If igbos don’t stand up there will be no village to retire to. So many retired aged Nigerians hiding in Lagos and Abuja or even whatever foreign country they find themselves in, afraid of all the insecurity. Plus still no light, bad roads, poor hospitals, SMH. As Igbos we lack foresight. You want me to retire in the village without access to basic amenities? Lol
Unfortunately we only like learning things the hard way instead of being proactive like other races.

The simple truth is the only true home of an Igbo man is his hometown. This is true for other Nigerians too but more so for the Igbo. We have a very weird sense of country in Nigeria where the only parts that we belong to is first and foremost our hometown and secondly our state of origin.
Experience has taught the Igbos to, if for nothing else, always have a place to run to when people start yelling at them to “go back to your state”. In Nigeria, just because you are Nigerian doesn’t mean you are from every part of Nigeria (I mean , on paper, you are). Customarily, your nationality is often circumscript to your town or state of origin. At any time, and for one reason or another, you could be invited to leave or evacuate any state that’s not your home state.
That’s why the Igbos spare no expense to splurge on their village homes.

In hindsight, it's a great tradition and about to become visionary for ndigbo who built palatial homes in the village:
    Why is that?!
International trade (import/export) has morphed into a Global Village such that anyone with Internet access, cryptocurrency and a 24/7 electricity supply could transact any type of business from any location on the planet.
I make bold to predict that by 2025 most villages and towns in Igboland would be equipped for global business such that the Igbo businessman could bring home his enterprise to operate from his new head office.

There's nothing wrong with building in the Village, if you have the money and the land then why not. Soon all these so called villages wouldn't be villages anymore, give it the next decade and all those places will be extremely developed. If you have the money, secure a land there now because eventually the lands wouldn't be available any more to buy because they would be sold out. Igbos are thinking of the next 10 to 15yrs to come, don't be upset when in the next 10yrs prices for lands upscale rapidly. The more development in an area, the more prices go up, sell today to buy tomorrow, food for thought.

That village in abia state is called abariba village nicknamed "small London" well developed village with great road network built and maintained by communal efforts not government right from time immemorial. That guy’s comment is proof of the wickedness of the average Nigerian. They enjoy seeing others go without because it makes them feel “big.” imagine you drive an expensive Range Rover and live in a mega mansion but plying dilapidated roads and red sand dirt tracks to get to your house…SMH. Well that’s the norm in Nigeria anyway, wickedness.

I'm from Umuchu, your comment has an undertone of envy. Have asked the villagers about the owner of this mansion? You don't just criticise people without knowing them well, he's done many laudable things for his village (Achara) and Umuchu town as a whole. He's tarred the roads, built a church, scholarships etc. You refused to blame the government for the lack of amenities but enviously attacked an individual because of his mansion.

    • @henryokoye1014

Is that road not tarred? It's looking dirty with red clay soil and other stuff but the road is tarred. Majority of the roads in Anambra are tarred. Now, maintenance is another thing.

At first I used to watch IGBO rural mansions with great enthusiasm but since I learnt that these so calledvillages are actually towns or suburban areas I was shocked. I felt shocked why Nigerian u-tubers present these vlogs to earn false fame.I want your honest comment about it.Icannot see any rural activities going on in these so called rural villages MY joy turned into gloomiest after learning that some u tubers do this sort of thing to earn false name and fame .Please restore my belief in Nigerian rural mansions. Listening clearly they are rural villages if you are looking for mud houses hardy you see one in poorest igbo villages. In my village like many villages in igboland there's no single mud or thatched houses. If you see a abariba village there's noway you will believe is a village.

    • @thetruth6396

There's the difference between cities an towns. Town is comprise of smaller villages then local government is comprise of towns, state is comprise of local governments. Some towns are villages, some are cities. Example nobody will call onitsha village but can call nnewi town village because the only town/small city in nnewi is "nkwor nnewi" but there are rural villages in nnewi. If you asked someone from one of the villages that make up nnewi town they will tell you nnewi but if you dig forward by asking the person where in nnewi they will tell you their village. Therefore anyone from igboland will first of all tell you their town before telling you their village if you ask. When igbo people say my village they mean every sense of the words. Innoson motors is an nnewi indigene, his car manufacturing company is in his rural village of uru In umudim, one of the villages that make up nnewi in Nnewi north local government. Nnewi north local government has Nnewi as the only town/city in it - there are four villages that make up the one-town local government.innoson is not the only villager who built industries in his uru village. You are mixing things up. Check out "Emeka agbanari mansion in his nnobi village and tell me what you see.

They built the mansions holidaying whenever they come to their village, some of them are occupied by their aging parents. Igbo traditional marriages and burials are done in the village. If you marry igboman's daughter who lives in lagos whenever you want pay the dowry and wine carrying/traditional marriage, the whole thing will be done in his village where his kinsmen live not in lagos. Igboman doesn't rent house in his village to live nor lodge in hotel in his village.
