself. I'm 5'9, wide torso, muscular, short arms, but long legs, I'm basically the tasmanian devil from Looney tunes. I spent so much time learning fundamentals that I didn't learn my gifts. My fundamentals are pretty good. But I always had a hard time being picked to play because guys on the court would always whisper, "nah..Chill. Not him. He doesn't know how to use his body." That shit was/is frustrating as hell. Because what does that mean? So it's been a journey for me to understand that, and I've come a long way since but still have so much more to learn. I love Carmelo and Hakeem the dreams game. So strength and footwork I loved. Any pointers would help. The saga continues....

This is great, but there are probably skills that you need regardless of play style today. For example, if you can't catch and shoot (or jump hook for post players) or make free throws at an effective rate, you probably can't play. On defense, there's probably a certain amount of athleticism and strength needed to play as well.

Im bad at shooting but better in layups I don’t really struggle driving but when going for a layup with my left I struggle with it. I really love shooting so I’m practicing to be a better shooter. The best way I can score is layups I like layups but not as much as shooting. I also struggle with dribbling with my left.

I am literally probably one of the least athletic people you would ever meet, but i like to play basketball with my friends. None of us really know what were doing but some are actually pretty good. I just want to know if theres anything simple i could learn like a move or a strategy that will just make me more useful for the team. Im about to be in my sophomore year, im 5’8 and skinny( idk how to explain it but im more “solid than other skinny guys, idk what that means but my friends be saying that to me. We literally are not that good at all, none of us can really play d without fouling and two of us can dribble well consistently. Im average height in my friend group so i just wait in the paint while someone passes it to me and hit point blank shots. Idk if anything i said helped describe my situation but i just want to know how to be of use when we play( particularly something unique but that doesnt matter much because we are all terrible and a spin move could be called unique 💀)

Just today in a 4on4, I balled out went downhill on anyone and got any shot I wanted, but when we did 5on5, it went all gone and I was scared to drive.

Coleman, at what age should athletes start looking at play style ? My son is 14 and has been boxed in to play "center" due to his height he is now 6'1 and I am trying to develop his guard skills but I still have no idea what play style he might be. I was curious if this is something you look at when you are 16/17 or even earlier ?

im 14 and i kinda already know my playstyle offensively and defensively. i play wit people older than me too. in my age group(under 15s rn) im a pf/c. when playing with older people, im a SG. please lmk any counters to my playstyle as it would be so helpful. TL;DR is at the bottom. press read more.
So basically, offensively im a slasher. im very explosive off my hezis and im very good at dribbling. im a prtty creative mind and i tend to combo till i find an opening for a drive or bait for a shot. im good at avoiding hands and am getting very good at using underhand lays. shot wise, i aint nun special, but me and that mid range shot got something special. definitely my hotspot, just below the paint at least. i can pass the ball pretty well and im solid at the pick and roll. learning tho. off ball im very slithery and know how to get space. pretty ass at the 3 tho. but i do have my moments, and im not that inconsistent. will make a few open 3s if necessary
defensively, im an anti big man unit. i know how to hastle and how to stay with my defender. not the steal type, but more the block type. prtty lanky and am able to block those taller than me, although inconistent. im a good contest and a solid defender.
I know what i want to be. i want to be unstoppable. i want to be able to be consistent at the middy, even contested, and i want to be great at avoiding hands on lays, but getting physical too as a last resort. i wanna be able to stop anyone no matter the size. thanks for reading random, now u know my moveset, even tho we prolly wont meet.
TL;DR middys, lays, slithery finisher, solid defender, anti big man defender, blocks more preferred than steals, solid passing.

Okay, so I'm 7'1. I play solid defense, set up screens, and I feel very comfortable at finishing close to the rim. The problem I have is getting close to the rim, since I'm tall with long arms, but I'm not really that strong and other centers/power forwards are just stronger than me. But I like to use my arms to dribble a lot, doing half-spins, dribble behind the back, stuff like that, and it works kinda decent, but because of that my teammates don't want to pass to me much. They think that I need to pass more to them, and don't get me wrong when I can't go close to the rim I'm passing, but what's wrong with a center scoring some points by himself? Points are points, they are good for the whole team.

You were blessed by god with insane height, use it to your advantage and become the overall package as a tall center. Make sure to gain some weight and workout to gain muscle because I feel like you're going to get injured a lot at that height. Sadly I'm 5.9 or 5.10. So i have to be a good shooter, dribbler, finisher and I also need to have good athleticism.

Hey hooper community, I'm looking for tips, recently went from being the tallest kid on the team and playing center in U15, to trying to expand into either small or power forward. I'm not the buffiest kid, but I can shoot mid range, but also play off the rebound. Any tips? I am also a really good team player and have an eye for setting up team mates who cut off of picks or after passes etc, really trying to decide between power and small forward. Also, what kind of things should I be focussing on and any drill ideas for dribbling as someone whose style is to shoot off of passes or play with momentum. I have a tuff time creating the momentum... any tips?

as a casual hooper who wants to improve while just like playing pickup I feel like it's hard to find a player with a similar frame bc I'm 6'2 and scrawny but most the people I've played with at like park pickup runs aren't elite hooper heights so at times I'm the tallest guy on the court at 6'2 so I feel like I'd be wasting it to lean full guard but if I play like a forward and start playing bigger hoopers then I'm gonna be way undersized. should I view NBA heights/frames in a vacuum or do I take it in context and look for someone comparable to where I stand among normal people frame wise
