Just some in car footage and fooling around with the 408. 3rd Gear burnouts are always a good time! Here is a link to the build thread: www.svtperforma...
Very respectful power NA, but with M1 fuel a man could threw every dab of boost at her and just made more power simply adding pounds and pounds of boost on M1... I may actually try a setup like that with a nice BIG turbo. For all that matter a fella should be able to run even more compression with a turbo and all the boost on alcohol.
@@stevenminix This is the first I've heard of anybody who wants high-compression in a forced-induction car. It defeats the purpose. All the extra air being slammed into the cylinders need a reduction in compression. Too much explosion, and boom! Something terrible happens.
Great thing about laying rubber at 0:32 is it's done all on motor. Both tires. No braking. No power adder. Just BB sized cubes, good airflow, higher street compression, and skinny pedal to the floor. This is why old school big block muscle cars were/are so loved in America!
You could run 89 octane if the compression was a bit less but I run 94. The 408 is made from a 351 windsor block bored .030 with a 4" stroke crankshaft.
@@Lonnielove803 What he has going is going to be spendy. IF you want a Windsor stroker it’s technically, a little over the cost of a rebuild. You just have to ensure all parts will be happy together.
Nice setup. I loved my 351 Foxbody, fun to drive, tons of torque. It was a Holley Carb setup which I loved. But I think EFI is just so far advanced now that you're crazy if you don't run it. Espeically if you get good at tuning and learn. But I love your car, man. Good luck with it.
Thanks! The car has bbk 1 3/4 longtubes (probably a bit small for the motor but thats all I could fit), a custom 3" x-pipe, and 3" flowmasters with 3" mac tailpipes.
@CoqLateralLimit, I agree. I know I did some research on it and considering the light nature of the car a 408W stroker is doable but 400hp is about the max rear wheel hp you can run. So I was looking at a 425hp 347 stroker which should be good. The camshaft is a custom grind from Comp, they modified a Xtreme energy hyd roller for 2000-6000 rpm range from 110* LSA to 112* LSA for more vacuum for use with fuel injection. I hope I can get atleast 12mpg city and 20mpg highway.
I use to build turbo low ten second street vw .s and do that and pull the wheel on the street never again on the street all most took out three cars make the power put it on the track before your luck runs out be safe. great ride good build.
Impressive mile per hour! with that kind of MPH you should be in the 10.6 to 10.5 quarter mile et! need to get that 60 ft time into the low 1.4 second range and you will be in the 10.60s for sure! very nice ride well done!
BEST EXHAUST SOUND I'VE HEARD!! Car sounds and runs great, which flowmasters are you running, and what software did you tune it with, building a 427 for my SN95 and could use some good info!! THX!
94. You can Google VP or Sunoco octane to compression ratios. It'll give you a list of what are good comp ratios to run with pump gas. I believe 93 is good for 11-12:1 cr though.
Nice notch! Got a tigh lash solid roller in my 93gt, pump gas afr205s with victor jr with a pro systems 950. Drive it every day its nice out.. besides the can at idle runs n drives like a stock fox. N/A it went 10.64 @ 126 drivibg it to the track lol. Search stroker mustang vs. Nitrous camaro. Thats me
@bocastongum Yes I did last year with a different 408. Back when I dynoed it, it was only 9.5 to 1 with a small hydraulic cam. This year it's 11.5 to 1 with a solid roller. Were you there at the time?
you can use a a mid 22x intake duration with about 8 degrees overlap and 8 degree split, that the shorter intake will bring torque in sooner but the overlap will stil help scavenge and if you tighten up the LSA you can use the tight LSA and exhaust timing to push power out farther into the rev range. What you get is a car that sounds like a big cam car, makes early torque like a medium sized cam and makes big cam late power too. Again this on the long runner ls stuff, just what I have found.
I have a question about your header gasket. Victor Jr. heads have square ports and the primary's on the header I see on your blog have oval (as most do) which gasket did you use, square or oval? I'm wondering because I have a windsor ported heads with oval headers and they have leaked, so far they are good with copper gasket maker. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
@ Poco Jang - CoqLateralLimit thought of some other things to ask haha, what combination of pistons/head did you use to reach 11.5:1 compression? 60cc vic jrs or 70cc vic jrs? and pistons were what type? thanks Sean
They were a 60cc head. It was hard to find pistons for that CR, usually for the 408s they were either low (in the 9s) or too high (in the high 12s). I went with a keith black forged ( their best model), as they offered around a 5cc dish if I remember correctly. This put it right in the 11s, good for pump gas. This was about 5 years ago now so not sure if they still have a similar one.
@theantinignog No I ran around 30 degrees total timing (so about 4 more than stock total) and probably could have run a bit more as the timing mark on the spark plug was still decent.
Just an oppinion, but when you sstart adding more durration to get that extra power and higher RPM, you loose area under the curve and the cam becomes peaky and high. In a primarily driven street car most people would care more about a solid power and torque number in the driving window than a high and showy number so far up the rev range that is makes the car less fun to drive and actually slower in practical use. That is why i would choose a milder cam like this for a street car.
It has a 408 on it, plus i'm sure it has a few bolt ons atleast, I can almost promise you hes putting down a mean 425-475 at the wheels, and massive torque.
What kind of exhaust system are you using and what mufflers! I'm doing an AFR headed 408 in my 1990 fox! thats a sweet machine and the sound gives me goosebumps.
Robert Touchstone you must was a girl in your previous life lol. This car sounds amazing so good that you and me are still making it relevant after almost 10 YEARS LATER!!!! Omg 😲 I love this car if I was a truck I’d marry her😍

Great Car, thanks for the video one of the best on youtube with a 408! I am building a 408 for my 90 Fox, what cam are you running and what octaine fuel are you using with 11.5 to 1 comp.?
very nice car. I have just one question and not as a jerk. but in that burn out witch was very cool. with a stick shift how come there are no skips inbetween shifts ? and again not being a jerk.
How did you get that exhaust sound? I jabe a 1984 camaro and Im looking to get that sort of v8 sound mine goes aaway at the higher rpms and just sounds like a whine... take the muffler off? thanks

@Poco Jang Where can is get ahold of you to ask about your fuel system set up for the 408 motor? Building a very similar set up and curious as to what you there.
Hey there, the fuel system setup on this car was actually quite simple. The car had a 255 in tank pump, with stock fuel lines. Then, the fuel lines were adapted to AN ( braided) fittings where they end in the engine bay. It then had a set of edelbrock fuel rails, with an aeromotive regulator hidden lower down on the engine. It was not a y-blocked setup, just a simple feed, into each rail, then into the regulator. 42# injectors were then used. Let me know with any other questions!
Why only 6800? Cam seems like it would go higher than that, you've got the intake and valvetrain to support it. What is the lobe separation angle? Maybe the 5.0 and SBF stuff cam's different. But it seems like if the ports are good enough then it would continue to make power.
Sounds great. 1 quick question what kind of miliage you get out of that engine with EFI in city and highway? I recently settled on going with a 10:1 compression 408 stroker myself rated at 500hp or so with either EFI Stack system (if its not too expensive) or the ProFlo2. But economy is what I am wondering about. As far as what vehicle its going into if curious, I will be dropping it in a 2,500 lb FFR Coupe with a TKO600 0.64:1 od and 3.55:1 truetrac Tbird IRS out back.
IMO, 3.73:1 gears make the car with an engine like that a little too squirrely. I'm a top-end guy, and would love to see that thing go with a different ratio.
No blower, no turbo, no bottle......just pure pushrod Ford torque!!
The best.
I woulda ran that high compression motor with a turbo and on M1 fuel (alcohol)......
Very respectful power NA, but with M1 fuel a man could threw every dab of boost at her and just made more power simply adding pounds and pounds of boost on M1...
