shoutout to the sound engineer of KEXP, whoever is mixing.... man!, in all the performances, A+ on sound
I think it may even be better than the official recordings
@@martonlaszlocsernak1886 It is
a hell of a sound
For real! I have never heard these guys before, but this sound is just immense!
Absolutely true
"Maybe this is not the end
Maybe I'll see you soon again" 💔
Necrologue is a powerful song. Beautiful and sad. It hit me so much.
This is how you mix bass. Everyone else, take notes.
As a new bass player and a slightly experienced sound guy with a new studio I've been playing around in... I want to know what you hear? What are they doing right? It just sounds "normal" to me. Does that mean it's really correct or what?
@@mjodr You can hear the notes. Even me I have usually hard times to hear the bass. But I think it is also linked to the way the bassist plays and his setup.
Its a Rick. They cut through like no other.
@@mjodr I think there's several things going on here. Like @Kryptonian said, the Rickenbacker helps, the high gain allows the sound to cut through better, but at the end of the day the sound guy can always bury the bass in the mix. Whether that's taking away the clarity of the attack by cutting highs and mids, mixing it directly in line with the guitars so it doesn't hold its own distinct place in the bigger sound (which might not always be a bad thing, context matters I suppose), or literally just lowering the volume because... it's the bass and who cares what the bass is doing /s
Here, the bass is present without being overpowering. Notes are clearly articulated (thanks to the playing style), it's a distinct sound that you can distinguish in the mix but still blends with guitars, and the high gain gives big cut through potential.
@@anthonyritchie5128 Nice analysis. Thanks.
KEXP, give your sound producer/engineer a big raise and much appraisal. You do not want to lose that person.
Edit: Tom Hall, you're a sound god.
the second guitarist looks like a wise man, with his economical movements and ease, like nothing affects him
GREAT TALENT PROG BAND 🎸🎹 THANKS KEXP 👋
i grew a beard just by watching them play
I got a Nordic compass tattoo partially because of them (and my two trips to Iceland).
My god... What a beauty. This sound is pure as crystal.
The sound engineer from KEXP is a sound master, and Solstafir an incredible band, with such an innovative sound ! One of my favorite live performance ever !! It' so emotionnal !!!
When the Aliens come to take us away, they're only going to take Iceland. The rest of us are not going.... =0
If someone asks me to explain whats in my head, I answere "Solstafir is what my feelings sound like".
wow, that live performance sounds better than the studio recording, hail to KEXP- Tom Hall and Sólstafir. Excellent !!!!
Best band in the world that nobody knows about. \m/ \m/
I have never heard such a good sound. Hello from Ukraine to the Vikings.
"Have you ever been on the edge
Have you ever fallen down
Have you ever lost your ground
Have you ever tried the pain..."
Just saw these guys play Bristol last Sunday. Been listening to them casually for a while & I had a feeling they were going to be special live, I live in Asia & extended my trip by a day to catch their concert before I flew out. Worth every second, they were one of the highlights of my entire trip to Europe! Thank you Solstafir!
I saw them live on the same tour in London. I had never heard of them before, a fan of Katatonia. Saw the tour advertised, gave them a listen and decided I liked them "enough" to get tickets and go for both bands... Went to the show, loved their show so much, preferred it so much more than the Katatonia set. Even got to hold Addi's hand as he climbed his way across the stage barrier. Amazing evening, best gig for a while
This drummer is much better than other
Saw them last night. Mind blown. They are soooo much better live than on their albums. Raw emotion, amazing sound and music. If they're playing near you, do not miss out.
Gonna see ´em now Nov 26 at Debaser/Stockholm. Can´t wait!
@@TheVargen1971 How was it?
Fantastic! Atmospheric. No talking between the songs the first 50 minutes wich was kool. Great sound engineering too. Missed a couple of songs thou "Nárós. Svartir, Sandar, Necrologue". Fjara was magical. @@dafniFS
Niiice! Happy to hear that :) I was at a Soen concert recently. If it's your thing, also to recommend! @@TheVargen1971
@@dafniFS What a awesome band Soen, never heard of before so thanx for the tip. Have been listening to their song ”Illusion” over and over today. Can imagine the concert must’ve been great.
What a sound. The mix kick ass.
KEXP - godlike sound engineering.
Pipi Longstockings has gotten into Nordic Metal, love it!
Hello Sólstafir,
Thank you for your donation to humanity.
All the best,
Ty
I like how he says it's more enjoyable to play when he is in his 40's versus his 20's because he isn't hungover all the time. Too true man, too true.
The instruments and vocalist sound so good here. Love how defined the Bass guitar is in the mix. Been a fan for 8 years.
man KEXP has taken over. Thank you for bringing radio back :D
Necrologue Is just.... Wonderful it Hits me every time. 🖤😥
Out of this world!!!
Solstafir is so solid playing live, I legitimately forgot I had this live set playing in the background, and was trying to figure out why iTunes wasn't playing anything, but I was still hearing music lol
Круто!!! Одна из моих самых, любимых команд.

The bass sounds awesome! I don't think I have ever said that before...
I’m coming to the conclusion that Iceland just has some of the best and innovative bands
Ha, I was thinking Baroness, too \m/

The first track almost moved me to tears... breathtaking! I don't speak a word of Icelandic but I feel like I relate.

@@pelequ Nós gostamos, isso basta.
I Love Solstafir!
What do you think of what they did to their drummer?
Great band, great sound. Thank you all!
Love KEXP. They always come up with these great artists I never heard of.
The wall of sound and the groove... Wowww.
Nos vemos en Madrid!!
Very cool conversations between even cooler tracks.
What a warm, comforting sound
words cant describe how badass and cool it is
My suggestion is the Words "badass" and "cool"
Слова не нужны, когда музыка идёт изнутри
I'm literally in tears. The performance, quality everything is flawless🤘🏻
GREAT BAND!!!
Szuper ! Koszonom szepen !
Not heard of them before, but the volume went up and up. Really enjoyed that.. Cheers KEXP :0)
DW drums! literally the best made kit money can buy and the sound/resonance is on another level no other brand can even come close. But you have to pay major $$$
Saw these dudes last night headlining with Katatonia, was awesome
I went for Katatonia, ended up liking Sólstafir more!
Excellent job on the mix. Everything is there, raw and real!

Wow amazing presentation!!!!!
Grande Solstafir\m/ !!!!!!
This is love
I keep saying... watch for Iceland and Switzerland. Both are a rare breed for new music.
Check out tunica dartos.
What is the band he mentions at 16:46? Bird?
@@Olimpya10 I've only recognized Kontinuum after...
Great!!!!
What a treat
Vus à Rennes à l'Antipode..... génial.... Revenez-nous vite
They look like they are enjoying themselves, that's good.
Epic!
It's funny they talk about "isoilation" and a few months after they recorded this, there was a global isolation haha.
What a beautiful band they are!
Banda de qualidade
Que loucura esse som!
Hey ! Was für eine herrliche Session !!!
Eine herrliche Performance!
these nordic guys will take us to valhalla
When he's talking about how Seattle and Iceland are similar, I felt connected to that. The northeast of Germany is a bit like that as well. The region is scarsely populated, Denmark and Sweden are across the sea and Hamburg and Berlin are relatively close. So many tour routes don't have stops here. It also rains a lot here.
Um concerto para outra dimensão.
