Astonishing, towering genius. Abbey Road, the Beatles' last album and perhaps the most iconic of all their iconic masterpieces, the Beatles are at the top of their game. And, oh, the musicianship of the band is breathtaking: George Harrison's lead guitar soloing is astonishingly fluent, fluid, at turns jazzy, majestic, and then fiery and raw, with Harrison's now iconic cascading arpeggios, and narrative driven solos; Ringo decimates naysayers with his inventive and suddenly funk-friendly, sophisticated and melodic (!) fills and grooves; Lennon and McCartney are thunder and lightning in everything from proto-funk rock (Come Together) Latin-rock-funk-metal (I Want You, She's So Heavy), and of course, its the "Quiet Beatle" George Harrison who steals the show with his incandescent Something and Here Comes the Sun. The sophistication and yet immediately addictive vocal harmonies, iconic guitar playing, grooving drums: the Beatles define their sound, their era, and they set the template for future conceptual masterpiece, for geniuses of succeeding generations, from Prince to Beyoncé, the team Dre and Eminem to Mary Blige, and so many more in their conceptual album masterpieces. That is the measure of their influence and the brilliance of the Beatles, demonstrated well...here, there, and everywhere on this chef-d'oeuvre, ABBEY ROAD.
And compliments, MANY compliments, to Cimdy Style for HER sense of smart style, strikingly sensitive and insightful reviews, and compelling presence. She's all of THAT: Smart. Compelling. Thought-provoking. Gorgeous.
Cimdy Style: Now THERE'S a commentator worthy of the smart, thought-provoking, and gorgeous album, Abbey Road.

Both Albums show the Beatles at the top of their form as musicians, playing a very bluesy, often both jazzy and gospel-influenced, mix of road-house, proto-funk, soul baladry and Latin rock styles.

@@betsyab121 : Indeed, although I do like the raw, bluesy, jam-session based feel of the whole of Let It Be. Abbey Road also features a funk, groove-tight sound, with a startlingly fluid, Harrison-dominating guitar and Ringo's most accomplished, groove-oriented playing.
But that doesn't diminish the gospel-inflected power of the song Let It Be, or say, the terrific blues wail of Harrison's guitar solos on his sophisticated I Me Mine, which could have fit easily into Abbey Road (the album version of I Me Mine is actually the last song the Beatles ever recorded together; likewise, George recorded this famed "screaming"lead guitar solo on the album version of Let It Be after his version for the single. It is the last guitar solo that Harrison recorded for the Beatles as a unified band).
And songs like I've Got A Feeling, Get Back, and One after 909, all songs written out of jam sessions, have a terrific raw, roadhouse sound and are incredible funky, groovy numbers. It's classic late-era Beatles stuff.

    • @renechateaubriand2645
      @renechateaubriand2645 3 роки тому +4

Indeed, indeed. Even that most eclectic of near-contemporary icons, the late guitar genius and songwriter Prince, works with the Beatles template: creative control, multicultural/multiracial eclecticism, strikingly inventive melodicism and experimental, often avant-garde musical juxtapositions, and of course, the iconoclastic rebellion against established norms, gender, class, and race hierarchies. And certainly musically, the influence is direct: never mind Prince's shout-outs to the Beatles (Raspberry Beret, Pop Life, his iconic guitar solo tribute to George on George's While My Guitar Gently Weeps, etc.), you can trace Prince's mix of raw intensity and majestic, octave-climbing, narrative-driven guitar solo on Purple Rain almost directly to George Harrison's similarly conceptualized, iconic guitar solo on the album version of Let It Be.
In fact, if you think about it, you can find the Beatles' enduring influence in artists ranging from the team of Eminem and Dre (a contemporary Lennon and McCartney in temperament, approach, and areas of genius) to Beyoncé's and certainly Mary Blige's concept pieces, let alone the classic rock-era's masterpieces by Marvin Gaye (What's Goin' On), Stevie Wonder (Inner Visions, Songs In the Key of Life), and so on, ever thus.
Unimaginably great , iconic, era-defining works by the Beatles have given rise to and directly and indirectly influenced succeeding generations of iconic artists in different genres. And this perhaps is the most poignant and powerful evidence of the Beatles greatness: they defined the 1960s but they continue forever to shape the Ages.

You could hunt around and find the most popular songs. Or look at the Beatles discography and listen to them one after the other. Like we did when we were 16 years old and be taken on this musical journey over seven years. Jumping around you loose the musical development, the increasing sophistication, the change in style and the their entire expansion. (At the beginning of course the songs were simpler, but knowing roughly where they ended you can keep your ear out for the milestones they were passing to get there.

I not sure if I've ever enjoyed listening to this as much as I did watching your face light up while you listened. Doing reactions to whole sides is a great idea......I know it'd take some time .....but maybe do the whole Beatle experience from start to finish....side at a time......sure would be fun to do that again.....except this time with you along throughout the journey. Totally loved loved LOVED THIS!!!!! 💖💋💖💋💖🎼💖🎹💖🎸💖🌈💖💋💖💋💖

This side B of Abbey Road is simply the cherry at the top of the tart. They actually showed their inspiration on being a rock band here, there and everywhere. This album will remain into the top of the hall of best music ever written. You can't stop listening and being captivated with every single tune...... yes. They are the best of the best ever.

I still get chills when I hear the end of this medley. The first time I heard it I was a little girl. My dad would play the Beatles in the car when we went on trips. When this album came out, it was sad as it was the end of an era and also so beautiful at the end. I love the Abbey Road video with them playing on the rooftop in London. I love the way Paul changes his voice to sound like Ringo's in You Never Give Me Your Money. My favorite line is out of Polythene Pam, she could steel but she could not rob....

Wow. Honestly I can't believe you played the 2nd side without saying a word. It was mesmerizing for me. The Beatles... their body of work..... Epic. Can't be put into words and communicate it fully. And Ringo.... what you said is so true. And I wasn't aware of that until recently I've seen videos of drummers singing Ringo's praises
and then demonstrating what he's doing and why he stands alone in many ways for what he contributes to the
band. And I could see it and listen to it and it made complete sense. And I'm in my 60's (66). My first record album that I purchased is .... Meet the Beatles. Came out in January, 1964. I was 9 years old... and I still have it.
Anyway, I was watching and listening to this reaction video and I heard myself say silently... Well you have to
subscribe to this. It doesn't get any better than this. So I did. Beautiful. Great smile. Great energy. Thanks, Dave

At times I have a hard time listening to this because it chronicles the end of The Beatles. I tear up at Golden Slumbers (Lullaby) and You’re Going To Carry That Weight. It’s like a message to the fans, and then what they expect after the break up

After the disaster that was the 'Get Back' sessions, Paul was still keen to put out another album and wanted George Martin to produce it. George's main stipulation was that he gets to produce it the way he did in the old days and ALL 4 guys be involved, especially John. Although John did miss out on some of the studio time because of a car wreck (the man can't drive, folks), he did show up and with some enthusiasm. Side 2 of the album is definitely a testimony to Martin's production mastery. John is often disparaged for calling Side 2 'junk'. Well...it actually was. It was a conglomeration of unfinished bits that were laying around which were patched together to be something. It was also the last message to Beatles' fans. Although no one was consciously thinking that this was the last album ever, it turned out to be not only a magnificent end to an album but a fitting goodbye message.
Thanks for listening to that with me.

Yeah, pretty junk. John had a habit of talking himself into corners. Like when he said Ringo wasn't even the best drummer in the Beatles. Ringo was the right drummer for the the band . Think if they'd a Keith Moon, or Ginger Baker, super egos who upstage at every chance. And Ringo was learning & developing as they learned & developed.

Ringo is a left handed man who plays a right handed drum kit. His drumming is unique because of that and because he was rock solid. John, Paul and George wanted ringo. That's how good he is.
