I was out in the garden mumbling under my breath “please no blight, please no blight” we had a complete wipe out from blight this time last year in fact the last four years. Massive fingers crossed for you and me!
So glad the fam got some time away - fab to see the carrot harvest - it’s a crop we never seem to have any luck with but we will persevere. So many plans for when we move and in the meantime taking so much inspo from your channel. Here’s to a fantastic September of harvests ♥️
Ohhh and I keep meaning to say, any chance of some ‘how to’ vids with the Aga when it goes back on? Our new place has one and we’ve never cooked on one before. Feeling a bit unsure about what the ‘need to knows’ are when starting out and can’t seem to find any good videos for beginners!
@@OurSmallholdingAdventure I *think it is an electric one (although it shows how clueless I am that I hadn’t even really realised there were different types!!) 🙈🙈
Cute mug and yes I walk and spill 😂. We finally got some cool temps today and a drizzle of rain. You will have a mega harvest and preserving month for sure. Oh lord such devastation 😢 hopefully you can recover from this challenge. But you have some amazing tomatoes 🍅 mine well my big ones are slow to,ripen, but worst case I’ll wrap in newspaper to ripen in the house. No I don’t like carrot pesto either. Glad you had a great holiday and your feeling better, Ali 🌧️🌞🇨🇦
Haha who wants a full mug of coffee anyway 🤣 there’s a few more toms to pick again today (first day back in the office today 😔) so something to look forward to tonight! They’ll freeze to do together but I am going to keep seed too. Fingers crossed for brassica recovery ❤️🩹
The garden looks great and a fantastic crop of Shani blewog (caterpillars) as we’d say in Wales 😂 My Brussels are tiny so have been completely overlooked by the CW’s but my savoys have taken a beating. I think they’ve tricked us this year 😊 Nice haul of carrots and great idea preserving as soup. I eat loads over winter and used to freeze but the instant pot makes it so easy to preserve. How do you open the jars though? I have to ask Huw before he leaves for work. We had blight about 2 weeks ago and lost a couple of rows of spuds. I cut the tops off and will lift them in a few days to eat immediately. You’ll need another holiday to recover from all the harvesting and preserving. Take care and have a good week.
oooh thanks for the translation lol - yes, i feel silly feeling sorry for the caterpillars! Oh those jars can be tricky can't they! Ouch to blight, sorry to hear that. Thank you Gaynor, keep well
My carrots all seem small this year, so I’m envious of yours. Been making potato leek soup using my scabby potatoes so it hasn’t been a waste. Next year I’ll have to be more diligent sticking to scab resistant varieties.
Is it the variety Leanne? I had some short ones I thought went wrong 😂 but seems they were supposed to be stumpy 😂 Great idea on the potato leek soup! I’m going to borrow that, thank you! We tend to get a lot of scab here too, I haven’t lifted mine yet, really need to.
@@OurSmallholdingAdventure I did Touchon and Danvers. I know Danvers aren’t super long variety but for some reason I feel like they’re not as expected this year. Perhaps they’ll be suitable for pickling tho
There’s quite a bit of oil in this for roasting so I don’t think it would DH and store well but without the oil in that’s would be a great idea, thank you Maxine!
Sorry I’m late to the game on this one I’ve been on a course. I expected my tomatoes to be ripe when I got back but they are being very slow, but none of the b word here yet
Only 4 days away and come back to total devestation of cabage and sprouts , hard to believe 😢 . Best thing to do is grow more artichokes, they don't suffer from pests 😅😅
Carrot, red lentil and ham hock soup is amazing.
Ohh lovely!
Great to see you back, hope you both had a great time away.
Thank you! We did 🥰 kids too xx

Oh that's great that you still don't have it!! Fingers firmly crossed!!

Thank you! Isn't planning fabulous too? You will be there in no time!
What fuel type is the aga?

New to your channel. Your garden looks great. I've had the same problem with those damn caterpillars this year. Never had a problem with them before.
So lovely to have you on board!

Have you thought about dehydrating the carrot soup to use in other meals

Hey chic. Soo sorry about the caterpillars. Soup looked yummy and the tomatoes are sooo good this year. It's all about the carrots though!😂x
