I bought my m235i xdrive a year ago, i still come to watch reviews and hear nice things about my car. lol :)
Martey Max same here pal
What are you guys thoughts on the Xdrive system? I'm on the fence on buying one and can't make up my mind between rwd and awd, since we get rain/snow often. However I read that the xdrive makes the car alot more boring and takes 'the bmw out of it' :/
Robb G Some people have work they have to attend to every day, winter or summer. And we occasionaly get snow during winter. In the proces of buying an Xdrive at the moment.
Same
Hey man I am also thinking about buying this car, Would you recommend or wait till a new revamped model comes out
pretty crazy you can get this car for around 25k today with pretty low miles
I paid £17,995 in the UK for a 32,000 mile one, with M performance exhaust and is a proper manual (stick shift), mine is not X drive as they never sold the X drive M235i in the UK.
But did sell X drive standard 2 series models which is weird.
meanwhile, now, in late 2021, a cabrio with lowish miles cant be had for less than $35k USD. :(
@@benedictdonald4338 just got the 2016 xdrive with 40k miles for 28 sadly doesn’t have a back up camera
@@benedictdonald4338 car market is nuts right now
I basically drove this car today, but stock, and when I did a launch from a stop, I had a Matt Maran reaction lol
You cover everything I'm looking for in a car review 👍🏼
The M2 and M235 looks like one of the most fun cars you can buy. Its kinda like a practical track car.
iwilleatyopussy definitely not trash
practical race car is exactly what it is lol. grocery runs ? done. street races ? done.
This is the exact reason I got a m240i. Fast enough to seriously impress passengers, and still simple and refined enough for a cadual, smooth ride. Love it.
OMG I have been waiting for this review for over a year! FINALLY!
I like how you did the short clip of you backing up and driving off!
Great video, I love the M235i (M240i), it's the perfect size sports coupe. I drove a stock one and it was already plenty quick for daily use. The sound this one makes is incredible!
My brother-in-law has an M2 - tuned, exhaust, track package, ceramic paint protection, etc. It's a real beauty and insanely fun to drive with the 6spd manual and RWD.
I love everything about this BMW! Great review as always Matt!
the 2 series has really taken over the old slot of the 3 series as the light, fun, great driving car in the BMW line up.
Justin Bouche definetly. It has a near perfect proportion. Still think the best bmw made in the last decade is the 1m coupe.
so glad they made an M2 version of this, i would love to get a chance to drive the M version sadly i likely wont get the chance : /
Would be really cool if BMW brought back the classic 2002!
JDMteggy same af. I'm a huge fan of the 1M
"Light" lol 3600 lbs!
That exhaust is awesome! Man!, that sounds good!
Haven't even watched the video yet , but I got this car last year and have been waiting Months for u to review it
I bought my m235i xdrive about 18months ago because of this video. it true is an amazing daily driver
I'm not much on how it sounds when idling. But, the higher it goes in the rpm range, the better it seems to sound. BMW really gets it right with their inline 6's.
Sounded like a ratty fart can when he started it. Pass.
I own a M135i love the car recently had an M performance exhaust fitted to it and I thought that was loud! But that 235i sounds frigging insane! 👍
His excitement alone makes me want to buy one. Haha. Awesome.
I have a 335i with the M Sport package, and the M Steering Wheel is by far the best steering wheel I've ever held.
Ryan Ristau k :v
The car is crap but the steering wheel is great.
I rented the M2 while on vacation. So much fun! I want to buy it but I can’t, however I can get the M235i and I think I will go for it!
Hi ! Great video man. Great cinematography, great sounds and editing; you have a great knowledge and its a great script, also. All the best ( Oh dude, you might wanna cover your plates, the net time.) Shaun
Hah well timed Matt, I just test drove a stock version of this 2 weeks ago and was curious how much a tune and exhaust system would add.
almost bought one of the 2017 M240i Xdrives, nice car.
Cup holders and that little storage all have accessories. You can make cup holders into nice little storage things and you can remove that storage with lid and replace it with deep pocket
Good vid man!!
That sounds sick!
"Wassup everybody sbrudsdghdsffan here with another car review.." LOL I love it
10:14 Can't stay off that pedal hahaha :D seems like such a blast to drive
Nice Review Matt
Staggered Horizons agreed. Every time, he has to lift...
Man, those sounds though!
Review a rwd manual one please! Great video btw!
Like your reviews :) I just test drove a 2017 a bit ago though and that backseat is actually pretty spacious! Much larger than a mustang. My friend who is 6'3" and built was able to fit behind me pretty easily with headroom to spare. He does tend to slouch a bit though lol. I am short though so he had lots of leg room xD
Awesome show !!
I've got a 2015 M235i blue convertible rwd 8 speed auto. Frist auto car ive ever owned, I love manual but for this one I thought i'd try auto and I love it, I still use manual shifting to engine brake and stuff so I can still be the brain of the car. Im getting an Enzo tune for it at the end of July when the warranty ends to get it to a little over 400hp. Only got 24000 miles on it as of today.
If ordering a new M240i, you can specify the M Performance Exhaust. My M235i has that and WOW, the sound is spectacular. But I suppose the Dinan option makes sense if you already own this car.
I have the same car even in the same color, full bolt on with e30 tune and the car is a riot. Very little keeps up on the street and with my tune it’s pretty close to 3.5 0-60. Roughly 370 whp and 450 tq it’s nuts and you can make this car sound like an ak47
While straight pipe is awesome it does need at least a hi-flow resonator for a good tone less droney.
Probly one of the best values on the market
Would love to see you do a review on an Audi S3!
This was going to be my next big purchase car but think I'm gonna go C7 instead. Still love them though, especially this color combo.
nice intro. as i begin to watch vid
Need to see you do a Audi S5 coupe comparison vs the BMW M235i or M240i awd.
That blue paint looks amazing !
The color is known as Estroril Blue.
Thanks mate, really appriciated ! I love this color, but i don't dig the red interior matched with it... haha
Red is OK with a black, gray or white interior...
You should try to find a 228i xdrive to compare to it! sort of like you did with the 428 and the m4, see if the m235i is worth the extra money!
Nice review, but why did you cover the center console of the backseat?
xdrive, automatic, and red interior. Probably the last spec I'd get one in.
edit: not hating, just not my cup of tea.
Xdrive just kills it
Andrew Stone Idk, I have a stock e92 335i and the traction control light is always blinking at me. The lack of a limited slip diff really hinders a lot of the rwd fun. Also my car is useless in the snow. XDrive might be a better alternative to an open diff rwd
The Luckiest I agree. And I suppose the argument could be made that for the same price as the additional cost for x drive, you could get a limited slip diff
Amen!
Andrew Stone How would you spec it? I'd get black on black with RWD and a manual.
Car sounds great looks good but love them with the manual transmission.
I've got a M235i without XDrive as for some reason BMW don't sell the M235i or even the newer M240i with XDrive in the UK.
I'd have preferred an XDrive though as when it snows every other year or two, I'm going nowhere in my RWD M235i, oh well snow days for me not work days. Lol
Last fall when I purchased a newer vehicle, the M235i was definitely in my radar. I was swayed due to the mechanical issues BMW's are notorious for incurring. I opted for a Lexus RC-F in Black with red interior. I do love the M235i's shorter wheelbase, and aggressive front fascia with M influences abound. The transmission is a strong suit with BMW, along with a rather peppy turbo. I love the Estoril Blue, but the red interior clashes imo. Had the car in question been in white, black, silver, or grey'; the red would've been a nice contrast. The M235i offers great performance on a budget (sub $50k).
The RC-F is a great choice as well, congrats! Hoping Lexus sends me one as a press car this spring.
You made a good choice, you'll appreciate the lack of headaches.
Vette_Dude84 looking at the RCF/M3/C63 have you tried the others ?
Funny because I was cross shopping the actual M2 (not M235i) and the RC-F. I ended up choosing the M2 over the RC-F because of the shorter wheelbase and the experience of driving an M car. Even though I picked the M2, I was a big Lexus fan before I picked the M2 and you can't go wrong either way. Hopefully I'm lucky and don't have to deal with too many reliability issues with the M2.
Hey great video! Would you buy a 2015 bmw m235i xdrive or 2015 gla 45 amg? Both have around 14,000 miles on it. That’s my dilemma!!!! Both are cpo, low miles. Is the transmission that bad on the gla 45 amg? I will be daily driving it in Philadelphia city stop and go traffic. I drove both and like them both!! I don’t know what to do, please help!!
If i won the lottery this would be my winter beater
7:15 vanos just kicked in yooo!
Holy drone Batman!
Kevin Tawes superman*
One year later and still coming back to enjoy the review! haha. Late reply, but yeah it drones like a mofo! Completely aware, but don't mind it at all personally. I am a radio down, windows and sunroof open kinda guy in the summer, so the sacrifice is totally worth it to me!
Hopefully this be my next car when I ditched the g35 coupe
Did you end up getting one? I’m hopefully doing the same or at least going into a coupe n54!
please review gle63s suv 2017 and the s63 amg!!
Nice car.
had a red interior like that on my previous mustang in black, that blue and red is clashing crazy!!
I also had an M235i. The aftermarket exhaust in this video sounds pretty unrefined. I like the factory exhaust note with open valve a lot better. I loved that car.
The Weekend Driver Matt Moran has the tendency to say everything is "pretty nice" and "pretty good". I agree with you, the exhaust is unrefined and rather invasive. He says the back seats are "pretty good" like the mustang... the mustang rear seats are awful, and these are slightly better, but still not good (not that it matters).
What car do you have now
6:08 sounds incredible
It is known that the M235/240 have around 360PS factory. So they have more than advertised.
nice car
If you're ever in Miami you can review my M240i
That would be a fun car to own! Looks sporty and easy to park. 4:33 Was that Lakshmi or Saraswati? They're the two hardest to tell apart.
Yep
Saraswati
There is something about the shape I just can't get used to but I can't quite put my finger on it.
damn that actually sounds good
Old Gregg
Ofcourse it does.
its a BMW inline 6
Jort Rinket no no. The m4 sounds like shit
nice.. got one myself just like it same colour aswel look... 🚗
you got them vampire teeth matt
only thing i dont like about its the xDrive, but notice the owner is from New Jersey so he needs it. Love the blue and red interior idk what everyone else is saying its looks amazing actually, would also probably get it in Manual too but hey wouldnt mind the ZF 8-speed either they are really great.
Wasiu Adeyeye x drive is faster
Nice review. Only thing I dislike about mine is the stupid M235i logo on the cluster at all times. They could have used that space for so many more useful things.
Boosted Autos i know right! Engine temp gauge!!
Or oil temp, or oil pressure, or boost pressure. Anything would be more useful than the stupid logo.
COOL Review: Tuned 2015 BMW M235i xDrive
One of the few good looking BMW's as of late. Exhaust sounds like farts. For the cost + updates many other cars would beat the snot out of this one.
Awesome car and review but needs thicker tires.
You forgot to mention the extremely useful compartment on the left side of the steering wheel that is soft lined for storing 2 or 3 pairs of sunglasses - no one seems to “discover” that little Easter egg that BMW hid for us in the 2 series. ;-)
Eric Dever what? That exists? I’ll have to go look at my car
5:31 no key? I thought you were a Hokie. What are you going to jingle at the game?
M2 and M6 are the best bmws
I had a 128i and now I have a e92 335i. The 1 series was too small, the e92 is too big in my opinion. The 2 series seems to be the perfect size
Excellent choice for a driver who already is 90% deaf.
Hi Matt!
Great review. How does this compare to 997 911 that you reviewed?
It's been a few years since I drove that but it's a very different experience. The NA motor of the 997 needs to be wrung out and doesn't have much power down low, and the power build is much more gradual and progressive than it is in the BMW with it's turbos.
Compared to the 2013 s4, which do you feel is the better car. I like the s4 can come in manual, although not a huge deal. I feel maintenance cost will be a lot higher with the BMW. I love both cars so it's hard to pick
Kelsey Gunderson the 2015 s3 would be a better comparison personally I liked the s3 better it’s awd and 4 doors and the interior is much nicer
did you smell anything with the catless dp? please i need a honest opinion because im thinking of going catless with my f30 335i.
Of course you are going to smell things going catless… lol
sounds like a diesel truck sounds good
This the one
Does he mention which tune was used?
I have a pearl white tesla model X P100D if you want to review it... But I live in LA so yeah if you come over here for sure..
That would be awesome, I've been wanting to do a Tesla for a long time, but don't have any plans to go to LA currently. But thank you for offering!
Smile ear to ear the whole way. Can't decide M2 or 435i. Idk
do a 435 next
Could not deal with that exhaust for more than about 5 minutes. Would drive me nuts.
Wtf my gauges aren’t digital at bottom. I got the same car... did he put that in
Sounds like popcorn
What exhaust system it got?
stock power numbers are a bluff with bmw. Easily making 350 crack stock. probably 310ish wheel out of the box.
Hate the standard wheels, love the red interior!
Is it easy to finance with 14k down cost of car costs 23k with 68k and I'm 19 years old
For all you bmw owners out there, how are bmw dealerships to deal with when you mod your cars? Is tuning blown warranty instantly and what about other performance mods like the full exhaust and lowering.
iwilleatyopussy good to know. might as well pay the premium for an M car and get the added power and performance.
Incorrect, if you have BMW install your mods using their parts it will not void your warranty. I have a 2015 BMW 335i
So long as you are friendly with your service advisor you should be fine. They are fully aware of the fact that vehicles like the M235i are probably not going to stay stock and if they dont want to lose future business they won't give you any problems. Sometimes it may be hit or miss but it's been a non-issue for me.
Deeply depends on your relationship with your service advisor/mechanic(s). But always err on the side of it voiding your warranty.
Follow up with 240i!!
Are these fast? Would they beat a camero ss? 5.0? 2018
😂🤣😂🤣 itd blow their doors off from the line
What exhaust is that?
07:26 10:18 11:07 12:23 13:28 14:35 FANTASTIC !
Chilly Wizard lmao
What exhaust??
hmm.. interior engine sound fake?
What kinda screws with me is that the spiritual predecessor, the 135is, had a dual clutch auto and hydraulic steering, whereas the M235i uses a torque converter in the ZF-8 auto config and an electronic steering that gives numb feedback. You now have to upgrade to an M2 to get a dual clutch that was there in an older model, and same electronic steering..............WTF???? One good thing about the M235i is that you can AT LEAST you can option up to a LSD, but even then, that should be a standard feature on anything that says BMW and M so again, WTF????
