I remember when I first had my mom get this for me years ago when the Greatest Hits version was out, I had the same complaints. Gave up for a year because I didn't understand the crafting and thought it was too hard. Oddly, once I started it back up again, things suddenly clicked. It was still challenging, but mainly as far as combat went which was a good thing. Second playthrough you might miss that difficulty because you can breeze through the game. It was kind of the same situation with my brother playing FFVIII back then. If he understood not to exploit the game by understanding the Junction System, it was confusing why it was a common complaint other than the system allowing it to be exploitable.
I'd also say the combat system had similarities with Parasite Eve given the dome grid allowing enemy targeting. That would seem to later become what was used in FFXII, Basch even having the same stance using magick as Ashley. I wish Matsuno had the chance to finish this branch of Ivalice's tales.
The composer for Vagrant Story is Hitoshi Sakimoto, same composer for FF Tactics and FFXII and some other games. VS was more somber and dark to fit the tone of the game yet still very much what you find in the Ivalice games as a connecting thread. I can't agree it's not something one wouldn't listen to outside the game, depending on what you do with your spare time. If doing something low-level on the activity scale like writing or drawing, it is definitely a tone setter.
The woman in the cutscene at the start was Mullenkamp, the priestess the cult in the game is named after. Not cut content, just letting you see the character the Rood Inverse stemmed from.

So the priestess died prior the events of the game?

Sorry to ask this here, but do you know how to run this game at 60fps in Duckstation? If I overclock to 400% the game plays in fast-forward instead of regular speed. Any tips?

gosh I hope they will not remake it with a party system.
I HATE the FF12 combat. The reason I never finished it.
If they ever remake it I hope it is a God of War combat or Castlevania. Or leave it as is. But please no party to manage.

The Party can just be AI controlled.
