    This is sage advice... I run live broadcasts, multicams, record audio, and I'm a drummer. I have made SO many snakes with this stuff... The trick at first was getting the right diameter. I started way to skinny and had to buy a second that was thicker. Good thing I needed both for different applications. I think they were 1" and 1 1/2". You can also get one that opens on the side with Velcro.

    to avoid the braided nylon to pop out of the heat shrink, you should use glue lined heat shrink ;)

    It is so nifty that they have a zillion different kinds of plugs to connect to one kind of copper wire...keeps everything nice and chaotic...

    Currently I am ordering parts for a 300' six channel ethercon foh snake, with a piece of 10/3 thrown in for for power. I don't think I'm going to be able to use this stuff for my snake, but nice video nonetheless.

    So stupid question but the braided cable and the heat shrink are the same size?

    How do you run cables through that, especially really long ones? You can buy this braided sleeving in extremely long lengths and I'm wondering how you'd get cables through one end to the other.

      my trick for this is a tape measure. Extend it out through the tube, tape a pull string to it, then let it retract. Ite the string to your bundle of cables and pull them through. Def helps to have 2 -3 people. 1 holds the end of the flex, one feeds the cable in, one pulls. I use adhesive heat shrink on the ends, think heat shrink tube filled with hot glue. it soaks into the flex and keeps it from pulling out of the heat shrink over time.

    how thick should the mesh be if i need to wrap 2" circumference of cables? I'd guess 1" right?

    Hi Matthew. Thanks for your video. I need to make a snake for my live keyboard setup and wondered if you have any advice on how to take the strain off of all the cables within their individual input connectors? The overall weight once you've got 6 or 8 cables will of course be strenuous long term on your sockets so I wonder if you have any recommendations? Maybe loops that can hook onto the stand someway?

      Include a velcro tie on the end, and wrap it to your keyboard stand, reducing strain.

    Thanks so much for this tip. One question though: how easy is it to swap a cable if one of the things break? You'd have to redo the who snake again wouldn't you?

    • @kg4gav
      @kg4gav 5 років тому

      its not too bad. lay out the whole snake and flatten the cables out. Cut off both heat shrinks and use the bad cable to pull in the new one. As long as the cables have not twsted themselves together over time, it is a fairly easy task.

    Fuck me, I'm a pro technician and FOH, and I've never seen videos snake in my life. WHY? I do NOT know. Also, get some used bike rubber chambers!! Indes-truc-ti-bles. Just need a lot of XLR? Get a couple 25'vers and run them through that bike tire chamber, and then heat-gun it. Done in *minutes*.
