Just discovered this channel a few weeks ago, and I find your analysis very interesting, and I'm very much enjoying your posts. I used to play a lot of chess at the local chess club, many tournaments, many books, etc. Thank you for renewing my interest in the game.
@3:17 There is a video called Slaying the dragon, by Roman Dzinzihasvilli, where it talks about this opening. So basically, after you castle long , you make 3 moves as white. Bc4, to prevent d5. Bb3 to prevent it being captured and Kb1. because of some combinations end up in a queen trade with a check as intermezzo. After that, you are again forced to move the bishop a 4th time, and only then, you start pushing. His solution is the following. After black does Nc6 (or depending the transpositions, but at thend, reaching the same exact position at 2:53), you castle as white. So, according to the variations, this works best when the black lightsquare is still on c8 and they moved a7 instead (1 variation in particular), but anyways, this is where you move Kb1, allowing d5, the point is that you start rollong h4, and if white proceed to do the pawn capture at e5, you capture the knight at c6. If the bishop is still at c8, black usually trades queens here. If black is not paying close attention, the position looks almost exactly the same as usual, but the king is at b1, not c1. There is no check when trading queens, and you dont have to capture right away, instead you do Nxe7+ intermezzo, then capture the queen after. Just won a piece. and I, many games right there. If that doesnt happen and black proceeds to do the knight maneuver. You dont move the light bishop. You start rolling the h pawn early (cant roll the f pawn else ). The knight will still end at c4, you just capture when the time is right. Instead of moving the bishop 3 times to then move it a 4th time just to get captured, you just move it once. you already have h4, if anything, you do have to play be2 to push the g pawn, but that still are 2 moves that you saved. Black will often overlook the slight variation of the position and proceed robotically. There are other ways the game can go after@2:53, all favor white except 1, which is a forced draw by repetition, but still has to be played flawlessly by black. After one of the ckecks, black has 2 squares, 1 safe, the other one loses the rook. the second check is either to reset the previous position or again, to lose the rook. but you cant drop the check either or you lose. Anyways. The point is that if you are the lower raiting player, since is an analysis from mid-endgame, you are almost guaranteed to gain points for a draw, there are many pits where black can go wrong. That is a lightning fast attack.
They could have been playing under an old 50-move rule from 1989. Queen vs 2 bishops was one of the exceptions allowing for 75 moves instead of 50 back then. The rule was eventually changed to 50 moves in all positions. More likely, though, is that the +10 rule had higher priority than the 50-move rule. It makes sense because mistakes can cut the number of moves to less than 50.
Just as I ran out of Alpha Zero and Leela Zero videos to rewatch, you uploaded this glorious engine game. Engine games are my favorite type of chess, just because of some of the insanely ludicrous moves.
Agad its so nice that you explain why certain moves would lose games and not just skip them. Im not that good so i was surprised why you would not take the knight at 7:15 and you explained it.
It’s 72 moves to checkmate, but during this time the queen will pick off the bishops (which unfortunately cannot defend each other) and the 50-move rule resets.
There's something almost celestial about the engines. Without a doubt, the old masters would give anything to play against Stockfish. The engines sparked a different kind of revolution for chess. Unlike previous generational changes though, their influence is seismic. We are witnessing a world where chess is basically quantized. And they aren't stopping either. The engines continue to get stronger, but the draws are really starting to stack up too. Take a peek at TCEC from time to time.
Disappointed. Per the title I clicked all excited to learn the principles of how to mate with a queen vs 2 bishops. It would be less then 50 moves in other positions.
Hey Antonio, the reason the game would continue past move 50 in that endgame is that before move 50, white will get one of the bishops, and a capture ends the countdown.
The 50 move rule states that a player can claim a draw if no capture has been made and no pawn has been moved in the last 50 moves. So if one of the bishops gets captured before 50 moves have passed, the count will start from the beginning .
I thought I read some time back that the 50 move rule had been extended to 75 moves because engines had proved that wins could be accomplished beyond 50 moves. Am I just wrong about that, or it is limited to certain federations or certain tournaments? In this game, it would have made the difference.
Yes it's mate in 72 but while in all that the Queen would have to fork and capture at least one of the bishops and it wouldn't be a 50 move draw since capture happened. There's a practice on lichess if u wanna check it out Queen vs two bishops
I am very confused. The computers agree to a resignation based on table based outcome having white eventually lose. But table based chess has been solved for any position with 7 pieces on the board. Both engines should have agreed to the outcome at 14:14 when the rook captured that pawn.
I have 2 questions: 1) Isn't there Stockfish 10 or it was developed after the game? 2) If there is a forced checkmate in 72, why does the chess24 engine just say +0,3 for white or not enough depth/computing power?
Forced mate in 72 moves, which would happen if they can find the lines. 50 move rule likely wouldn't apply as there would likely be a bishop capture in there somewhere resetting the 50.

I thought I read some time back that the 50 move rule had been extended to 75 moves because engines had proved that wins could be accomplished beyond 50 moves. Am I just wrong about that, or it is limited to certain federations or certain tournaments? In this game, it would have made the difference.
Isn't the 50 move rule reset if there's a capture? Seems quite likely that Stockfish wins one of the bishops before the 50 moves are up.
Looking at the thumbnail.
Me : it's a draw
Agad: find the mate in 72 moves.
"try to find the mate in 72 while I give you couple of seconds"
it would be great if you put in the description the date of each game
I wonder if Stockfish was able to enjoy winning the TCEC Superfinal, it being a machine and all …
Btw, does any of the 72 moves involve captures? Because then the 50 move rule resets right?
We got the slow motion queen move again!!! 🙌🏻 😂🤣
The 50 move rule resets when you capture a bishop
please do more tcec!
Yes it's mate in 72 but while in all that the Queen would have to fork and capture at least one of the bishops and it wouldn't be a 50 move draw since capture happened. There's a practice on lichess if u wanna check it out Queen vs two bishops
Depends on the starting position. This position is a draw
I can’t believe how human-like engines can be, choosing to resign over being forced to look for mate in 72
I need to see a queen vs bishop pair endgame pls
I am very confused. The computers agree to a resignation based on table based outcome having white eventually lose.
But table based chess has been solved for any position with 7 pieces on the board.
Both engines should have agreed to the outcome at 14:14 when the rook captured that pawn.
I have 2 questions:
1) Isn't there Stockfish 10 or it was developed after the game?
2) If there is a forced checkmate in 72, why does the chess24 engine just say +0,3 for white or not enough depth/computing power?
Stockfish may be able to win one of the bishops in less than 50 moves but to mate takes 72 moves.
In thumbnail Stockfish is about to gulp the White King!
That's really interesting. The 50 moves rule should be abolished for the 73 move rule
If those remaining black pieces could able to read the 52 moves rules, they will be very upset.
Houdini indeed.
Even tho it lost its moves were incredible and he was indeed a master of the escape.
Forced mate in 72 moves, which would happen if they can find the lines. 50 move rule likely wouldn't apply as there would likely be a bishop capture in there somewhere resetting the 50.
#suggestion Komodo Dragon vs Lc0, game 39 of the Bonus SuFi 2, Season 20. Interestingly, for the most part the game repeats human lines, definitely an enjoyable one!
What is "human lines"?!
@@tabularasa9576 What I mean is that this game is not the kind of engine game you look at while thinking "no human would play this". Indeed, the game doesn't deviate from previous human games early.
@@tomriddle5518 alright, but just because human play it does not mean it is the best out there.."human lines" are of many errors so actually not the best way to play chess..but only for us to understand it as chess viewers it is easier
@@tabularasa9576 it may be difficult even for a super GM to understand all the best moves, which are chosen by top chess engines and NNs. So games like this, in which the top moves are actually those that some humans have played already, are easier to comment for Agad and for us to enjoy.
biggest mysteries of the world
1)bermuda triangle
2)aliens
3) completely new game
I have found a new game to play while watching Agadmatorino games.
It is to find out if there is a queen lurking in the back rank semi-hidden behind Agad.
It’s crazy to me how right humans were able to get prior to chess engines. This line has been standard theory for decades, and computers still play it up to a certain point because we got those moves right, through trial and error over years.
What kind of time format are they playing or how long are they allowed to calculate?
180 minutes with 15 second increment.
I personally don’t believe in applying the 50 move rule in engine games, i think the number of moves should be extended to a certain suitable level although i wouldn’t possibly know exactly which number.
