    I feel like 8.25 is my new sweet spot. I also think that will change as I age more hahaha.
    This is interesting to watch knowing that you go onto some pretty big shaped boards later.
    Cheers for all the vids mate.

      Yeah i have ended up going bigger but it does come at a cost, weight etc…If I wanted to go really technical again I’d definitely not go any lower than 8.25. I tried an 8 recently and couldn’t understand how someone could even skate that haha

      Yeah when I started skating that was the size everyone wanted but it 100% was detrimental to my learning when I think back. I’m going to set mine up again and try and skate it at some point just for fun 😁

      @@iamlazyskater I'm 99% sure every deck I had in my OG career was a 7.75 because that was the era. I honestly feel the most comfortable ever on an 8.25. After the first skate, I went home and pressed F for all those weekends watching flip tricks spin all over the place (except under the feet!). LoL

    Very informative and helpful as usual. I would never have thought a wide nose like the ones on the FA/Hockey decks would be good on a smaller deck. Good to know.

    I remember mid-‘90s riding 7.5-7.6” boards. I had a buddy with an 8.5 black label and it just seemed wild. I still haven’t ridden an 8.5 specifically but I’ll ride whatever 7.5-10” I think my preference is 8-8.25” for popsicles and 9.25 for shapes, and I’m 6’3 225-230

    As a beginner who hasn’t skated in ten years, what are your thoughts on an 8.5 deck to learn basics on etc? I assume the larger surface area of the deck would make it feel more stable and in control with gaining my balance back? Thanks a lot man.

    • @iamlazyskater
      @iamlazyskater  3 роки тому +1

      Have you skated 8.5 before? It is slightly on the wider side of skateboarding but the reasoning you mention is true. Its more sturdy with the downside being its heavier for flips etc (still definitely possible). I would say that its a good idea but maybe be aware of the fact that you might have to get a new set-up later down the line as you progress

      @@iamlazyskater thanks for the input my man. No I have not. If I were to guess that board I had back than was probably an 8.0. Is it uncommon for skaters to size down vs up? Thanks dude I think I’ll order an 8.5 to get going👍 thanks again!

    I went from 8.5 to 8.25 and I did it bc of the same reason as you. For me, it's more difficult, bc it's smaller and for me it's scarier. Also, I'm 6'4" and got a smaller board not only in width but also length, I notice that too. Maybe that's also why I'm scared.

    • @iamlazyskater
      @iamlazyskater  3 роки тому

      144 or 139 will work for an 8.25. if you are planning to stay on deck sizes up to 8.25 and smaller get 139. 144s are wider and will also mean you can ride 8.38 decks too. Wheel size is preference. I use 53mm. Anywhere around 50 - 54mm will work fine

      Most of my trucks are relics from the ‘90s when boards were narrower. As boards got a bit wider I got used to riding with trucks a bit narrower, 8” deck 7.65” trucks, 8.25” with 8” trucks, but I do tend to prefer wider wheels

      @@iamlazyskater that sick, love the dude. i read somewhere that fa/hockey decks measure their width straight across (not accounting for the concave) and that quasi measures them across including concave, creating the effect that fa/hockey decks are in practice bigger/heavier than their size suggests. not sure if this is true tho, dont have either one handy to measure myself.
