Fun Fact: The F-35’s single Pratt and Whitney F-135 engine produces more thrust at all regimes of flight than the F-18’s two GE F-404 engines! The engine is one of the most impressive technological leaps found in an airplane that is comprised of pretty much nothing BUT impressive technological leaps!
What is strange to me, is that despite all the cool tech in this aircraft, the F35 and F22 cannot communicate with one another. They need a third-party aircraft! Neat stuff!!

I know the shuttle can form shock / Mach diamonds in its RS-25 engine exhaust (and thus SLS) but never knew a fighter jet did too. Cool knowledge. Thanks
While super sonic flow is needed in order to create shock diamond’s it’s not the whole story. You also need the exhaust to be at a lower pressure than ambient air.
It was just the pilot gettin off for some reason. Every time ive seen them in air shows theyre full afterburners the whole time unless theyre doing a maneuver without it.
