Just cleaned the ice out from under my deli tray for the umpteenth time, had enough and googled the problem and found this video. I just ordered the kit and it should be here this weekend. Thanks so much for this info!!!
Thank you for the video! I found the ice under the deli drawer today while trying to figure out why the alarm continues to go off on my Samsung. It is driving one of my dogs crazy and is intermittent and has been happening for about a week. In the past when it did this, I unplugged it and it stopped but about every year or so, it does it again. This time unplugging it didn’t help at all and it is driving us all nuts. I cleaned out the ice and have just watched your video and will start by checking the drain tubes and then on to the inside piece. Thanks so much for such a clear video! I can’t afford to buy a new fridge right now so hopefully this can at least give us a little peace. 😊
great video - very helpful - thanks! My problem seemed to be rust in the tube that takes water from the fridge / the tube was blocked. As others have commented, I just cleaned the tubes / didn't replace them -it's a simple tube / funnel. Some suggested to start with the tubes from the back of the fridge and save the time of clearing out the fridge and opening up the back panel / replacing the metal clip. The most time consuming part of that process was clearing the food out of the fridge - the actual replacement of the metal clip only took a few minutes. I figured -why not replace a part that's a known problem. My Samsung branded fridge seems identical to the GE branded one in the video. The top screw holding the rail at the back of the fridge that the shelf brackets go into was covered by a plastic cap in mine that I had to remove to get to the screw - only difference I could see.
great job bearded one! very well explained and good video angles. folks at home - if you want to save some hassle, check the drain tubes first. If water comes gushing out, your problem could likely be solved. you can clean out the clog and reinstall the tube in less than 10 minutes AND you don't have to move all the stuff from the fridge, freezer, buy parts, defrost, etc.... just did one today like that as a matter of fact. These drain tubes clog ALL THE TIME.. IF you still have water issue after that, then you have to follow this pro's advice, or call him if you are in the area!
I have a different Samsung French door refrigerator with problem of freezing up and clogging drain. I found same fix using only a piece of copper wire wrapped around heating element and dropped down drain tube about one inch. Worked like a charm after a couple years of misery thawing out my very expensive refrigerator...
I followed your instructions step by step. Our heating clip was twisted and nowhere near the hole….over 2 inches away. I don’t know how that happened. This was so easy to do, from beginning to end! Thank you so much!!!
From a fellow bearded person - great work on the video. Helped me repair my Samsung fridge with no questions. Highly recommend unplugging for 24 hrs before repairing. I went right into it and spent about 2 hrs with a hair dryer. Again, great video and thanks for posting.
Thanks man. Happy married to my beard lol. Yeah defrosting by unplugging it the way to go. “Ain’t nobody got time for dat” other way lol. Glad to help my friend!
Take out the shelves and place a fan inside the refrigerator blowing room temperature air over the evaporator cover. It will thaw enough for safe removal within an hour or two. No worrying about oveheating something and standing there holding a hair dryer. If you don't want to remove the back just do this overnight. Then plug it back in. You can leave everything as is in the freezer which will not thaw out in that amount of time. I put the refrigerator contents in a large ice chest during the thaw.
I just completed my repair on my GE fridge following the instructions described in this video. The part is a Samsung part but works on these GE fridges. I read a couple comments about using a hair dryer to help speed up the defrost. I would not recommend this. I used a hair dryer on low in one small area and the plastic started to crack behind the evaporator. I was lucky the crack was in a location I could cover up with duct tape. A $3 fix that would have cost hundreds if you had this serviced professionally.
I finished the repair today-cleaned out the evaporator drain hole, replaced the crappy riveted metal tab with a better one like in the video, flushed some hot water down the drain with a syringe, and replaced the lower drain tubes. I wish I'd had a helper to verify the hot water i shot in there with my syringe actually came out the bottom! I also thought afterwards it might have been good to snake a flexible bristle brush down the hole to clean it out, but I'd already reassembled by then. I also sucked out all the accumulated water in the drip pan, then squirted some bleach/water in there, let it sit a bit, then sucked it back out, rinsed with plain water, and sucked it out again--just because the water down in there was nasty green. The other part I replaced today was the water reservoir assembly. I noted some ice buildup behind that, so I think maybe it's heater element had gone bad. All fixed now, so hopefully no more leaks or ice/water under the pullout drawer! Last thing I did was mount a portable water alarm behind the fridge with the sensor on the floor, so if anything starts leaking again, I'll know about it!
Great video. Bought the repair kit off Amazon and installed the drain tubes. The heater sync clip was just slightly to long going into the drain so I had to cut off about 1/2 inch to get it to slide down. Mostly because my heater coil was bent slightly differently where the clip attached. It dipped in a big loop toward the drain hole so the clip had to push down further to fit. So after a little trim it went right in. Thanks again for the help.
So straightforward and helpful. Saved me an almost missing gasket during reassembly. Changed out the heat clip but if the drain tube needs love too I'm fully confident I could do it thanks to the video. Thanks again!
@@sharonnelson5471I was wondering that myself. I too have had this problem continuously and have just been checking out the ice. But now the whole thing went out. Will try this fix and hope it magically makes it work again.
Thanks! Worked like a charm. There are other videos for similar repairs but they don't do the full repair that you've shown. Took me about 8 hours in total and most of that was defrost time. I was too impatient to do a real defrost and so I periodically blowdried the back panel.
In a hurry tip: After removing the shelves and drawers I set a portable space heater at 85 degrees F about 1 foot away from and facing the back panel. Leave the doors open so the space heater doesn't overheat. Fridge was fully thawed in just over 90 minutes. Everything else went as shown in the video.
I do the same thing with an electric fan set on high and aimed at the evaporator cover. However I typically allow 12 hours and just plug the reefer back in assuming that it's fully thawed. That way I don't have to take off the back cover. But I like your 90 minutes better and will try that next time.
Thank you for the video, yes we have a Samsung French door refrigerator with freezer draw below and we have had the same problem with water entering the compartment due to the drain tube freezing. As you have shown the heater clip is not long enough to prevent freezing, The lower pipes were clear and were able to be used again, after a thorough cleaning, our heater tube has a more definite V shape and applying the new version took a bit of bending but we have it installed, now fingers crossed it does not happen again, It looks like a bad design fault on the behalf of SAMSUNG, also it was extremely noisy when first purchased and was fixed under warranty, so all in all never again with Samsung.
I already did this and it works great. I bought just the clip on Amazon. To defrost, I put my Samsung in display mode and put A small space heater inside. This has a thermostat, the max temp is about 110F. Reiterating: defrost before you pull off the rear cover.
Although my GE evaporator cover is mounted differently and trickier to remove due to plastic tabs, all else is similar and your video would’ve helped some years ago when I last replaced the heat probe. Rather than leave the fridge apart while waiting for the part to ship, I cut my own probe out of aluminum sheeting. It held up for a few years but needs help again. I’ve come to disdain anything Samsung. I’ve even found their brand of capacitors in other makes of electronic home devices to be basement quality. I appreciate your video; it will help me take repair steps in the proper order instead of guessing my way along, hit n’ miss, next time. My only critique is that you didn’t take the opportunity to clean the fins over the drip tray in the back/bottom. They were filthy and make the unit less efficient. I’ve also found the fan blades there usually need cleaning; uneven dirt accumulation on the blades make them spin out of balance also, increasing operation noise and shaft wear.
Thank you! After watching the video and ordering the $25 kit from your link, I'm pretty sure I can do this. The service tech quoted $760 to do it, but were kind enough to offer a $200 discount. So $25 vs $550... not a difficult decision.

Thanks so much for this video! Very easy to follow and to understand, video was easy to see in reference to what you were doing and actually had the info people need. Thanks again!!
Thanks, worked great. Made my on heating coil with some copper wire wrapped around the heating element, then put all the way down the hole to keep the ice out.
great work! thank you for the walk through. I have a Samsung 267 Series and every component is exactly the same on mine as on yours. I had icing around the evaporation coil. I suspect the icing was primarily because of a clogged drain tube. The ice ultimately interfered with the fan rotation as well as blocking the drain tube. Naturally the ice buildup will interfere with the efficiency of the defrost cycle in that insufficient melting will result. For now, I simply thawed the ice around the evap coil, blower fan, and unclogged the drain tubing that leads to the pan below. I'll run it for a few days to see if the ice returns.
Great video! Thank you! We needed both fixes. We only replaced the clip inside the fridge and it still leaked. Found out that both drain hoses in the back were clogged. The hose narrows to small slits at the top and they get blocked with gunk. New drain hoses have a different design. Or I guess you can clean out slits on old drain hoses and reuse them but check to make sure they don’t get blocked again.
very nice video, i defrosted mine a couple times now and made my own copper heater and shoved it down the hole. my drain tube now got plugged and I should of bought a new one. my samsung is truly a POS. some many issues and plastic breakage.
Old video but still valid. I just did this today. Ice was string. Finally put some salty water in and it flushed. HooYah. Then I did the little heat sink modification and we shall see. Usually takes a couple months before drips out front. But the new modification may be a winner.
I am not going to rehash the details provided in the other reviews and in several very helpful you-tube videos. I did have a simple fix which did solve the problem in my case. When I removed the evap cover I was pleasantly surprised to find no icing. I went ahead and replaced the drainage tubes and the evap drain clip. Samsung A/S Assembly-Water Leakage N DA82-01415A has all the parts for less than $25.00 from Amazon. The plate behind the evap coil did not want to come off easily so I left it on rather than risk breaking something. Since icing was not my problem I wasn't too concerned about the insulating strips. What I did find was corrosion on the steel back of the evap cover. The cover has a flange on the bottom that directs condensation into the condensation drain. The flange had corroded to the point that condensation was leaking down the back of the refrig and into the compartment. That explained the rusty stains on the back of the refrig compartment. I cleaned the plate as best I could and dried it thoroughly with a hair dryer. Then I covered the corroded area with self adhesive aluminum tape, making sure to remake the flange. Be sure to press the tape down thoroughly. I did this 2 weeks ago and checked for moisture today. To my great relief the compartment is bone dry. Hope this helps.
Dang good video. Short and to the point without any gimmicks or corny bs. I ordered the kit from your link. Now to find a cheap fridge to put in the garage so I can defrost this one by the time the parts arrive! Thanks!
I use a really big ice chest and have a supply of frozen synthetic ice to put on top of the contents. I thaw out the evaporator using an electric fan inside the refrigerator turned up on high and aimed at the evaporator panel. After 12 hours I replace everything in the refrigerator and plug it in. It's totally thawed out and there's no need to remove the evaporator cover.
Did the same job thanks to you! I will note it was frozen way down in the tube so,i used a flexible wire (like 14 ga) to clear it ,boiling water and compressed air to get er done.!
Great video. Had ice build up twice already. Indicator fir me Is in hear the fan rattle, knowing ice is building up around the blades. Now to the drain tubes
Just curious as to why you wouldnt want to clean those coils in the back that were obviously caked with dust. Wouldnt that be a good idea to prevent any possible issues down the road??
It absolutely would. I always mention it to the customer and I charge just a little bit extra for it. Customer declined and wanted to do it himself. Cleaning the condenser will make your fridge run more efficiently and won’t be running as long so everything else should last longer. Always a good idea to clean the condenser. Thanks for bringing it up!
Thanks for the video. This will be the second time I do this fix. My questions is this - what are the extra three pieces of what looks like insulation for? I have seen them used. Thanks.
I have been a Whirlpool and GE customers for years and only got rid of my appliances only after they got old and outdated but were still in working conditions. Then I went and bought a Samsung fridge. It was find for the first 4 years, after that it was all down hill. They have many design flaws, which over time create a lot of headaches for the owner. I am never going to buy another Samsung product again. I will go back to the well known and proven brands.
I sure hope you leave this video up. My daughter thinks I cause the water build-up under the deli drawer. I just figured it was a blocked drain tube "somewhere". Maybe now I can get them to fix it. )
Just a note. They aren't always frozen up. I started at the external drain tubes and they were dirty. All the water came out and was back up in 20 minutes or so.
I had to deice mine twice now.It was about two years since the first time. But now i think the drain tubes might be clogged. Its not draining out, even after putting hot water down it.I only paid $500 for the fridge.Got it from my friends neigbor. So i can't complain to much..lol.Great vid though, very helpful.
A known permanent fox for this is installing a secondary aftermarket heating element to the copper pipes going to the cooler as well as replacing the drain hole heater clip as mentioned
Excellent video! thanks for the info on fixing this issue! I have the Samsung RFG297AABP fridge and it looks the same as what's in this video, except for the Samsung model number sticker :D
I noticed the new kits also come with some sort of foil wings. I'll be ordering the kit this weekend so I can only hope the instructions are as clear as this video.
nice clear explanation, thanks. kind of ironic that to avoid defrosting the easy-to-get-at freezer (back in the day), one now has to take the whole fridge apart to defrost the 'frost free' system. unfortunately, I didn't see your video until I had already blundered my thru the repair. I have a custom car shop so I grabbed a hand vacuum pump and a compressed air tank to clear out the drains to add hot water. all 3 drain tubes were clogged as you showed. I just cleaned the neoprene nipples with alcohol and snipped a little brevel into them so they'd open up a little more and maybe take a little longer before clogging up again:). also the compressor fins were completely clogged with dust which couldn't improve e efficiency so I vacuumed them while I had the lower cover off. Does Samsung recommend any preventative maintenance to address these things? I'm going to clean those drain nipples out once a year or so just to keep in practice. --John
Thanks so much for the extremely helpful tutorial. I did not have anything frozen in the upper or lower drain tube, but now I still have a small amount of water accumulating which somewhat freezes under the deli drawer. What would be the next logical step to determine the reason?
Very informative! Found my issue was in the drain tube itself, but not sure what I discovered in there - looked like a broke men off piece of white cylindrical plastic - kind of like a bullet shell casing. Any idea from whence it came?
I've watched most of the videos on here and yours is the best by a good bit. We've paid a Samsung authorized tech twice - about $250 each time to fix the ice under the deli drawer on an RF267 but no dice. When I took the evap cover off, I discovered the drain tray (part of the panel behind the evap) was rusted and corroded thru. The new design clip had already been installed but without removing the original clip. I'd already ordered the kit you mention and now have ordered a new drain plate. As others have mentioned, its difficult to know what to do with a freezer full of food. So last week we bought a new LG french door - fingers crossed. Now trying to make this Samsung a secondary basement frig. Question: what do you do with the 3 stick on foil strips that come in the kit?
Those are for models built before 2011. I failed to mention it so I apologize for that. They go around the evap aluminum bracket. Haven’t seen one that old in awhile so the next time I run into one I’ll make another video on them. This kit helps most people but sometimes it just needs a little bit more. Samsung authorized folks should be able to determine those issues for you. Depends on the tech they send I guess. Some just don’t have their hearts in this stuff like others do. Sound like it would be a good garage fridge though. Best looking one in the block! Lol
Thanks for the quick reply. Mine has an August 2008 mfg date. Do the 2 adhesive foil strips go vertically on the back of the drip tray plate - between the plate & the back wall of the frig? Or on the front side of the plate between it & the evap coils? Also the larger adhesive foil bottom piece - does it stick on the top part of the drip tray drain channel or on the underneath side? I ordered a new drip tray which arrives tomorrow.
its me yes the skinny ones go in the back side of the aluminum. Between the wall and the bracket. Be careful doing this because if you make a hole in the evaporator you have a bigger problem in your hands. The bigger strip goes on top of the drain pan. You must have done your research. Kudos to you my friend.
Got it. Done now. We'll see how it goes. The important clarification for me was the placement of the larger foam strip. It also goes on the bottom back of the drip tray, folds underneath the drip channel & up to the front lip. I found the tech services bulletins - there are at least 3 between 2014 & 2017. I bought this kit to fix it. But, can I turn off the ice maker, will this help? And what temps should freezer and refrigerator be set at to help this freezing issue, if larger clip doesnt help

Does this issue also affect the temperature in the fridge? I have the parts on back order, and noticed the temperature inside is about 7 degrees warmer than the setting on the outside of the fridge?

Thank you SO much for this video... A $20 fix for this expensive ass fridge is an awesome help! Thank you thank you!
F*ckin seriously! Amen to that.
Hi can you send the link for those new parts ? Thanks
great video - very helpful - thanks!
Great job! Thanks for the tutorial. I cancelled the repair service and did it myself. While in there, I cleaned the entire inside, too!!
Thanks again!
where does the water go after bit drains
never mind i saw it, does that water in the bottom pan just evaporate when all the frozen water drains down?
@@sharonnelson5471I was wondering that myself. I too have had this problem continuously and have just been checking out the ice. But now the whole thing went out. Will try this fix and hope it magically makes it work again.
Have to say your video explains the problem and the fix better than half a dozen other video I watched. Thanks
Thank you for your clear instructions. My husband followed them and repaired our fridge for just $6! You are amazing!
Hi where did you order parts from? I need to do this to my fridge. Thanks!
I think we searched heater clip for Samsung refrigerator
Check for it on Amazon
Perfect instructions! Thanks. I fixed my fridge easily and is now running like new.
is it still good? wondering because i am about to do this/
Sue where did you buy the parts? I need to do this to my fridge too.
@@nancydutra7347 did you find the kit? The link provided says out of stock.
@@dougprentice1363 I did and it worked great. Fixed our problem. We ordered from Amazon.
@@dougprentice1363 amazon
Thanks!
Thank you for posting this video. You have saved me $100s in repair costs.
Thats a grossly overpriced estimate unless you have a multitude of symptoms.
@@SpiritCannon He wanted to replace the back panel, harnessing, and electronics, just in case there'd been some warping and moisture leakage. And he didn't even have the kit on him, despite it being in the appointment notes. This was a certified tech, and in the end, he seemed so embarrassed by me refusing the quote he didn't write up or charge for the home call. Fixed it ourselves pretty soon after and it's been fine ever since.
The steps mentioned here are applicable to GE refrigerator. Thank you for clearly documenting the steps!
Thanks for helping a 72 year old woman fix her refrigerator. It took less than 15 minutes to do the repair and I am thrilled. At age 6 my grandson told me he didn’t need to go to school because he could learn everything he needed to know from you tube. He’ s probably right.
Thank you so much I just fixed mine yesterday and so far so good no more water collecting in the bottom
Thanks so much for this video! Very easy to follow and to understand, video was easy to see in reference to what you were doing and actually had the info people need. Thanks again!!
Thanks, worked great. Made my on heating coil with some copper wire wrapped around the heating element, then put all the way down the hole to keep the ice out.
great idea!!!
that's what I was thinking, how's it going, any more leaks?
@@angelessolis1632 I’d did this a few years ago and now I’m back to having huge ice sheets under my deli drawer
great work! thank you for the walk through.
You make it look so easy. Will tackle this when I order the parts. Thank you!!!!
Hi were you able to order parts and if so from where?
So thrilled with this video. I was able to skip defrosting it first by using a hair dryer, FYI. Thank you SO much.
Hair dryer thawing is not good advice for the uninitiated. It can warp the plastic cover so it doesn’t fit properly.
This video helped me fix my mom's refrigerator yesterday! Thank you so much!
Thank you for your help! Took awhile for ice in line to melt........ good as new now!
Thank you sir! I just completed this and your video helped me have confidence. You probably saved me a few hundred dollars!
Excellent!
Thank you kind sir! Your video was on target and I got the fridge fixed!
Excellent tutorial, thanks so much for putting this together!
Excellent video, to the point no riffraff Thumbs up
Great video. Really informative. I just noticed our leak a month or 2 ago and thanks to your video, I am ready to tackle it!!
Excellent instructions. Performed this fix on a Samsung that's practically identical to this GE and it was pretty easy thanks to your video.
you are one of the best channels out there bro. shout out from an appliance guy in NH
Awesome! Thank you!
Did the same job thanks to you! I will note it was frozen way down in the tube so,i used a flexible wire (like 14 ga) to clear it ,boiling water and compressed air to get er done.!
Yeah without a steamer it can be challenging. Glad you got her done!
Your video was excellent! Everything in the repair went perfectly with your video. Thank you!
Great video. Had ice build up twice already. Indicator fir me Is in hear the fan rattle, knowing ice is building up around the blades. Now to the drain tubes
Do you have a link for where to get the parts?
Thanks.
Great video & easy to follow - Thanks Beard Guy!
Thanks! Glad we can help!
Thanks for this video.. We were able to replace and repair ourselves. From Colorful Colorado.
Very nice video and spot on. Could you in the future post the link with the replacement parts number? I will sub to you. Great video, spot on.
Excellent tutorial! Thanks from Brazil!
Maybe now I can get them to fix it. )
Awesome video. Perfectly explained and video was right on. Thank you
Awesome and very educational video. Need to get the replacement parts first from Samsung that great to know!!! thank you.
Just a note. They aren't always frozen up. I started at the external drain tubes and they were dirty. All the water came out and was back up in 20 minutes or so.
I'm going to try that and hope for the best. I have a Samsung fridge and it's an identical design.
That was an excellent presentation and tutorial. Thanks
A known permanent fox for this is installing a secondary aftermarket heating element to the copper pipes going to the cooler as well as replacing the drain hole heater clip as mentioned
Wish I knew this a long time ago. Great information, and tutorial video.
Excellent video! thanks for the info on fixing this issue! I have the Samsung RFG297AABP fridge and it looks the same as what's in this video, except for the Samsung model number sticker :D
Yep samsung built this one. GE just put there name on it. Glad to be of service to you though.
Appreciate the video.. Well done! Have purchased the parts using your affiliate link!
Awesome, thank you!
I noticed the new kits also come with some sort of foil wings. I'll be ordering the kit this weekend so I can only hope the instructions are as clear as this video.
Love the videos. Keep doing God's work!
Very helpful. Saved us a lot of money!
thanks a ton for making this - will save me a bunch of time.
nice clear explanation, thanks. kind of ironic that to avoid defrosting the easy-to-get-at freezer (back in the day), one now has to take the whole fridge apart to defrost the 'frost free' system. unfortunately, I didn't see your video until I had already blundered my thru the repair. --John
Samsung doesn't even acknowledge that there's a problem.
We are having the same problem . thank you for great video.
Hi! Thank you so much for all the tips.
I had a question about the drain tubes on the back of the fridge.
Where is the water suppose to drain to ?
Into a pan where the heat from the condenser coils evaporates the water.
Thanks so much for the extremely helpful tutorial. I did not have anything frozen in the upper or lower drain tube, but now I still have a small amount of water accumulating which somewhat freezes under the deli drawer. What would be the next logical step to determine the reason?
Did you figure it out Steve? We're also still having water under the deli drawer..
great video!!! short and to the point! No extra 30 minutes of dumb a@# "I like to hear myself talk" BS. Thank You!
Thanks very much, I have exactly same problem, I will try to fix / repair as per your video. thank you again.
Great instructions thank you fixed mine AAAA+++ Just wondering why you did not clean the coils with a shop vac wile you had it off
I thought the same thing!
This was extremely helpful. Thank you.
Great video. Did mine today. Hopefully it will work. Thanks!
Great video. Mine was frozen in the back panel. I had originally put an extra copper wire on the black heating element. I already cleaned the tubes. 2 years later, frozen again. I bought this kit to fix it. But, can I turn off the ice maker, will this help? And what temps should freezer and refrigerator be set at to help this freezing issue, if larger clip doesnt help
Thank you!! Fridge is fixed!!!
Why didn’t you vacuum off the dirty coils before putting the back on? Thanks for the other info!
Awesome instructions, we are going to give this a try. Can you please tell me what kit we need to buy? Our fridge looks just like the one in the video, and I have taken it apart to clean out the water and ice, repeatedly. Thanks!!
Does this issue also affect the temperature in the fridge? I have the parts on back order, and noticed the temperature inside is about 7 degrees warmer than the setting on the outside of the fridge?
While you have the back panel off be sure to vacuum the coils. The unit will run cooler
And reduce your electric bill and make the fridge last longer.
Great video! We're having the same issue. Can you give a part number for the kit? And best source? Thanks
It's in the video description.
Thanks for the great video! A couple of questions: can I turn off the water so it will stop leaking until I can get it fixed? How do I do that? Can the fridge run like that? Thanks!
No if it is this issue that won't stop the leak. The leak is coming from the cooling system on this one. Only way to stop it is fix it or un-plug it.
Hi. Have they fixed this issue in the new bespoke 4 door flex models with all around cooling. ?
