I’m looking at getting this lens for my Canon 90 D and I’m also picking up the 100 to 400 USM Mark two (had one but broke it) I’m going to be pairing that all with the canon C100 Mark two. Aishu weddings to make money and Wildlife documentaries for fun.
Thanks for making this - I am looking at getting this lens used for my R8 for indoor sports photography. I can't bring myself to buy the RF version for 3x the cost!
Bought mine in around 2011, when it came out. Used it on many sport occasions with 60D, it was always awesome and pleasure to use. I will never sell it.
I love your blog men since day 1 thank you for sharing more tips and knowledge about camera and lenses , you are my inspiration about photography , and it's amazing, I'm Canon user too I wish I could have like canon zoom lens, 70-200mm watching from Philippines
Thanks, I'm debating between getting this one or RF one, and I feel like this will be the way to go. Extending lens like the RF version is a bit problematic for the type of shooting I do (it could work for wildlife which I also do, but snowy dog sled races and sandy tracks of greyhound races would probably bust that quite quickly)
If price is a factor at all, I would defiantly go with this lens. There are rumors of a new RF 70-200 on the horizon that does not extend. Some are saying it could be later this year but it could also be next year.
I’ve own that lens for about 6 years now and I’m about to upgrade from an 80D to an R10 and wanted to hear some opinions about this combo (Ef to RF mirrorless) Thank you for your review!!
I got this lens for $1999 back then. It was $2499 lens. I love the internal zoom. I still got this lens and no plan to get rid of it. I don't mind the weight and size at all.
I'm still using 70-200 f/4 IS from 2006 and it's still great, but sometimes autofocus is a bit slow. I'm thinking about buying f/2.8 IS III unfortunately it's too expensive for me atm.
I have this lens and find it handy, however I'm not super impressed with the IQ of my copy. Generally, I'll use a prime, particularly for action shots 📸
I bought this lens trying to get into sports photography, I have my first game next week. I have it attached to the canon m50 mII, you think thats good enough? was planning to save up and get a 1dx but the first one, i can get that around like 700, but I dont know where I should go with it, because I think I def need a DSLR attached with this lens because sports photography is what I want to focus on. Also good video, gotta new sub, never know when I would need to shoot a wedding day haha!
The m50 is a decent camera. But for most sports id personally want something a little more robust. What sports are you planning to shoot and how far from the action will you be?
@@jaylphoto Pretty much any game I can get my hands on, focusing on basketball, volleyball, and baseball at the moment, but eventually/hopefully football in future
It’s a good thing you didn’t spend the money to upgrade from the IS ii to the IS iii, because the only difference is that Canon changed the shade of white they paint the lens. Optically the ii and the iii are identical.
@@BruceLeroyUK no Canon agrees actually - they called the III a "refresh", the first time to my memory, and it has the same exact optical diagram. What has been changed, aside paint, is coatings on some of the elements which just makes them easier to clean and the lens more resistant to flare. At least Canon kept the price identical lol
The quality of the lens is why a 15 yo lens still costs more than 1k euros on ebay... But to me, which uses R5, is just perfect spending the right amount of money to have such a lens! The RF version is just to expensive, just like the Mark 3. And the Mark 1 isn't that good tbh
Its an absolute must! AFTER you have your prime set in place. All zoom lenses are soft at every focal length including the new RF version. This is a great sports photography lens but not ideal for portrait work.
Thanks for sharing I'm thinking about buying this lens. You made my choice easier.
You'll definitely love it. Even with the new RF 70-200 just announced. I'm still sticking with this lens
Dreaming with one... It's on my bucket list for one day
For years now I use the non-IS version of this lens. It's really great and gives so good images!
Thanks Jay. Strongly considering one.

Awesome. You're gonna love it. It's a great lens.
Buying one this week! Can’t wait!

Don’t do it! 🤣🤣 it’s to prone to getting dust and other nasties inside the barrel. 🤦🏾♂️
picked up 1 yesterday ... Fabulous lens
You're going to love it.

Yea I have this lens for my 90d but now have a a7r 5 with an adapter. Flawless! Never broke it thank the heavens lol.
Thanks for this amazing video. I LUUV These lens. Im planning to buy a new one

I love it 💪. Keep up the hard work and practice to save up the 💰 and I'm sure you'll be able to have it one day too! Thanks for the support!
Its still brilliant and matches any newer lens. The end.

Watching and considering.
Bought it!

What camera body are you using with it?
Have you checked out the used market?
Love my mkii it’s a beast!!! Using it for soccer and it will take a lot….of money…….😅 to get me to switch to RF version of the 70-200
I was just looking at getting this second hand!
Hope this helped!
Also considering on my Canon R8!
Aaannnddd I just bought it!! :)
I was just looking at it to upgrade my f4 non USM…
If you need the extra stop and the faster focusing it's definitely worth it.
@@jaylphoto probably don’t need, just want…🫢
This lens is GOAT'd
🐐
I have this and it’s so heavy!! I use it with my dslr & I even bought it new so I wish I used it more😭
It's great glass. And be happy to know if you switch to mirrorless, it will work even better
So I shouldn’t bother switching to an L-mount native lens for my Lumix cameras?
I have this lens and find it handy, however I'm not super impressed with the IQ of my copy. Generally, I'll use a prime, particularly for action shots 📸
I have heard there are some bad copies of it. You could always send it to canon to have it calibrated.
I looking to buy this lens, should I rent it first?
Awesome video btw! 🔥

is there a problem if i use it on my Canon R10 (CROP)?
No. It will still work great for you but the effective zoom range becomes 112-320
@ Wow! Thank you!!! 😍

I'm 10,000% certain Canon would disagree with that statement 😂😂💵💵💵

It's like a secret hidden gem. You'll probably start seeing more on the used market as people switch to the new RF 70-200

You didnt make this video for no reason but nobody carries the mark ii version. So im considering a tamron g2 version
You might be able to find it second hand on the used market but most people I know with it aren't giving it up because they like it so much.
The 70 200 f2.8 i is even shaper than the human eye. I made super sharp fotos with even a 8mp camera and this lens.
👀 gotta love some L glass
Lenses especially well built lenses will give decades of life. Do you change girlfriends every time pretty girl smiles at you?
So true. I do. But don't tell my wife 🫢
