Hello again, you two. As a member of the Nightwish Army and a HUGE Pink Floyd fan, I agree with you. This was not a cover, but a tribute from Nightwish to this legendary band. Thank you both so much for continuing to react to our beloved Nightwish live performances.
A cover performed as a tribute is still a cover.
As a life long Pink Floyd fan and have seen them several times (68 y old Dutch bloke), and a Nightwish fan since some 4 years, after hearing/seeing Floor perform in one of her first solo shows I can say: this is the ultimate tribute from an exceptional band to an exceptional band.
As an intense Pink Floyd fan, I came into this with a little skepticism. By the second listen, I fell in love with it.....great reaction!

I love just EVERY Nightwish-song - and to cover a song from one of my favorite bands is definitely a challenge! But they did it soooo good - respect for Marcos vocals and Emppus guitarwork in this one.
I´d recommend "The greatest show on earth" (Tampere or Wembley (with Richard Dawkins at the end)) as a next reaction-video. There you can hear a duet of Floor and Marco and in the song the history of the universe, earth and us is told.
But beware: This song is more than 20mins long.......but truly a masterpiece.
More a tribute than a cover. I'm sure other commentors will fill you in with the details. Good reaction too.

Haunting Keyboard....GREAT Vocals......brillant Guitar Solo...driving drums on point.....this is one of the rare Occasions where I like the Cover better then the already good original.

Not sure if you mentioned Marko but his vocal performance and the emotion in his singing stole the show
“Kiitos”… which Marko says at the end, means “Thank You” in Finnish. Obvious from the context probably, but fun to point out. You hear it from them on a bunch of their live videos when they play for a Finnish audience. Floor even says it in front of Finnish crowds, even though she’s Dutch. 😁
There is one point about this performance that is frequently overlooked. Jukka, on drums, was dealing with a migraine headache throughout the whole concert. He is truly a musical warrior. Wonderful performance. Thanks, again.

Can you provide a source for that? Not that I doubt it, but it's mentioned all the time but, after hours and hours of searching, I cannot find a single interview, in print or on video, where Gilmour mentions Nightwish or this performance. Would love to find the source of this claim.

Thank you and I agree, Emppu-guitarist got something similar going on with the David Gilmore with his guitar playing. Good point! I also think that there is something about the tone, mood and the warmness of the Emppu´s playing that are quite gilmoresque also in original NW-songs.
Eric Clark also calls him the David Gilmour of metal. ❤

A wonderful tribute to a great band from another great band! Have you seen the lights above the band? Also a tribute to PF. And in this song you can hear what a great singer Marko is - and what a great guitar player Emppu.
Haven't seen anyone mention that before. For me that always reminds of Pink Floyd, and I'm sure it is not just coincidence. :)
Great reaction guys. To me, as a Queen, Pinkfloyd and Nightwish fan, this is not a cover but an epical tribute version of this track.

I'm a big Pink Floyd fan ! My one regret is i never had a chance to see them live ! So i made it a point to see Nightwish twice and Band-Maid four times =)
My younger sibling is a HUGE Pink Floyd fan...and he loved the Tribute to Pink Floyd by Nightwish. What else is there to say.
Next song....try a very happy, fun song by Nightwish! Try "Alpenglow! Floor says in the intro...."....this song with make you utterly happy!!". One of my favorite songs of Nightwish...and you get to see Floor dancing to the song!!!
There is one other awesome cover in the "End of an Era" concert, The Phantom of the Opera. Exhilarating, do not miss it
Fun fact - Emppu plays an ESP EV-1 with Seymour Duncan pickups (TB-5 in the bridge, SHR-1n in the middle and a SH-2n in the neck) 1 in purple and 1 in white.

They have some insane covers / tributes to bands like Iron Maiden, Black Sabath, DIO and Metallica.. They have some very impressive originals aswell..
Lead singer, Melody (Melodio) Cristea, is a big Ronnie fan, and his wife requested them to play a song at the RJD cancer fundraiser, Last In Line, in a special unreleased extended version..
Floor Jansen is the queen of metal no doubt about it, and Melody is with out doubt the princess..

Explaining legato using Floor's long notes in the beginning of GLS can help as a literal example ...also glissando which can then be applied to guitar work

Tuomas wanted to tribute PF with this heavier style NW version of it and the outcome is perfect.

Thanks for your reaction, Nightwish did a great tribute to Pink Floyd. Another 'cover' that is worthwhile is The Warning's Enter Sandman (Metallica) at Teatro Metropolitan. They made it their own and a wonderful tribute to Metallica.
As an old school PF fan, I was dismissive of HH (and the album in general) but this tribute is impossible to dismiss IMO! NW "Disturbed" the hell out of it!
Imagine pouring Pink Floyd essence and then Nightwish essence into a large pot, giving it a good stir, and then warming it up, then pouring the result onto a plate...this is my metaphor for this superb tribute.

I highly recommend 'Phantom of the Opera' from this same concert. It features the first singer Tarja with her more operatic style of singing. (Just to be clear, I love both Floor and Tarja. One is more rock and the other, more classical.)
I then we see the differance between a cover when you try to sound just like the original and a Tribute when you sound similar but with your own flair. As a heads up and wink to the orininal artist whom Nightwish love very much.

My favourite Nightwish song: "the poet and the pendulum" the wembley 2016 is great. (Even tho it makes my cry everytime, because of the Story behind that song)
And also I would suggest Electric Callboy either "We got the moves" or "hypa hypa". Also their new collab with Babymetal RATATA is amazing as well.

Between the key change, Marko's vocals, and the acoustic guitar parts being swapped out for Emppu's amazing solo, Nightwish really made this version their own. Great reaction, as usual, my friends 🤗

Amazing tribute by Nightwish! What's next? Follow Gabriel's list for now but it's not mandatory. Not sure is this information was listed but here goes. Floor is 6'1" barefoot and then she has her heels on. Emppu plays an ESP guitar. He has an EV-1 and EV-2 models. (EV is for Emppu Vuorinen). Marko plays a Warwick base. He was trained in classical guitar then change to bass. He plays the bass with a pick a lot of times, I'm not sure if this is done by a lot of base players. I am not a musician. He also plays the "beast" a bass and six string combo. Jukka is crazy on the drums. Wait until the double time on the double basses. They did an 80 minute movie called "Imaginaerum". This band is in their own genre. All for now from Indianapolis.

You should give Dimash a review. His vocal range is untouched (from a B2 to D8) and sings all genres of music in a dozen languages. He probably is the best singer in all of the world.

Enjoyed your reaction. As you mentioned this is from their 2005 concert in Finland, the End of an Era DVD. Nightwish's lead singer st this time, Tarja Turunen, would often change outfits during the show and when she did the boys would play a cover song. Some other covers they played during shows include Twisted Sister's We're Not Going to Take It, Ozzy Osbourne's Crazy Train, and Megadeath's Symphony of Destruction. Of note, this was the last concert with Tarja. She was fired right after the concert via an open letter. A huge drama storm erupted and many of the fans turned on the band and especially Tuomas. He sank into a deep depression as a result resulting IMHO their greatest masterpiece, The Poet and the Pendulum. I actually like this version better then the original. For me it is that emotion and grit that Marko brings to the lyrics that elevates the performance and Emppu's guitar playing is fantastic. Again a lot of emotion in his playing.
The risk vs reward of covering a Pink Floyd song is usually a fools errand for a band, then there's Nightwish. The first time I saw this I couldn't believe what I was hearing and seeing. The only other cover I've heard that comes close to this is Disturbed version of Sound of Silence from the Conan show. Both are just stunning. BTW, this same concert has Tarja singing Nemo. As much as I like Floor and her Wachen version of Nemo I'm always drawn back the Tarja's version in End of an Era concert.

Gary Moore (ex Thin Lizzy) found an old song in the depth of the Irish folkmusic and made it a hit in the 1980's. Over the Hills and far away. Nightwish covered this song too and it is fabulous. From the same End of an Era concert, but now with Tarja on vocals.
(It was her last concert with Nightwish and she didn't know)

Well said. You called it a tribute at the end. Only song I can listen to at this concert as find the first singer (Tarja Turunen) too operatic in style. She was sacked after this concert as her husband encouraged her to behave like the star and demand preferential treatment.
