Great question. I live on the border of two states in the US (outside of Portland, OR) and so I give myself a round hour for travel over the bridge. I also schedule those interstate clients for times where there is less traffic. If I travel outside a 30 mile radius, I charge a travel+mileage fee. Lately, I've pivoted my marketing and converted about 70% of my business to virtual so I'm traveling less and working from home 🤩

Sometimes until I know what I am organizing (somewhere in the middle of going through the things) I don't know how many of certain supplies I will need...Or do you just say "a certain amount per type of room plus supplies?"
These are EXCELLENT questions. So, I typically book packages or a subscription service with my clients. I've learned through experience how ling it takes me to do certain areas, but it also depends on client participation. You can stipulate in your client agreement that the quote may adjust to accommodate the project as you progress. I have some specific strategies for this too. However, it's a lengthier discussion. Hello! It definitely depends on the situation and where they are moving. Are they downsizing or upsizing? You won't know what product the client needs until they know what they're keeping and what type of storage space they have. Generally, you should focus decluttering during the first project so you don't get stuck organizing things they end up not needing. I started my business while pregnant with #1 and had #2 20 months after #1 was born, haha. Totally understand where you're coming from. The beauty of running your own business is that you can work as much or as little as you want and work around your schedule :-)

There are lots of folks that come to the organizing industry as their second or third career! Just be mindful of the physical workload, if that is a limitation for you and offer services that you feel you can handle :-) There's lots of different service options as a professional organizer.
