- This is likely, by far, the most comprehensive guide and tutorial for how to play the Panther tank in War Thunder ANYWHERE online. I made sure to cover everything, including tips and tricks, ALL of the differences between the Panther tanks, strengths and weaknesses, roles, how to play, which modules to unlock first, how to invest crew points, and more. I go over everything so that you will have an easy time trying to learn how to play this absolute beast of a tank.

One thing to note: You should not carry more than 30rnds in the Panther A and D and 22 rounds in the Panther F and G. Keeps your side ammo racks empty and therefore you survive more shots to the side.
Works on tiger 2 h as well i take like 22 rounds on it so theres only ammo in the back of the turret

you should not carry more than 20 rounds in ANY TANKS
@@coopersly38 Unless it's the T-35, or A1-E1 Independent, In the T-35 I usually carry 13 rounds of OF-350M as the primary ammo for the KT-28, and 13 rounds of BR-350A (MD-5 fuze) for as a secondary ammo type. And for the 54 rounds of BR-240 (27 for each auxiliary turret.) Also NEVER use the KT-28 against tanks with any sort of armor unless you have to. The 20-K cannons are way better. Set keybinds for the primary, secondaries, machine guns, all at once, and then find a different use for each function, believe me the added control will save your life under almost any circumstances. Trust me, don't risk your controller, don't risk your keyboard, and most importantly, don't risk your hair. It's not worth it.
Wouldn't be a proper match on the Eastern Europe map without a massive clusterfuck of a logjam trying to cross the bridge near the spawnpoints. Surprised nobody ended up going in the river. :P
German main moment
I like how everyone says flank or stay far and away from close combat with German tanks around 6 BR. Its really great advice, especially when most of the time you have full german team and you need to capture points or you're getting small maps most of the times.
Legit, and other players get sooo mad when you dont rush straight into urban combat with half enemy team against your Tiger II

I personally wouldn’t recommend angling on the A I always find that the sides are much easier to pen for some reason. On the G and F I find it more useful.

@@Suo_kongque yep most definitely thinner but also I feel the actual angling on the sides of the Panther D and A are worse than the G and F.
if you do a small angle the side armor can be over 170mm but dont angle at a 45 degree or large angle just at a small degree
I once hear a historian refer to the panther as a mix between heavy and medium tank, basically a very early attempt at the later mbt concept; trying to combine good protection, mobility and firing power into one tank
Now they added the VK 3002 M prototype which is a fast fragile panther
Great video. Made me give the Panthers a second chance. Spaded the A and almost through with the the F. Really enjoying my time. Now with the upcoming BR rebalance I will give the G a try. The abysmal reverse really makes you think about positioning... more than in a heavy even.

I love fighting Panthers that show me even a little bit of side. The firework show is fabulous
Not as pretty as the kv2 going up like a nuke
From distances in a long range duel where you cant find cover, angle at 20 degrees and use sidescrape and wiggle your turret, it saved me many times!

Try to use your outstanding killrange to compensate for the bad turret rotation rate!
And another hint
if you can no longer shoot in random close combat, tank hits! dont give up! if you have little ammunition with you you can score a lot with tanking hits!

I recently bought tiger h1 and the first panther I can't remember which is the version and I got into battle thinking That I have the best in the fckin lobby😂, then I searched on UA-cam to find some tips on how to play these 2 tanks and i found your videos, they have helped me but I am still trying to learn these tanks better.

I LOVE the opening sequence! We drive like we are in tanks and got our license out of cracker jack box. I have to wonder what the hell we are thinking.
Can you make a guide on the allied medium tanks like M4 sherman or T-34-85 please, i struggle with them a lot because im not used to playing a tank with thin armor (compared to heavy tanks)
The Panther G is in my experience the WORST panther. The mantlet just becomes a bigger weak spot, and the "extra turret armor" is only on the turret face around the mantlet. All at a higher BR than the others. The Panther F is the best sniper due to the turret armor and reload/range finder combo, since at range against the 85 and 76mm it is immune. The Panther A is the best aggressive panther and that mantlet can be trolly against even big guns. The Panther 2 is also a great aggressive tank but is let down by the turret traverse and turret armor is pretty easy to penetrate at the BR.
And remember kids, if you like sniping, grab the Panther F with inbuilt rangefinder
The panther F is max absolute favourite tank, my goodness I love it so much
I got 15 kills in realistic with out dying.

Great stuff, Tank. Currently I'm playing 4.7 BR but will be researching my first Panther next. I'm not looking forward to playing an un-upgraded Panther but it has to be done. Good advice about not thinking your Panther is invulnerable. I will try to keep this in mind.

@@MotivatedVergil111 Yes, I did. Have all of the Panthers now and fully upgraded. Great tanks but rarely play them. Normally playing lower BRs for fun.

Being a british main i forget that the panther doesn't actually have a reverse gear, because S is my least pressed movement key due to playstyle and experience with things like the cromwell, love the tiger 1 tho

The one thing I’ll say is I tend to carry a max of 16 shells. Iv found that’s usually plenty and it gets rid of most of your ammo racks. Just defend points for a bit if you need to reload ammo

@@Morgensztern12You can carry more 25 is Max. After that ammo gets stored in the side, which just sucks.
I carry 18 shells, playing RB and i don’t use much more in one battle. If i get empty i smoke and bail out to the closet cap.
I struggle a lot with the Panther D and VK3002. The VK is nice because it’s pretty fast, but the cannon on both tanks feels very anemic. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve side-shot the turret or under the tracks on an IS or M6 only to get smoked 5 seconds later when said tank traverses and shoots me before I can reload. And at 5.3, virtually every Russian tank and decent number of American tanks can easily front pen the glacial and turret.

Really? Recommendable! In WoT they are reduced to a weird sniper role which just doesnt fit the game with its limited view range

Usually, in the 75mm gun vehicles [my main experience is with the Panzer IV], about 30-35 are more than enough, even too much in most battles.
Nice guide :D but I'm having a hard time deciding on what tank I want to research first either the tiger h1 or the VK 30.02 M (prototype panther)
Tiger is good but I would go with the VK, it is faster then the other panthers and a good gun, only down side is less armor but won’t matter if you stay long range.

After you've cut ammo, do and xray and see the placement... most in the side sponson is on the driver's side, will two rds by the driver's head. I pointed this out on forum some time ago, last time I check there was no answer to obvious question: Who would be stupid enough to do that? It just ensures if you get penned behind the radio operator or driver you have ammo explode... ooooh, gained so much cutting ammo, right?
Why do F and II panther are best armored? They removed very useful gun manlet, that was overlapping with front turret plate, increasing armor two times and bugging shells.
they should bring the panther 2 back, left a hole in the tree or add the E series

the Panther 2 never should use the long 88. Right after the Panther D was rolled out, the russian anti tank rifle could go through its side. So they decided to stronger its armour and creating the Panther 2 which should replace the Panther 1. However, with adding sideskirts to the panther 1 his problem was solved with way less costs and so they cancel the panther 2.

i was killed by a BT-5 in my first game in the panther D. i didnt think he could pen my sides so i went for the IS-2. i killed the IS-2 but got racked by the BT-5 (not sure how, didnt think 45 mm had enough explosive filler to set off my ammo)
It doesn't matter if it has explosive filler or not.
The ammo can get set off if enough damage is done to it

I wish they put the Panther f at 6.0 and moved the G to 5.7. I love the look of the G but it doesn't justify moving my whole lineup to 6.0. Additionally, the F had a rangefinder 🤔

Can't stereotype like that. I would say that I'm pretty decent at the game. Many german mains are very good. If you think that this is correct to stereotype, I could pull up clips of any nation player being dumb, or just not noticing something obvious.

I disagree on the F model having a better turret. It has a massive flat turret face on both sides of the gun that is easily penned by something like a stabilized 76mm Sherman, let alone any higher calibre like a Russian 85mm or US 90mm. Whereas with the A or G variant the gun mantlet that spans the majority of the turret face is a trolly piece of *** that will most likely volumetrically eat a 76mm shell, and leave you unscathed.
30 rounds? I usually run for the 25 to 22 round with 20 or the normal and 2 of heat for overpressure.

forgot some weaknesses: no reverse gear, very low HE filler in shell, often leaving enemies alive if only hit in turret, bad turret traverse and elevation speed, bad roof armor, dying to 50 cal and 20mm planes,
i carry 17 shells so the ammo explosion never concerns me
I only take 15-20 rounds in any tank I usually play so my turret doesn’t go to the store to buy milk

11:54 28gm of explosive is super weak at this BR with very poor post penetration damage. At similar BR the Tiger I does significantly more post penetration damage. Even the PV IV E/F1 has 100gm !

VK.3002 is a prototype panther, and its a direct slight downgrade to the Panther D
I would like to point out if you're at 5.3 germany and the only panther you have is the D variant, you will be uptiered to 6.3+ NO EXCEPTIONS. So all the advice he gives in this video regarding how to play in uptiers must be adhered to. You cant play at 5.3 germany at 5.3. It will always always always send you on up to 6.3. Ive had the panther D for weeks and have yet to get matched at 5.3 or lower. Its always 6.3.
Phew, I thought I was the only one 😭. It’s so annoying to just get constant IS2’s yeeted against your tank. Same goes for Jumbo’s although easier to kill.
