The song was written out of frustration and anger. Tuomas had been at a bar, with his then girlfriend, and all the guys there kept hitting on her, even those that knew they were dating. I believe this song had to have some profanity edited out after calming down and sobering up.
From the 2004 album, Once, the 5th and last record with Tarja on lead vocals. This was the last song Tarja sang with Nightwish, it was the show closer at the 2005 Helsinki concert (End of an Era DVD), she was fired after that show. Anette and Floor have sung this also, including Wacken 2013 with Floor.
Marko has those crazy eyes, but he is actually a kind science nerd. Welcome back to NW. I like your analyze and reaction of this song. 🙂

Great reaction. A lot of your thoughts after 1 take are things I did not think of after many many. A very intense song that I have listened to a thousand times or so. I'm glad that you chose the version sung by the vocalist that this song was written for. Nightwish had 3 female lead vocalists that were all great in their own ways, and I like the versions of songs as sung by the artist the song was originally written for. It's also a reminder that the persistent band members were different musicians as the band matured.

I've read a few potential origin stories for this song. The one most frequently cited is that Tuomas was at a club with the woman that he was dating at the time and several men who knew she was with him were hitting on her anyway.
it was also used as the soundtrack for alone in the dark so I wonder if it was used after it was written or if they had a commission to write a soundtrack song (it sounds very soundtracky vs their other songs).
This song holds special significance for me because I had a dear friend named Angel who has passed. It took several years to listen to this song as she was a love of my life after she passed.

Sooooooo....... I have Tourette Syndrome, and yes it is a little bit of a bitch to have. For me Wishing to have an Angel is LITERALLY Wishing to have an Angel to help me get through a Hard Time.... It STILL is an AWESOME song and I MUST say it means SOOOO much to see other people looking into it.
Given your comments here, I definitely think you should react to the music video for _Amaranth,_ featuring the second lead singer Anette. Also, Nightwish do a lot of songs about toxic or troubled relationships _(Ghost_ _Love_ _Score_ and _Romanticide,_ to pick a couple more), though not as many as there are about the loss of childhood innocence!

This is a rabbit-hole I need to revisit. There are things about this band's sound that remind me of the things I'm fond of about Dream Theater; the theatrical presentation (bad pun, I know), the intensity, the rhythmic shifting going on; I gravitate toward stuff like that. They're growing on me. Need to put some of their stuff in my Spotify.

A small silence in music is a "tacet". Eddie and the Cruisers movie featured a good conversation about it! Marko rocks! Thirteenth Apostle? Thomas (Tuomas?) The Doubter - more logical/undertandable for people to read about someone who doubted. Vatican left it out - The Gospel of St Thomas - but the Nag Hammadi library didn't!
Tuomas the keyboard player writes 95% of the songs he's known as the metal Mozart and is an Empath. Tuomas expresses his feelings and emotions a lot into the lyrics and dramatic use of metal music and classical music to share his feelings also he has a poetic heart.
It's a shame she got kicked out, but apparently she wouldn't show up to practice sessions thinking she was "above the band" or something like that.

Actually, this song was going to be used for a TV show or movie - but it didn't happen. I think you were reading too much into it.
"Christianity" in this case simply has to refer to followers of Christ. Keep in mind that the religion didn't come along for centuries. The predominant religion during the time of Christ was Judaism. He was seen as a heretic. It wouldn't be until later that Christianity was no longer outlawed.

Ha ha ha! Wishful thinking. Tarja didn't write this song, like all the other songs she sang in Nightwish. She doesn't own any of the Nightwish songs, so every time she sings something from Nightwish at her solo concerts, she has to pay royalties to Tuomas. That's why, even from the very beginning of her solo career, she kept the number of Nightwish songs performed at her concerts to a minimum.

Why the fired siinger of almost 20 years? Nightwish has currently one of the best Singers on the planet. Tarja has her own current music, but likely she is singing NW, she cannot seem to understand she isn't with NW anymore! Maybe she should see a counselor?
