We were about to throw out our 4 year old fridge and spend 1700$ to replace it because the water was filling the drawers and leaking on the floor. $22 for the part and about 45 minutes to fix and we are in business. Amazing. My only suggestion is to remove the cover in the rear to expose the evaporator pan so you can see that is totally defrosted and the water is running all the way through. Thanks for your video. My french door fridge is now 12 years old, I contacted samsung a couple of times when this started and they said that they haven't had any reports of this problem. After about 4 years my crisper drawers have not been used. I empty them of water probably 4 times a year. Today (Sept 19 2021) I noticed that the right hand door wouldn't close tightly. After taking a very close look at it I noticed the door storage compartment was hitting the center shelf. I removed the shelf, then saw that the back panel was being pushed out by the ice backing up above the drain forcing out the shelf. I'm surprised that samsung haven't issued a bulletin regarding this problem. I guess I should have kept asking. I will order this part hoping it fixes the issue. Now that I know why my door wasn't closing, it explains the cracking and banging its been doing the last few months. Even appliances complain when things aren't working right.

Good video! I was able to complete my repair by following it. The only thing I would add is to make sure you pull the fridge out and vacuum dust off the condenser coils underneath. You will also be able to see the evaporation pan that the condensate drips into. Having someone pour a little water into the drain hole will tell you the drain line is completely clear of ice.
I have had to de-ice mine a few time now.will buy the new part and hopefully fix it once and for all!. Top tip, I used isopropyl alcohol and put it down the iced up drain hole.made the ice melt a lot quicker!
Took a couple 4” pieces of copper solid core 20g wire, wrapped them around defrost heater tube on either side of original drain heater piece, extending into drain hole...moved sensor from input to output side...so far it’s working just fine! Thanks for this excellent video.
Thanks for this info. I have a RS277ACPN and the refrig was full of ice build up and the fan wouldn't spin. After taking all the panel I was surprised there heating clip at all and the drain hole had a grill so wasn't even possible to have a clip. I had ordered the clips ahead of time after watching some other videos. This video provided the great idea of using a turkey baster and warm water. Thanks!!!
I watched yours and another gentleman's before start of the work, you guys are great! Thank you. Especially showing the replacement part, so I don't have to open it up twice.
Thanks for your most useful video. I first watched it a few months back, ordered the new part, put it in a drawer and hoped the problem would work itself out. I'm happy to report that upon much prodding and badgering, I finally did the job. So far so good. Thanks again.
Thanks for the information. Boiled water in microwave and poured it in the drain and sucked it out using a Turkey Flavor Injector with a 4” needle. With this and a hair dryer it drain quickly. Thanks!
UPDATE: Installed the updated part yesterday (from Amazon) Getting that old clip off is a bit of a hassle, I used a needle nose plier to wiggle an edge back and forth until it tore. Suggestion - I put a corner of a plastic grocery bag under the old piece to catch any metal scraps that broke off so they wouldn't fall into the drain. Also, even with a dryer and fan pointing inside, and pouring in hot water, the actual drain took about 5 hours to thaw .... so put your food in another fridge if you have one, or for sure an ice chest .. Wow!... excellent detail. And you are the first one that I watched that actually showed the replacement part number... Just ordered, and my next project asap when it arrived!
Thanks for the info! I checked the comments to see how long I would need to have my food out of the fridge for the thaw process, so thank you for adding that in there. I'm glad this is a simple repair and not something more serious. Cheers!
@@dapper.moto85 good luck!.. and a recent update! Had a friend staying here that turned down the fridge a couple degrees below recommended. Well, DAMN - it froze up again. @@MiltonMiamiREBroker I think we just ordered it from a samsung fridge parts store BUT the fix didn't work, we still have a water leakage underneath the drawers. Maybe we didn't let the fridge sit long enough
Thank you so much for doing this video and saving my fridge. The repair took me a total of 2 hours and I didn’t have to unplug the fridge and I left the freezer full. I think the difference is that I was using a long flexible plastic tube I got off my kegerator to suck the water out, then replacing it with boiling water every 5 minutes. The tube was also strong enough that physically jamming it in there broke the ice up a bit and I think that’s why I was able to get it done so much faster than some of the other people who have tried it
Very helpful, though I'm not sure I will be able to pull this off myself. I will order the clip, however, and hopefully, find an 'assistant' to help. Thanks very much for your help!
Thank you for the very good explanation. I had the same prtoblem with my Samsung refrigerator y have dismantled it as shown and the cause was obvious. I found the new heater plate at Repair Clinic!. Thanks again!
I just found out from watching another video that there is a defrost mode. I am in the process of doing it right now. Below is the post: "Hold the power freeze and fridge buttons for 8 seconds, use the fridge button to navigate to power defrost - on mine, it’s denoted as rd (for refrigerator defrost, I believe). This will turn the cooling-off and heat the coils for 20 minutes before going back to normal. It will beep while it’s in this mode, so don’t worry about that. I did this last night and this morning the fridge is quiet as a kitten"
pretty bad when you call samsung and they dont even tell you this just say empty it out and unplug it for 5 hrs while theres 3 lil ones running round screaming in the background..what model do you have?
Brilliant video and explanation of scope of work involved, as an engineer I decided to sort this myself and now will do. The description of ice holding the panel certainly helps so I will under take this and save $150
So Samsung gives only a year warranty. Had trouble with the ice maker twice. Kept freezing up. Finally we got that replaced! Now problem with this leak you show. So had a service guy come out twice, & changed the Twin Cooling system panel 2x. Never addressed the problem you are showing us. Figuring they must have corrected it by now. But no. As of 5/2019 still having a small leak. This is unbelievable that consumers have to go through this! We are under a warranty company...so calling the guy to come back again. They really need to refund us, or have a recall on all their lousy fridges, if they don't get this problem solved! Thanks for your very informative video! 👍🏼
512diane well guess what, we had our fridge fixed 3x for ice freezing up in 6 years of owning it and it still does it at year number 7!! Now it’s leaking water that stinks like rotten meat into my drawers which in turn is ruining my food every 4 months. BS.
YES! Thank you, I'm so glad I found your video again! We've had this problem for about a year just dealing with it, but finally thawed the fridge as a 1st attempt with no success. Going to need the clip but glad it's out there, thanks again!!
Be prepared to wait for the part though. I just waited 7 weeks for delivery from the mfr. and came back to refresh my memory on what to do. Wish me luck. The other video I saw recommended replacing the drainage tubes on the back of the fridge so we ordered the entire kit but may try just replacing the clip first and see how that goes for a while. Our fridge is pretty well wedged into its cabinet so I'll not be thrilled if I have to pull the whole fridge out to change out the tubes. Does anyone know if that's necessary in addition to the clip??
Thanks! We are looking at buying a Samsung Refrigerator and researched and read all the repair problems. Crazy that Samsung doesn't ship these with these fixes when it's new! My take away is put this fix and the one with snipping the rubber drains in the back from another video BEFORE you plug it in and set up your new, Expensive refrigerator. Frustrating to say the least but may "prevent" the problem in the first place!
After having a Samsung washer only last 4 1/2 years and this refrigerator developing problems, I would say to NOT buy Samsung. Junk. Good TVs maybe, but they won't get anymore of my money.
@@gradysanner1713 I agree. The worst dryer in the world and I'm here right now because of the water drainage issue with the refrigerator. NEVER again will I buy anything from Samsung except a TV.
Thanks! Had the same idea with the Turkey baster. Took a while to get it fully unclogged but got it. Used a wire to check were the clog was. Had to trim the new metal piece a bit to fit in mine.
Well, I just finished implementing this fix, and am waiting for the fridge to cool down again. It is at the (east) coast in a very humid environment, and we've had water and ice in the hydrator drawers and underneath from the first week. Fingers crossed... (and thank you -- we have the exact same model so your pictures were a perfect match for my fridge).
Use a turkey injector and you can thaw the tube in less than 60 seconds. You need to be gentle because the drain tube is plastic and our injector has a metal tip. Suck up the hot water into the injector, then expel it and suck it back in, repeat. I changed the water after about 3 cycles. I just microwaved about 2/3 a cup of water. Great video and thanks for tip on the replacement part. Wish I had watched this one first!
Thanks for helping me fix this annoying problem with my fridge. Your video was so awesome. I only wish you had showed the cutting off of that old lame metal piece, but I figured it out. I appreciate you so much!!

Performed the repair just as you had instructed. I had no Ice build up in the collecting try or in my tube. We will see if this cures my issue with water leaking into my crisper drawer.
Great video which helped me quickly find the part and fix the problem in about 1.5 hours for $10. Note that hot water wouldn't go through the drain hole so I had to remote the lower back panel to check the fridge drain tube located in the right corner to find-out that it was clogged with slime. I removed, cleaned and replace the drain tube which may have been the source of the problem. I notice a similar earlier comment and would recommend that you also check and clean the drain tube. Thanks.
Glad I didn't try to take the insides of the fridge apart. The problem was the drain tube that was blocked at the bottom. So access through the lower back panel. Removed and cleaned the three drain tubes. One of them was full of water. Took the opportunity to vacuum out all the fuff.
@@peterwhiting6303 did that fix your drain problem? My fridge is 14 years old and I wonder if I should try to fix it, I’m a widow & would have to do it myself; no I dont overload my refrigerator. The crisper drawer had water. Lately the water is going UNDER the crisper drawer.
@@A10TOES The problem in my fridge was that the bottom of one of the drain tubes was blocked with dirt. So with the power off I removed the back cover at the bottom of the fridge. This enabled me to access the bottom of the drain tubes. 3 in my fridge. The tubes deposit any water onto a tray above the compressor from which it evaporates. As I lifted the bottom of one of the tubes the tube emptied itself. Quite simple. No cost. The problem described in this video of tubes being blocked with ice is real however.. @@peterwhiting6303 thanks for replying Peter. I think I will check the back of the refrigerator & look at those drain tubes first, sounds easier to fix. If they aren’t clogged, then I’ll know it’s the inside ice built up. At least I will know what I’m dealing with. Thank you!

I am not going to rehash the details provided in the other reviews and in several very helpful you-tube videos. I did have a simple fix which did solve the problem in my case. When I removed the evap cover I was pleasantly surprised to find no icing. I went ahead and replaced the drainage tubes and the evap drain clip. Samsung A/S Assembly-Water Leakage N DA82-01415A has all the parts for less than $25.00 from Amazon. The plate behind the evap coil did not want to come off easily so I left it on rather than risk breaking something. Since icing was not my problem I wasn't too concerned about the insulating strips. What I did find was corrosion on the steel back of the evap cover. The cover has a flange on the bottom that directs condensation into the condensation drain. The flange had corroded to the point that condensation was leaking down the back of the refrig and into the compartment. That explained the rusty stains on the back of the refrig compartment. I cleaned the plate as best I could and dried it thoroughly with a hair dryer. Then I covered the corroded area with self adhesive aluminum tape, making sure to remake the flange. Be sure to press the tape down thoroughly. I did this 2 weeks ago and checked for moisture today. To my great relief the compartment is bone dry. Hope this helps.
@@PatriotMarine The corrosion on the metal plate on the back of the Evap cover did get worse so I got a new Evap cover from Amazon ( Samsung DA97-11772B Assy Cover Evap-Ref ) on 11/23/2020. Very easy to install and no problems since then (knock on wood).

I'm fixing to try wrapping some 18 guage copper wire, I picked up at Home Depot, next to the existing ice defroster clip and hoping it transfers enough heat to work. Thx for sharing this video👍
@willkeen5010 I wound up just ordering the part off of Amazon. It's a simple fix and costs less than $10 if I recall correctly. The replacement off of Amazon is bigger and longer than the existing one. Therefore, it transfers more heat. 👍
I did this last night but my whole unit was iced over. I’m sure not everyone has one but I used my steamer and it worked great. Blow dryer worked too but steamer was way faster
I looked at other video and thought my sensor was bad, changed it out and didn't fix the problem. Saw another video where the guy just hung a copper wire long enough to reach the bottom of the well. I did that and the problem was gone. Looks like the "newer design replacement" is the official way to go :) thanks for posting.
Just FYI - I was completely unable to cut the old metal tab off using a standard wire cutter as shown in this video. I tried everything from Channelock cable cutters to Hakko flush cutters, all to no avail. I finally resorted to using a pair of miniature bolt cutters, which worked like a charm. Only the bolt cutters were able to bite into the metal tab at a high enough point (i.e. around the rivet) without putting too much stress on the heating element.
Yea I have a different model design different I didn’t have water in. Crisper Just wouldn’t cool Fixed that by another method. It good to see this also.
Thanks for this! Just fixed mine that was doing the same thing. Took longer to take everything out and put it all back than it did to actually fix it 🤣
Fixed is a big word it's like a prayer , for me only time will say I get the ice build up only once a year ! the one part that should be changes also is the two drain tube in the back the poorly designed rubber valves dry up and keep the cold water trap in the downstream tubes going to the evaporator receptacle the DA97-04049D part number you need two of these cheap to change why not !
Hi, thanks for the video. I’ve been struggling With this for a few years. I found that there is a drop tube at the back of the refrigerator that is white. Inside is a little valve that lets water down but stops insects/ warm air from going up. Algae had grown on it and it was stuck closed. The water was backing up all the way to the coils. It was an easy fix once I pulled it out.
Need the top to stop freezing up. Look more on UA-cam there is a repair kit I just installed and I turned off the ice maker. Best of luck- these are pieces of junk
Can you tell me the part # of this clip you fitted to the heating element please As I live in Australia and we may not be able to get the same parts as you in the USA
I just spent about 2 hours clearing and melting all the drains and clearing debris at the bottom, and still noticing a little more under the drawer. Anything else that could affect it?
is it bad for the refrigerator to set it on a timer and turn it off for 3 hours at night? That was my temporary solution until I found your video with the part that can be the permanent fix. Thank you for this video and also the link to the part. Been having problems with exactly the same thing.
Hi Paul. I can't say we'd recommend ever shutting off the power regularly to the fridge just in terms of food safety. If the temps in your fridge and freezer fluctuate up, your food quality / safety is at risk. I'd suggest you fix or have a pro fix your fridge (permanently) rather than a workaround. Good luck!
Before disassembling the inside of the fridge, first check if the drain is blocked at the other end, which is readily accessible by removing the back cover plate. It was in my case.
@@baileytschetter7348 no, its in the back of the fridge, right hand side close to floor level looking from back You need to pull the fridge out from the wall to get to it. Is a flexible rubber hose.
This will be the second time in less than six months I have had to do this repair. I think part of the problem, aside from the inadequate heat sink fin, is overloading the fridge. Since the COVID19 pandemic, I have been trying to buy enough food to last for more than a few days in order to curtail frequent trips to the grocery store. I think this prevents adequate airflow in the refrigerator part of the unit. I don’t think I can replace the fin as it sits well down into the drain hole and the heat coil it attaches to is bent into much more of a “V” than you show in your’s and is immovable. I’m going try to pay closer attention to how much I put in it to see if better air flow curtails this from happening so frequently. While it’s a fairly easy fix, it’s kind of a pain in the ass. I stopped using the veggie bins and waited until the fridge was mostly empty before doing the repair AGAIN. This video is a Godsend. Thank you so much. BTW, be very careful if using a hair dryer. It has distorted the plastic on the back wall and melted the styrofoam a little on the inside of the panel.

Great help. Our metal clip was not even in the hole, that's why we froze....we will get a better clip....thank you!
Excellent! Glad you figured it out and that our video helped you pinpoint the problem!
Took a couple 4” pieces of copper solid core 20g wire, wrapped them around defrost heater tube on either side of original drain heater piece, extending into drain hole...moved sensor from input to output side...so far it’s working just fine! Thanks for this excellent video.
Glad to hear you found a solution that is working well for you (and that the video was helpful). Thanks for the comments Shrimp Tunes!
Your fix still working well?
Thanks for this info. I have a RS277ACPN and the refrig was full of ice build up and the fan wouldn't spin. After taking all the panel I was surprised there heating clip at all and the drain hole had a grill so wasn't even possible to have a clip. I had ordered the clips ahead of time after watching some other videos. This video provided the great idea of using a turkey baster and warm water. Thanks!!!
Glad it helped!
Thanks! Fixed it! Hardest part of repair is taking all the stuff out of the refrigerator !!
I watched yours and another gentleman's before start of the work, you guys are great! Thank you. Especially showing the replacement part, so I don't have to open it up twice.
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks for your most useful video. I first watched it a few months back, ordered the new part, put it in a drawer and hoped the problem would work itself out.
I'm happy to report that upon much prodding and badgering, I finally did the job. So far so good.
Thanks again.
Congrats on getting it done Paul!
I think next time i head out of town for a night, i'm just going to move my food to my back up fridge, and open the doors to let it thaw. Just a really bad design from Samsung

You can just slide the old clip over and out of the way. No need to remove it.

Where can I get that clip!
Below is the post:
"Hold the power freeze and fridge buttons for 8 seconds, use the fridge button to navigate to power defrost - on mine, it’s denoted as rd (for refrigerator defrost, I believe).
Mark, Did you still have to take everything apart? Or did this melt all of the ice and allow it to drain again without having to disassemble?
Outstanding and thank you for this! I will be trying it tonight.
Thanks for this video. Pretty easy. Hardest part was thawing it all out.
All manufacturers give a 1 year warranty. =)

Shelley Weisickle I promise you all the same problems you are reading will happen to you within 5 years of owning a Samsung fridge.
Glad I discovered this. Just what I needed to do for my SAMSUNG fridge. Thanks so much!
Hi Robert! Hope the fix was a success for you!
@@homefixated looks like it worked. Thanks again.
Still working well? I’m about to attempt.
Wish I had watched this one first!

mine has been in for a year...same problem today.
Where and what do you ask for to replace the clip
If you are lucky the blockage problem is dirt at the bottom of the tube. If you are unlucky the problem is ice at the top of the tubes.
@@peterwhiting6303 thanks for replying Peter. I think I will check the back of the refrigerator & look at those drain tubes first, sounds easier to fix. If they aren’t clogged, then I’ll know it’s the inside ice built up. At least I will know what I’m dealing with. Thank you!

I am not going to rehash the details provided in the other
reviews and in several very helpful you-tube videos. I did have a simple fix which did solve the
problem in my case. When I removed the evap cover I was pleasantly surprised to
find no icing. I went ahead and replaced the drainage tubes and the evap drain
clip. Samsung
A/S Assembly-Water Leakage N DA82-01415A has all the parts for less than $25.00 from
Amazon. The plate behind the evap coil did not want to come off easily so I
left it on rather than risk breaking something. Since icing was not my problem
I wasn't too concerned about the insulating strips. What I did find was corrosion on the steel
back of the evap cover. The cover has a flange on the bottom that directs
condensation into the condensation drain. The flange had corroded to the point
that condensation was leaking down the back of the refrig and into the
compartment. That explained the rusty stains on the back of the refrig
compartment. I cleaned the plate as best I could and dried it thoroughly with a
hair dryer. Then I covered the corroded area with self adhesive aluminum tape,
making sure to remake the flange. Be sure to press the tape down thoroughly. I
did this 2 weeks ago and checked for moisture today. To my great relief the
compartment is bone dry. Hope this helps.
...and Two Years Later?
@@PatriotMarine The corrosion on the metal plate on the back of the Evap cover did get worse so I got a new Evap cover from Amazon ( Samsung DA97-11772B Assy Cover Evap-Ref ) on 11/23/2020. Very easy to install and no problems since then (knock on wood).

I'm fixing to try wrapping some 18 guage copper wire, I picked up at Home Depot, next to the existing ice defroster clip and hoping it transfers enough heat to work. Thx for sharing this video👍

And? Did it work?

@@jbrown7441 it's doing it again on mine too. But not always, maybe every 5 months. Maybe sometimes the fridge is set too cold?

This video was exactly what o needed!! Thank you so very much for the succinct post!!! Lovely! God bless!

Hi, thanks for the video. I’ve been struggling With this for a few years. I found that there is a drop tube at the back of the refrigerator that is white. Hi Paul. I can't say we'd recommend ever shutting off the power regularly to the fridge just in terms of food safety.
Good advice. A note: most hair dryers have a “cool” button that will make the air cooler than the regular low setting.
Do you have a part number? Thanks
