I've had a Green Island for about 35 years that looks like a banyan tree with a huge trunk and aerial roots but I've never had to perform surgery such as this!

Goddamn it Peter for US PRESIDENT. Happy birthday, sir. Thank you for distracting me from a super stressful career sometimes and giving me a calming outlet allowing me to fall asleep sometimes, watching someone who loves what they do. That you can thrive and prosper on a passion was a news article until I observed you. I would love to bonsai. But it's a fantasy. Too much work. I learned more about what I DON'T want observing you. I'm a little happier because of your videos. And I'm not ashamed to overwork in my profession. We all have a place.

While it's out of the pot, I like to soak the pot in vinegar (or soak paper towels). It will start dissolving the scale.

Its a Ficus Microcarpa, generally used as root stock for grafted bonsai. 😊

Have you used white vinegar to soak such pots, and dissolve the “hard water” residue?
Any type of acid works and so does vinegar.
can I ask why didn't you cut the black root and allow new roots come out?
