Modify Technics 1200 to make DJ mixing smoother

- Some DJs call this “cutting the quartz lock” to modify your Technics 1200 turntables, but there’s an Internet debate as to whether that’s the right term for it. Regardless, this tutorial will show you why it’s necessary for house music DJs (or any DJ for that matter) who like to blend two records together in a smooth mixing style to cut TP17 resistor and the orange wire connected to the pitch control so that the platter does not fight you when you touch it. I learned this technique in the early 90s and applied it to every turntable I’ve mixed on to get a much smoother mix so that when you touch the platter, it doesn’t try to fight you and jump back to its locked point. That’s why they call it cutting the quartz lock, even though that may not be exactly what you’re doing.
