    Avoid filling it to the brim.
    As the EVAP system opens fuel can enter the charcoal canister leading to it getting ruined.
    This is because the EVAP system uses engine vacuum to help draw excess vapors out of the fuel tank and send them off to the engine to be burnt.
    Since the EVAP system uses a vacuum it can suck liquid fuel through the lines.

      @@IIGrayfoxII thanks for commenting on this, reason being, it seems to be a grey area. I was recently at the gas station following the advice not to fill it too much and I met a friend who works at suzuki sa and when he saw me stopping at first click, he told me fill it up full past first click. I think i will do a video on this topic

    40L is the tank capasity, not to the top of the filler. those air gaps you are filling are there to allow for expansion as the fuel warms up to the ambeant tempreture. if you fill the tank like you did and don't go for a drive you may find the tank will overflow as the fuel expans. To avoide this the manual tells you to only fill to the first click.
    The most Ive got to the first click was 38L in my gen3. a proper test would be to drain the tank when the light goes on to find out how much is left which would be more acurate.

      Thanks for the heads up. We were using the diagnostic tool to get a live reading of the tanks capacity, also with the gen 4, most we have managed to fill in is 94.5%-96%, even with the shaking. Haven’t managed to fill it 100%

    The reason the range varies when you fill up is because the range is an estimate, calculated "on the fly", based on average fuel consumption, and that average fuel consumption changes based on how & where you're driving - low range, city, highway - if you go through two tanks full in the city, fill the tank, note the range, and then immediately go onto a highway, you should see the range increase as you drive - I've seen instances where at the start of a trip, the estimated range is about thirty miles more than the trip distance, and at my destination, the estimate to empty is double that - because the actual highway consumption is so much better than the actual city consumption.
    NEVER rely on the range estimates, use the fuel level bar graph and low fuel light for guidance.
    Also - as has been pointed out in other comments - filling the tank the way you did is a good way to flood the EVAP canister - NOT RECOMMENDED.

      Thanks for the info. The best way to see whats really going on and how full your tank is, is to plug in a high end obd2 bi directional diagnostic tool. Yes range will vary, offroad vs on road, town vs highway. The reason we were shaking the car is you will find that you will never really fill up the 40l capacity at first click. If you have an obd 2 diagnostic tool. After filling up to first click plug in and check what the tank is sitting on. We have been doing tests on the highway and in town recording and offroad, gathering data, after we have enough data, we will be able to gain a clear picture of what can be attained from a full tank, on the highway, in town, offroad(low range), with 30” tyres vs 215’s, with a roof rack on vs off. We are just waiting to gather enough data to come up with reliable figures.

    I'm looking to get a Jimny. Can you perhaps tell me how far you can drive with a tank

      Its very hard to say, it depends on usage, how many mods you do on the car, driving intown vs on highway, how heavy your foot is on the paddle, with us when Optimus has the roof rack and 30” tyres +-320km’s, when we removed the rack but still kept the tyres, the number shot up to +-350, with the smaller 215 tyres on the highway its about +-370kms, with 195 tyres, we were getting better range. So it depends. One can’t give you a definite answer. We can only speak from our experience and in our case it’s modified and the numbers would be different from a stock jimny

    What software was you using on your laptop? Do you know if there is away of turning off tpms??

      @@RantsBants it wasn’t a laptop, it was a diagnostic tool. The 2023 glx in south Africa doesn’t come with tpms(tyre pressure monitoring system) built in. However i have reset these systems and saved new settings on them on other cars.

      @@febuilds do you have a link for where I can buy it?

      @febuilds  2 місяці тому

      @@RantsBants are you based in SA?, there is a huge diagnostic shop in Johannesburg, they supply many of the workshops and some dealerships, they also sell to individuals, you just need to do your research as to which one will connect to the Jimny and give you full access. Another option is to buy the suzuki software that they have in their dealerships and order the suzuki dongle to link up your pc. We are very hands on with our tech so prefer not to buy something like that online but rather prefer to go in store and test and see special functions
