Great demo, my dude. We have a very similar setup! I've had my 205 for a couple years now and it's really my main amp at this point. I usually lean towards the orange channel but I will be giving the green a bit of a closer look.
I do like the red mode when dialed properly, it can sound really angry. But you gotta open up the mid more and back down the gain. I'm using fairly low output pickups though, perhaps red is just too compressed and squeely with high output pickups?
Thanks for sharing this video. The tone you get is incredible. I also have the JVM205 going through a 4x12 jcm900/1960A cab with G12T 75 speakers. The amp sounds great at low volume but when I turn it up it sounds like crap - as of all the warm tone becomes cold and less distorted if that makes sense. All my guitars have Seymour Duncan pickups. Are you plugging in your Overdrive pedal in the back of the amp? If you can describe how you’re connecting everything that would be great. It’s not entirely clear in the video. Thanks for your help!!
He has the pedal set up as a boost in front. The signal chain would be guitar->pedal->input jack of amp. I'm guessing when you turn the volume of your amp up, its making the speakers themselves distort which could be causing your issues. I don't know a lot about the g12t 75s but they might not love being pushed hard with high gain tones. Any way you could try another cab and see if that changes anything? I use my JVM 205h into a Mesa 2x12 with V30s and it honestly sounds fuller at high volumes so I don't know that the amp would be the culprit.
I believe the JVM is what Mustaine uses. I could be wrong and I'm sure I'll get corrected, but that dude is a major Marshall guy. I'm a Mesa guy, myself. Though I recently was given a Marshall Valvestate, and it sounds pretty good, actually.
I once owned a JVM4. I now own a 210. The first thing I did when I brought it home was convert the OD channel to that of the OD1 channel on the JVM4. I hadn’t even played it; no joke. OD1 Orange is the sound that is synonymous with the JVM. I can’t tell what he’s doing but if he’s panning the orange mode without taking the gain control down to around 4 he’s making a big mistake. If he’s using the green mode then he should be experimenting with the red mode of the clean/crunch channel, especially if he wants to use an SD-1. Crunch Red and OD Green have the same gain structure, but the voicing at the gain control and the tone stack on the crunch channel are traditional Marshall; whereas the OD channel on the JVM2 is not. The OD channel is brighter and leaner with relaxed mids. This is likely why he prefers it without the SD-1.
Thanks for the comment man, it was always my understanding that they were, but on further research, it seems you are correct. Shows how much I know about amps! Cheers
It's designed as a decently balanced starting point with the most common speakers/cabinets out there, although it still needs tweaking in the majority of cases. It's also very much about preference ofcourse!
Oh man! So good to see you post again. Hope to see more \m/
Thanks for sticking around Jeffrey! \m/
Good to see you back
Hopefully your videos become regular again
You know I’m a fan of the Marshall tone

Too much gain making it too compressed?

Try different speakers

I don't know about Mustaine, he's always changing his rig, but Alexi Laiho used a JVM.
Dig the Rammstein stuff!
Gr8 video 💪 do you know the diferences between these and the jvm 210h?
210h is the 100 watt version of this amp.
JVM Vs Mesa? Opinions...?
The 410 sounds even better :)

Most manufacturers do NOT design their amp tone stacks for noon being the desired tone. Dont say stuff like that.
Yeah you sunovabitch!

He should know this especially with a rectifier in the room. 😂
