hiya m/m,just watched your total service of sp 470,awesome really,really long but so informative,first one I had I gave to my son,boy has it been used and abused,ps,by him,I’ve also got one,I really try to look after it,after watching your vid it was so precise I reckon I could take an engine out,the problem with mine is the two hex bolts on each side that hold the handle to the chassis,problem is doesn’t matter how much I tighten them the handle always moves between the bolts,handle and chassis,in other words at the control end of the handle it probably slops about a couple of inches,obviously problem is were it’s attached to the chassis,hope you can help,kind regards Derek…
apparently the one I have borrowed , has on it, don't tip it on its side, so how am I able to take off the blade to sharpen it. It says tip backwards. But doing that there isn't enough clearance to get at the blade.

Ok so I bought a SP470 that the belt had slipped off. I put the belt back on and it ran ok for a few mins then I decided to turn it off. Ever since then it doesn’t have any real resistance on the pull start, I’ve even left it a few hours but still the same, it pulls out and retracts back just no pressure build up. Surely it can’t have compression one minute and then none the next. Any ideas what this could be mowerman? 🤔

Hi I have a SP480T which surges like crazy. Ive changed the carb, fitted a new diaphragm, tensioned the springs still massive surging
I'm running it without the blade as I need a new blade boss adapter. Could that be the cause ?
I believe the part is Mountfield Sp470 Blade Boss Hub 81003381/0 381003381/0 but they are obsolete apparently. You don't have one by any chance ?
I removed the blade from my other Mountfield and it began surging too !

My eyes are going. What holds the cover on? I have one hole at the back of the cover it looks like an Allen key hex but I can't seem to get one that fits or is it a special tool required?

That's the wrong boss for the mower as your mower has a drive belt, the boss for your mower will have the pulley casted into the boss. The original boss you pulled out of your drawer is off a mountfield 1530 model ride on mower or the smaller cheaper push mountfields.
