My Asian friend isn't rich, but to fulfill his parents' desire to invite almost 1000 guests made him in huge debt. Until now he hasn't finished the wedding payment even if he already has 2 children.

I attended a 1200 humans wedding before held at a convention center. It was ridiculous. The groom got to flying fox down to the stage to his bride who was sitting on the chair, pretending to be kidnapped. Then there was this whole...skit that went on about how groom saved the bride and they lived happily ever after. This happened about 5 years back and currently, they're filing for divorce. Found out that the groom was seeing someone else and the bride is a very controlling person. 😬🤷♀️

@@Sunshine4 My mom who grew up in the middle east explained it to me this way: she said basically everyone in your neighborhood grew up together into adulthood and were friends, extended families (your parents each had several siblings, and they each had several children, and your parents were close with their cousins who were also too many to count) were always hanging out at each others homes and at the grandparent's homes, especially during the summers, and if you grew up in a really small town, you were somehow related to many people in town in some way, so you knew them all. My mom said growing up wedding events were a few days long, and since everyone invited everyone, there was a wedding once about every 2 weeks in the summers. Of course the times have changed since my mom's childhood and youth, so its less so like this, but Middle Eastern culture overall is a very extroverted one, regardless if you're Middle Eastern Christian, Muslim, etc. Growing up in the U.S., I can't keep up with my mom in social settings because she was raised in such a heavily extroverted culture, she can talk to even strangers so easily and clicks with them immediately lol.

They stayed when the british went away. We now have different religions because slaves came from many different part of the world. My friend is a muslim and i'm a hindu for exemple. Weddings from my country have small bits of every culture included so I guess we also have the african culture incorporated. I hope this was easier to understand.

I'm Turkish and we had almost 550 people in our wedding. We do big weddings here in this part of the world, it's just how it is :) And as they said, it's more for the families and not for the couple.

@phoebe For a wedding with 500-600 people it will probably cost around 40.000 to 50.000 Turkish Liras. But of course, you always have the option to do a fancier one or a cheaper one. Mine cost 40.000 with everything included (wedding dress+tux+make up etc). But another thing in our culture is that it's the parents who pay for it, so again the wedding is for the parents and not for the couple :) It helps to get parents' support because this is a huge amount of money for young people to spend!

@@Rayessunny Parents usually pay for almost everything. In our case, our parents paid for the wedding, the honeymoon and every little pit and piece. But these days young people go for small weddings that they pay for.

In white cultures , couple need to date and save for years to have a wedding they want , but at the same time only have their mum dad and blood relatives and friends at their weddings. In our weddings its family friends close and distant relatives & we gift the bride and groom either money or gold that will then be the couples to spend or invest with. some couples give it to their families cause they spent so much for them.
generally the hens and engagement is on the girls family & the wedding is on the grooms. We have alot of tradition into our weddings

@@jaylinsolano7436 in arab weddings we dont just invited the couple's friends and close family...in addition to that the parents friends and extend relatives are invited... the neighbors are invited...the close families relatives are invited...of course all of this applies to both bride and groom...we have very big families sooo all of these can reach to more than 1000 guests but normally 500-600 will be at the wedding

The "show" looked amazing but man that was way way too much for me! Best wedding I've ever been to was my sister's: we were 70 and for the evening festivities there was no dancing because there had been a death in the groom's family the week before. The bride and groom rented a boat and we (the guests) went on a night cruise along the Seine and admired all the landmarks in Paris. It was simple, emotional and so beautiful! As for my own wedding there will be even less than 70 guests. To each their own, I hope their life as newlyweds brings them joy and fulfillment!!

At that size, it's not just about who your spouse and you know, but also who all your parents and your spouse's parents know.
Everyone in ur family is gonna invite family and friends and u invite everyone who ever invited you and ur family to their wedding *welcom to the middle east*
My family is Indian, and 400 people at a wedding is considered pretty average/small for us. Out of that, my close friends would make up about 25 people. Our weddings are way less of a celebration of "the couple's love" and way more about celebrating the joining of 2 families, so pretty much everyone that's somewhat close to the immediate family members of the bride and the group are invited, and those numbers add up pretty quickly.

In Arab weddings,your family,your mother's family,your father's family,your friends from university,school or people you knew from other places are ALL invited to the wedding.SO imagine having your sisters and their children with their husbands,your mom and dad and your grandparents along with your aunts and uncles,their spouse and children and their grand children.Multiply that by 2(your mother's family side and your father's),add your friends and their children and spouse and you get an Arab wedding.

I am an Arab, and I can't speak on behalf of every Arab person. However, in my culture, the guests gift either the groom or the bride money (where I am from, we gift the ones who invited us almost $400). We invite a lot of people, so actually more than half of our spendings return to us lol.

I think every girls' preference are so different. I'm a 27 years single woman and in my whole life I never wanted that kind of wedding. I'm an introvert and it's sickening to see the huge crowds.
The wedding was gorgeous and lavish, but what really was the most beautiful to me was their mutual love, respect, and appreciation for each other, and for each others family and customs.

They are arab Christian's so the bible is and liturgy are read and song in arabic. Very common in middle east especially levantine region
Lebanese catholics read ceremony in Arabic as well

That being said this made me happy I had a small intimate wedding, I got married at the base of the mountain on my favorite hiking trail over looking the city, I think I had 15 witnesses and my best friend married me.
