Redwood and Walnut are a really nice combo. Could have done without the abilone on the back. Thanks Baz

Great review. I had no idea Ohana had such lovely high end instruments. I will have to keep my eye on them.

Love, love, love, love it! Ohana is one of my favorite brands. I have several. Always thought them as having very good quality for the price. I would love to have one exactly like this one. Thanks for all you do. I really enjoy your weekly reviews.

Thanks for a smashing review of the first OHANA I have liked on review. I am out of the habit of buying Ukes just now but never miss your reviews.

Interesting hearing this on my end. The low g seems to be hitting the resonance of my soundbar and overwhelming the sound. It happens with a couple of youtube channels I watch too.
    Beautiful uke!

    • @GotAUkulele
      @GotAUkulele  18 годин тому

This has more volume than I remember hearing from a uke and a tonne of sustain too.

The price is out of my league, but I love Ohana and picked up my new fave uke (CK42) a few months back specifically for fingerstyle playing - a concert of sinker redwood and rosewood with the same killer resonance, warmth and sustain as this custom shop tenor. Ohana is really excelling.

Gorgeous. Being from California, I've had my eye on getting a "California Uke" made with redwood and have been curious about the sound. That sounds amazing. You say you think it's better suited to picking over strumming and I'm wondering if that's a function of the wood or the build. I'm more of a strummer with picking mixed in.

Lovely ukulele. Walnut never ceases to amaze me; it is both beautiful and functions better than most alternatives as back/sides. Warms and deepens without deadening. Curious what this would sound like in spruce or port orford cedar, though I know that level of brightness may not be for you. In all, too rich for my blood but worth every penny, seems to me. Bravo, Ohana.

Yes, like that wood too - I have a Gibson acoustic guitar with a walnut back

Wow! Fantastic sounding ukulele! I had the privilege to try one custom shop at João Tostes studio, and it is absolutely stunning! The neck profile feels different and it has an absurd sustain

Yep - so lively - the sustain is insane

Another top end Uke and top review. Have seen and heard Ohana literally carving a niche with Brad and their reputation is growing. Got to say one of the most warm balanced Ukes I a have heard for a while, definitely a finger style Uke. It seems a lot of top Ukes seem to leave the Luthier with Low G nowadays, which not all suit. Thanks for the review, really enjoyed it. Have a great week.

I’m wondering if the abalone is locally sourced from Mendocino as well. Lots of it there.

On the basis of the locally sourced tonewoods, i'd like to think so!

That one is mouth watering. Love that Redwood and Walnut. I think that stylized "O" logo looks too much like Ortega's Logo.

    That is a reasonable price.
And the more instruments I experience, the more I appreciate pin and string-through bridges. It is not that I cannot tie the knots-I have friends who ask me to restring their tie-bridge instruments for them. It’s just that pin and string-through bridges have more uniform front-to-back pressure against the soundboard, and you don’t have 45+ pounds of string tension being anchored by nothing other than a thermally sensitive glue (I live in a subtropical climate and often play outdoors).’
Also love the tightly and straight-grained redwood top. Tops with ornate patterns may have great bling appeal, but acoustic value is what matters, and the top generates 90+% of the tone.

From my point of view the problem and main reason why I have not bought a Ohana Ukulele in a while is that they are really overdoing this Abalone Bling Bling thing. They have so many so sexy Ukuleles and then they ruin that classy look by throwing their instruments in a huge bowl of abalone. Yuk!

It's a material I dislike myself, though don't think it is over done on this one.
