just a reminder, your teammates can heal you in moose form with things like healing salves or honey poultices. this is incredibly strong when you take into account the moose's marble suit level defense.
There is a reason to use moose over default for most fights it can be used in, it requires little to no resources, while fighting them normally would consume a lot even if you are decent at kiting, it has Hambat damage, but unlike the hambat, there is no spoil time once you craft the idol, meaning you essentially have an free ham bat form, on top of all of that the moose’s unique quirk means that his regen combined with both his charge and ability to extend his timer by hitting an easy to craft dummy means that moose can fight in a way that no one else can, giving him unique ways to survive fights with waiting phases, or even dodge while doing damage with his charge, essentially meaning that phases that would normally require late game items or advance set up, the shadow pieces become hard but possible with very little preparation if you use Weremoose and especially if you have team with either a Wortox or wigfrid, who can both support the moose in a way that makes him able to keep himself alive while being more aggressive. Also it’s just more fun to fight bosses with the moose because minimal prep with his charge makes dodging feel satisfying as him versus just putting every non armor item into speed.
I think weremoose makes seasonal bosses trivial but it's the raid bosses (aside from AG) that I had lot of difficulty with in were-form. I would 100% rather have bright shade gear + bone armor and a few jelly beans over moose any day of the week. But then of course by the time you have these the game is pretty much over... so yeah. If the devs keep adding post-rift bosses and content though moose is going to be obsolete within a few updates. Don't know why they didn't think of something as simple as infusing idols with pure brilliance or pure horror.
Weremoose with full mastery actually does around 159 dps higher than a dark sword. And you can woodie solo shadow pieces easily. Just tank the damage to kill the knight, then kill the rook while kiting both the bishop and the rook with charging. Finally just attack the bishop and charge when it teleports. The bishops damage is only around 3 damage in second phase and that would be healed by the moose's regen and in phase 3. It will only do around 7 damage each time so as only as you have decent health, you can just tank it.
Fun Fact: the 3rd skill tree point in Werebeaver can also hit the Dreadstone Pillars for Nightmare Werepig, making Woodie the only character who DOESNT need a Pick/Axe to fight Werepig (with the skill)
man what a beautiful video you truly made us (Woodie players) happy it's true that Woodie can do a lot of things like gathering and fighting and exploring and have a lot of extra utilities but not as good as other people can but what makes him fun and unique is that he can do ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL of these tasks and not be a one use character (AKA WARLY) he's like jack of all trades master of none and that's why i like him plus: he is married to a (slightly annoying) f@#!ing AXE, how cool is THAT
They are not married because when your beefalo die and you have new shadow bell woodie will say that he lost his second best friend (the first is Lucy) so they are only friends 😭😭😭😭
Woodie to me is a prime example of "Jack of all trades, but a master of none." He's an extremely versatile character that can do... well basically all of the primary things you'd need. Goose for Exploration, Moose for Combat, and Beaver for Gathering. However, while he can do everything there are some characters that just do these things in better and more functional ways. Wortox's teleporting or WX's speed upgrade for Exploration, Wolfgang's mightiness or Wanda's chain watch for combat, Maxwell's shadow clones or Wurt's merms for gathering. It's not to say he's bad, far from it, but his capabilities are just out-shined by others which makes his versatility really the only thing that makes him worth playing.
The thing about his kit is that he has very accessable, early game yet very strong in pretty much all aspects which fade away the more you progress. Unlike other chars he has no fun progression from early to lategame aside spices and beans because he's getting it all from the get go for a few pieces of monster meat. And also his goose form alone being quite a shadow over Wortox in terms of exploration and Wurt not being able to swim still to beat him in that regard either.
What if the price to pay is becoming an uncontrollable entity? The only way to transform back is to wait it out or have other players defeat you. Boss woodie would stay at the transforming area only
Nice video again, one more thing to talk about a bit is how some perks affect beefalos, in this case, the fast gathering skill affects the speed you have when you are on a beefalo, making you faster than other players on beefalo and a bit faster than on land characters. It is not a big perk but it is worth mentioning.
This is why Woodie is my main. The lumberjack of all trades, master of some. If the weremoose had 1 health per second regen and the lunar affinity skill was on Wereform Mastery instead, I'd call him perfect. but everyone needs a downside. I'm still staying Shadow Aligned because I love the shadow side. :)
Very nice analysis on Woodie! Only thing I'll say is that Woodie's follower buff actually depends on which follower you're giving food to. As you showed, Woodie will increase the maximum loyalty timer for Pigmen, but NOT for any other followers. However, Woodie will have more efficient loyalty gain per food for Bunnymen and Rock Lobsters, with +2 and +1 minutes per offering respectively.
Oh wow I didn't know about that werepig hack. Thanks so much for that! That's super OP lolol. I love Woodie but he is as good as you get from day 1 unfortunately. This is the way I progress him. First autumn, find lunar island, dig up those star fish things, find oasis and make your first 1-2 (depending on herd size) volt goat farm. Rinse and repeat till you're able to spam spicy volt goat jelly. Character switch and you know what to do next xD.
honestly he’s kinda like walter in a way, he has all these weird niche buffs but he hs his skill tree and his wereformes to help round out the character. Now i want to see what a skill tree could do for walter…
If I was part of the dev team I'd make a tech tree that is available for you as the player, which would include picking stuff up faster, and this would apply no matter what characters you play, and then give unique stuff to each of the characters. The fact that a woody is just gonna gather everything faster just because he's woody is a bit...
The only problem i have with woodie was with how his refresh decided to pull him into multiple new directions and ignore his main thing, being a woodsman with a sentient axe. Dont get me wrong, i think his new forms are fun and all, but really wouldve liked it more if they would explore his were beaver and woodsman theme more. Most of his new form functionality couldve been packed into his already present beaver form yet somehow his beaver form ended up being his weakest. I mean they even removed his ability to eat logs which makes me sad. Atleast his skilltree update was pretty good and brought much needed woodcarving crafts.
Speaking of harvesting speed, I religiously refuse to play the game without PickyPickyPicky mod. It has saved me so much time (and headaches) by being one of the best QoL mods out there.
Well, whule end game gear is stronger than moose form, I can carry all moose idols in the 1 slot so I could fight seasonal bosses and endgame hounds/worms anytime. It's just a nice thing even in the end game
I kind of disagree about how you say weremoose shouldn't be used for a lot of situations (8:27). It is possible in a lot of fights and excels in many others. An example is Klaus fight; you can tank the fire spell because your 90% damage reduction reduces everything, including fire damage, and you can simply charge when he tries to jump to you on his second phase. This makes you able to finish the fight a lot quicker. It is also super cheap, and you can beat a lot of bosses with just 3 grass and 2 monster meat instead of wasting important resources on making armor like theuthie crowns. Wearmoose mastery also makes you deal more damage than a darksword finishing fights quicker. (Other examples of Woodie being better in some cases are the shadow pieces, where you can finish the fight a lot quicker by killing knight, rook, and bishop, as you can charge when the bishop teleports to you and you would only take little damage.) The bishop also has less health and takes longer to attack than the rook. If you are a skilled player, You can even fight the celestial champion; I tried it, and it is very possible, and you can even not eat any healing food if you are very pro at playing weremoose. Btw, all of these examples are if you choose all weremoose skills. This is all just my opinion and feel free to tell me why I'm wrong.
Well its the point of it If you are practiced and intend to use moose as much as possible. he is kind of good. But if you don't intend to use it as the main source then the different mechanics you are not practice with to avoid damage can cause you to take more than you would normally. Hence why you really shouldn't rely on it if you are not intending to use it as much as possible. As the player looses out so many options to approach the fight.
@DVGMedia1 Ahh, I see what you mean. I am a woodie main, so these mechanics just seem simple for me. I can understand new people dying easily as the moose because they do not understand how to use it properly. And I agree that people who didn't master the mechanics yet should not use the moose. Thanks for the response.
my only issue is that maxwell shouldnt be even remotely as strong at collecting wood as a literal beaver lumberjack at any point in the game, besides that i love how woodie is a strong early game character, he can level a forest and a quarry with just one beaver transformation sometimes, then process to rush to ancient guardian and fight it with just moose transformation , then go to lunar as a goose and get the bushes and kelp, sure other characters can do it, but not all three things nearly as fast as woodie could
Idk what you're talking about with moose being kind of overrated. You get planar damage, slight aoe, built in infinite armor, and stupid health Regen if you stack jellybeans on with it. Only time I stop regularly using moose for combat is like CK since you need to row
Its just that being able to use items is more valuable than moose ever will be. Not saying you cant do it others have proved it. but you will have a much easier time using items over going moose.
@@DVGMedia1 Yea but that's the thing; unless you're running like post-FW gear, or you need like Weather Pains/Panflutes, Moose is often still both faster and easier. Moose is facetank incarnate
The title should be: A lumber-jack of all trades
The fact the werebeaver does bonus damage to log suits is a neat little bit of trivia. No idea why that's a thing, but it's neat.
strange pvp exclusive interaction
Punching bags and ickers can also wear body armour
Beaver also does increased damage to grass suits. Nice little niche realism/consistency
Klei's attention to detail is top notch

Woodie's bonus harvest speed seems like WX's no food spoilage. Useful, extremely convienient and really hard to adjust to not having.

You are one of if not the best dst youtubers at the moment. I can actually learn something new from these videos after 4k+ hrs in this game.
either you like the skill trees or not, they made woodie one of the most fun characters to play in the game. and i love it.

I really just love lucy, shes so manic insane, and quirky.
When I look at woody, I see helmets and a dead frog
I'd say something everybody sees when they see woodie is a troll
specifically if it's a beaver main
i’m just learning everything about dst each from video to video thank you for sharing
Loveee this video! Woodie is one of my faves, his early game prowess is no joke.

idk why klei likes to give boring alignment perks, like compare wilow's alignment oerks with woody's
