I'd like to add that the balcony door was functional at some point a long time ago in the game but its functionality was removed because it caused too many issues when trying to enter or exit the house from somewhere other than the front door.
I've been explaining furniture density and slot to size ratios for years in FFXIV. Thank you for providing a visual source to which I can point people when I am teaching them basic designing. I would highly recommend editing that mistake you made with the balcony door, as it is WELL known and bemoaned by the housing community as a nonfunctional fixture that gets in the way.
from everything i've seen, both working on and visiting the Large houses, its like they are designed for you to wall part of it off. theres no need to try to use every room of a mansion and generally makes it look empty. walling a portion of it off increases your furnishing options, and also lets you shape the house the way you want, creating designs that make it feel like not every house has the exact same floorplan, even though they do. this is also made painfully obvious in the large, as not walling it off anywhere makes the entryway of every single large look "samey" thanks to the massive dual staircase taking up a ton of space as the main focus of the ground floor.
I dont like the looks of large, at all! Way too much open space, with the big stairs in the middle. It looks more like a MSQ NPC house than something to "live" in. Medium is perfect, you have little nooks and crannies you can fill out.
Thanks for making this detailed video my guy. Awesome job. I'm in Heavensward, and I finally got to buy an apartment. Looking forward to the day I can afford a cottage.
The sad thing about larges is you get all this space but you cant even use it because there's a limited number of furnishings you can place. So most people i see who have larges literally block sizeable parts of it off because they couldnt decorate those areas even if they wanted to. I JUST bought a small recently and I kind of already want to upgrade to a medium, but they're hard to come by and i need to raise more money before i can do that xD
@@Gamemaster-64 Apparently they will open up the FC zones to private bidders eventually. But... I would still be surprised the FCs havent claimed them all. The real hope will probably be demolition.
To be fair if you understand how to use furniture and understand how to arrange allot of the space in small can be unitlized in ways that can shock and amaze. I see large amount of people hand out in small due to the position of furniture and how they set it up.
Thanks for providing floor plans all in one place. Thinking in terms of blocks is helpful and straightforward. But even casual and new home owners can make good use of what you call sub optimal blocks with a little experimentation. Even a small can be made spacious or cosy, simple or complex depending on what you do with it, and with minimal glitching if you don't want to get into that, although really it's not that complicated. The complicated part is figuring out a design, a plan that you want to live with since despite all the limitations, columns, windows, and doorways, these houses are almost blank slates.
The furniture number you came up with is interesting but if you know how to utilize the space given and know how to glitch housing items you can make the illusion of more or less space. Most designers that know how to glitch very well can also use those pathway blocks to great effect without restricting your movement and going in and out of the house. Sure like you said you can’t just put anything in those areas you gotta do a little bit of playing around and some research. People that are lucky enough to even get a house and design one can be quite the under taking.
oh for sure. professional house designers will make gold out of anything, furniture glitching is an option for sure but not one I really wanted to mention since its kinda sorta not allowed(?) That being said, even with glitching, you generally have more freedom in a square without walls since even if you glitch walls into existence, you can't take away the base walls from the house itself.
@@Munbalance glitching is allowed. The devs have said in live letters they are not touching our housing glitches and that they are fascinated with the creativity that comes out of those glitches. Owning a large house myself; i'd say the Medium house is the most beginner friendly in terms of build possibilities. The mansion can be incredibly daunting. And the placement of the pillers doesnt help
First video I’ve seen with this kind of breakdown. Great analysis! Also I wanted to point out that small houses are actually called Cottages, not Cabins.
It's nice to see you in FFXIV. as much as i love RO (i started back in 2004) its just something i cant ocme back to but i did play on the pserver you advertised last year but yep FFXIV is a different beast on its own~
don't forget that one can technically "cheat" the amount of spaces one can have in housing places, with glitches that actually & officially introduces the thing called "lofts", which wholly expands beyond one's imaginations. Or on a more crazier imaginations, the spaces could expand beyond the four sided walls.😆
Can you have private chambers in each of the personal houses? Not the FC ones. Me and my friend want to go halfers for a house, but want to know if we can each have our own room
You can't get personal housing rooms like the fcs but... you can do it like this. One of you buys the house and you can grant access to another player for your house. Me and my husband do this, I bought a large and gave him access so he can move, change, add or remove things and he can use everything placed within the house :) it will also appear on their teleport list the same as your fc house does.
Wow! You did good job! Too bad I only found this now. I would have used these drawings earlier, but I have already finished work on my private house and free company house too. But thank you for this video! Upd. Oh, it would be great to also indicate the location of light sources (chandeliers, windows). Then it would be generally the most useful drawings in the world :D
Apartments are great if you are mainly looking for storage, because even if you don't sub for a while all of your stuff sticks! In housing, if you do not enter your house for 45 days it will be auctioned off!
the 'balcony' door in a large isn't functional.
Thanks for confirming this!
@@Munbalance You're very welcome :)
You can glitch a way to jump to the balcony, but the fact you can’t open that door is criminal.
@@laughingseagull000 True that. I need to make more vids about roof, balcony, and under house access for the various skins and sizes.

Great video, exactly what I was looking for. Proved to me that the Large "Mansion" is cool, but only 400 furnishing slots is a crime XD

I tried getting a M but lost.every lotto. I think the last lotto was the final as.doubt there be any more left beside any in fc only areas.

very useful, thanks!
The furniture density would be much better if House was bumped up to 400 items and a Mansion up to 800 items.

personal chambers are exclusive to free company housing as far as I know

Nice video, very well put together. But you cannot exit the balcony door of the large house, only the front door on the ground floor.
yeah the balcony door is fake :(
I could've sworn an appartment was 400k....
I went with the house over the mansion, there just isn't enough slots for the mansion. No matter how I furnished it, it always seemed empty.

Unlikely, the early game is bleh and the endgame is really abusive monetization wise
