    You missed Chris Bloore, the Labour MP for Redditch. He's a returning expat. He ran the Ontario tourist board through Covid and is widely credited with saving that sector from collapse. He is 41, bright and very able. If I were recommending his skills I would suggest the whips office. His people management skills are really good.

    What about working class MPs? Only 8 Labour MP’s this Parliament were from blue collar backgrounds… I don’t discredit those new MP’s with degrees, PHDs or fancy roles in think tanks, I just think there not very representative of the wider population. You could argue the reason reform did so well is because ordinary people didn’t see people like themselves on the ballot paper!

      Nigel Farage was privately educated, and the son of a stockbroker. Richard Tice is the son of a philanthropist. I get what you mean, but a lot of the key players in Reform are just cosplaying at being working class.

      @@jpc2470Ben did not state otherwise. It is still the reason Reform got elected because Farage is hypocritical and tries to present as an ordinary person (he also believes in Brexit so much he wants his children to have German passports). However well he does, it still makes him look more grounded than most.

    Polls can’t be wrong. Polls show what the electorate is thinking during the polling period. They aren’t intended to be predictive. There’s clearly a lot of people who wanted a Labour government but tactical voting may have caused them to not vote Labour in their constituency. And again, the parties in the left got the majority of the vote, just like the polls had shown consistently.

    Banning polling is equivalent to banning knowledge, it's a ridiculous notion.
    Polling is part of the structure that allows the citizen to decide how effective their vote will be, without a poll the voter may not vote how they really want to vote, because they might assume their vote won't have an effect, and go with the safe but an undesirable option.
    A poll allows a voter, to make an educated judgement, not just on the performance of the parties involved, but also how effect her/his vote will be in achieving a desirable outcome.

      any suggestion to ban polling is a ridiculous band-aid to the problems of a) the voting system and FPTP and b) the media and their choice to prioritise horse race politics over the substance of policy.

    • @Red1Green2Blue3
      @Red1Green2Blue3 Місяць тому +1

      No, she's right. The Heisenberg uncertainty principle means that as you measure one feature (position) the measurement of another (velocity) becomes less precise. Schrödingers cat means once you observe something (poll results) the state changes (election outcome). The argument is that seeing polling influences voter behaviour; i.e. once you've measured "it", "it" has now changed.

    • @billfear8824
      @billfear8824 Місяць тому

      I think both would apply in this instance. The point being made is that the act of measuring anything changes that which is being measured. In this case the suggestion is that by polls measuring people's intentions (and publicising them), they changed people's intentions, which appears to be accurate. It is also true to say that this particular metric was impossible to track with absolute accuracy, not least because polls take time to compile, and in that time frame circumstances have undoubtedly changed. So both apply.
      I would also make the point that polls in general, although a good indicator, will never be able to truly predict the actual vote of the "undecided" voter, which could easily make up for the gap in vote share predicted vs actual.
      I've always found it fascinating, have a nice day!
