    Hi Baz. I know you don't change the strings for a review but I put Worth Browns on mine tuned to GCEA and it is marvelous. Get for travel when there is little room left in the boot of the car!

      I can see that. I'd like it in C, but with these stock strings would certainly need a change I think

    Great review Baz, surprisingly interesting and a really great quality sounds for such a small instrument. I would have preferred no logo as not keen on the emoji style item. Other than that, price is fair. Enjoy the unseasonably warm weather and have a good week.

    Hey Baz this little uk sounds very traditional to me of course with that higher pitch. The instrument seems well made. I am a Soprano guy but I like this one. Thanks as always…DOC

    Bought one of these from Matt at World of Ukes in August, in anticipation of a series of business trips. Fits within my carry-on luggage and great to wind down in a lonely hotel room at the end of a busy day. Or if your plane’s delayed you can annoy everyone in the airport!
    Almost completely agree with your review: the sustain really is surprisingly good, I have put friction pegs on mine, it’s great value and I also have mine tuned in D. However I really like the headstock logo... Only issue was a sharp edge at the corner of the fretboard that took lumps out of my thumb to begin with, but soon sorted with some gentle filing.
    When buying I tried this and it’s pineapple sister back to back, I preferred this because I like a soprano twang, so players who want a more rounded sound should probably chose the pineapple.

  • @mcstabba
    @mcstabba Рік тому +1

    I've been intrested in getting a sopranino for a while and I also don't have a pineapple shaped uke so I think I'll buy the pineapple version of this. I have a laminate Kiwaya concert that I like a lot so the brand does it for me as well. Thanks for yet another great review Barry!

    Nice little instrument! Until you stated the nut length. I like fancy, but I also like plain-looking ukuleles. Umm, I know this is not what this site is for (although you have reviewed parlor guitars), but would you ever review a McNally Strumstick?

      @user-uk7ce8eg9s - Tiny people might want that scale. I have an Ohana sopranino, which I wish I could play, but the Worth strings hurt my fingers. I haven't attempted to change strings yet. I might even get a sopranissimo someday.

      Large people will too - take a look at this from a mate of mine - uke is about a third of the size of this one! I was in the audience when Ian did this ua-cam.com/video/WlMVx8jUZi8/v-deo.html

    I’m not sure why anyone NEEDS an ukulele this small. But, I guess if I had a child who seemed serious about learning to play, who’s hands are very small, then I guess I’d see the need. Might as well get one that’s built right, so the kid can really learn and enjoy it.

  • @jensenhealey08

    Friction pegs. It's not just aesthetics is it? My bet is that wholesale geared pegs, which are made by the million, are considerably cheaper than friction pegs. My first uke had friction pegs and they were rubbish. You are getting better pegs than you would if friction pegs commensurate with the price of the instrument were fitted.

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  Рік тому

      Not sure there is much in if for the price. There's less material in an entry level friction peg. But if it's about cost saving - why then spend on walnut for the bridge, and rolled edges. You'd go with tech wood and probably swap the mahogany for sapele or similar.

  • @joeobyrne3189

    Sopranino, sorry don't like them, don't like the way they look, don't like the sound. Just not my thing.

  • @ukeleleEric
    @ukeleleEric Рік тому +1

    I think that I disagree with you that sopraninos are really beginner instruments - very few beginners would spend that much on a first instrument (unfortunately) or even look at that scale. I think you need to have learnt on a soprano first and then buy it as a second or third instrument. Which makes it even more bad that they put the 'ears' on, as that will the sort of things that slightly-more advanced players would consider. Now, if I can persuade my wife that my i-Uke desperately needs replacing... (it does have a hole in the front that I've worn into it from playing, after all...)

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  Рік тому +3

      I never said sopraninos were beginners instruments. I said the Kiwaya Student series are aimed at beginners. Considering I'd never suggest a beginner starts on something less than £100 if they can avoid it - they fit that 'beginner' tag just right for me.
