@@matt8258 He hasn't been called that since the New 52, so like 2011, although its actually probably a bit later. His Shazam renaming is still quite recent, and in fact is being reversed, with him now being called "The Captain".
I know movies getting scrapped happens a lot but every time Batgirl is mentioned I just let out a sigh. That had so much potential especially with Michael Keaton, JK Simmons, and Brendon Fraser.
A sigh is the minimum reaction the whole Batgirl situation can generate, you don't just nuke a pretty much already made 90 million dollar movie that sounded better than at least a third of what WB released with the DC IP. You can't convince me that Batgirl would've ruined DC as a brand when these guys released movies like Catwoman.
The tone for that film would be confusing for audiences. Her costume looks like a cartoon, but it’s supposed to be in the dark and scary part of the DCEU. And they probably thought that the race swap made her unrecognizable to comic fans. Which isn’t her defining characteristic, but it adds to the confusion. At least that’s what I think the SUITS at WB thought when they cancelled it.
@marcamusprime9513 I would buy that the suits would think something like that. Don't forget that the film was supposed to release post The Flash and feature Micahel Keaton as the default universe Batman. Then they decided to walk back that decision, removing Michael from The Flash's ending and his cameo in Aquaman 2. I'm guessing he was a bit more than a cameo in Batgirl meaning reshoots would cost more than the budget allowed, so they crunched the numbers and decided it would be more financially viable to just scrap it for taxes. Thing is they didn't even need to walk back the Keaton thing cause they were rebooting by the end of that same year, so it wouldn't matter anyway
My only fear with Gunn taking over is that EVERYTHING will be like Guardians, Suicide Squad and Peacemaker because that is all ive seen him put out. My favorite MCU movies are the ones that broke the mold and felt different from the standard. Gunns movies are partially great BECAUSE they stand out as different all the others they're connected to.
Glad to hear someone else sing the praises of Birds of Prey. It was such a fun and fantastic romp with great characterization, writing, and action. It got totally robbed.
Agreed, I think it's the most underrated superhero movie, I didn't have very high expectations for it after seeing reviews but after watching it I felt like I'd seen a completely different movie than what everyone else saw.
Same in regards to BOP, I think die hard DC fans got hung up on Cass's portrayal being too different from her comic book counterpart and how the film felt more like a Harley Quinn movie than Birds of Prey movie, but every trailer *advertised it* as a HQ movie so I could never understand that complaint
I'm glad to hear someone celebrating Harley Quinn. I loved that movie but never knew any of all the BTS production, no wonder. Those "second phase" post JL films, Shazam, Harley, and Aquaman, along with Wonder Woman, really felt like they were achieving the WB/DC pitch of director driven movies to make movies that were creatively unique and different yet I could see all functioning in the same world. Very comic book. To me it was looking like a promising future.
I thought I was the only one who liked Birds of Prey, I'm glad a famous UA-camr agrees. The only thing I didn't like is them revamping Cassandra Cain, they should've used a different DC character.
Margot is extremely talented, but Birds of Prey shouldn’t have been a birds of prey movie in the first place. Just call it Harley, don’t call Cassandra Cain “Cassandra Cain”, and I might’ve been more onboard. But I didn’t really dig the Black Canary’s fight style (an aspect of the character that matters), or Helena’s characterization. Harley and Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask was fun though.
Praise for The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker has been dealt en masse so I want to appreciate the appreciation of Birds Of Prey. I told everyone to go watch it and that it was great but few people listened and it's so validating to hear it praised as it deserves.
As a long term fan of Captain Marvel... I LOVED Shazam! The fact it was basically using the most recent version as a script blew me away. Also.. while writing this comment... could you picture James Gunn doing "I Can't Believe It's Not the Justice League"????
I like Gunn, but I think he's better at lesser known heroes that he can put his own spin on. Ambush bug as DC's Deadpool or Legion of Superheroes as there Guardians would be my call. Peacemaker is actually my favourite DC project.
I think the Legion of Superhero's are too different from the Guardians. They're not silly rogue goofballs, their teens with the weight of the galaxy on their shoulders, but I see what you mean. For me, Sun Boy, Polar Boy, Ultra Boy, Andromeda and Mon-El have the most potential.

It's always fun seeing UK comedians/comedic actors in mainstream films. WW84 is a guilty pleasure of mine, I know it's bad but I sort of love it. And props for highlighting the cool action scenes in it, they certainly have a Raimi Spider-man feel.
I managed to see Birds of Prey in theaters six times before the world shut down. I absolutely love Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. And I absolutely agree with you; The Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey are my favorite DC movies.
I feel like everyone has Stockholm Syndrome with the Snyder cut of Justice League, yes it made more sense than the theatrical cut, but 4 hours for that story is crazy and the two scenes where Joker talks to Batman and Batman talks to Martian Manhunter are worse than anything int the theatrical cut by far.
One thing that I always respect with big tough guy actors like John Cena and Dave Bautista is that they don't let their pride and ego cuck them from actually acting. To the point of getting accused of some kind of humiliation ritual. They don't take themselves seriously and doesn't have silly contract like they can't lose on screen or contract clause where their characters need to have equal amount hits or more against their opponents. They can definitely take a beating, be the loser of the story and step back to gave the spotlight to other main cast as well.
Also I actually love BoP 🤘 it’s wacky, eccentric, darkly funny, violent, and true comic book fashion! Margot Robbie is a GODDESS. Everything she does is pure perfection. Her frenetic, eccentric personality she brings to Harley is just 🤌🏼👌🏽🤘🏼🙌🏽🫶🏼🖤💀💀
You liked "Canadian Tuxedo", but I loved "gender-bent Alfred E. Neuman". That whole classroom scene is hilarious, especially "intolerable d-bag" given recent events.
Comic Vigilante was an azzhole. He had a cool design, but he was a mash-up of punisher and daredevil. (He's a judge that kills criminals) My only direct connection was an arc in Teen Titans that didn't make him appealing like daredevil or punisher.
Going back to the discussion of Harley’s close in birds of prey, the worst part of suicide squad is that they made literally the best Harley Quinn suit that could’ve possibly been made and then had her wear a boring red dress for 95% of the movie. I also really liked Kristen Wigg as cheetah it was my favorite part of the movie but I get it kind of clashes tonally
My big problem with shazam was the disconnect between asher angel's moody teen and zach levi's man child performance. Levi's billy actually felt much more immature than asher's billy. Both performances were great in their own right but never felt like the same character.
According to Variety, BOP was budgeted between $82-100 million, and factoring in marketing and distribution, and it's break even point was $250 million. (Theaters get half of the box office). It made $205 million. It lost money.
I absolutely loved Birds of Prey, one of my favorite superhero movies. And I really loved all of the Cyborg story lines for Snydercut, Ray Fisher was amazing and WB blew it being awful to him. Jusr don't read anything about what the JLA sequel would have been had Snyder continued (Lois baby drama? Ugh). Can't wait for more Peacemaker since Gunn won't write out his wife's character.
Peacemaker was the surprise for me, especially because I didn’t care for him in Suicide Squad. Top DCEU choice in my book. Not sure about that Birds of Prey choice though 🤔…
Birds of Prey is veeery cinematic and feels slow burn at parts I can see why BOP isn’t renowned as it should be. Still wish the kid wasn’t Cassandra Caine though 😅
The DCEU had some bangers. I loved Snyder's trilogy, I enjoyed The Suicide Squad, Blue Beetle, Peacemaker, Wonder Woman, and a few others. I have faith in Gunn from what I've seen of him. Hoping for the best. I enjoyed Birds of Prey as well, the action was amazing, the plot was okay, but the characters if compared to their comic counterparts weren't accurate besides Owen's Black Mask and Renee Montoya. Overall, it was fine.
How did they not animate a more believable shockwave for a stone structure hitting the ground next to people? That impact would took folks off their feet
I know the stunt person for Harley Quinn for the first Suicide Squad movie. Ess Hödlmoser, they also played Cindy in The Boys season 2. Also just a side note Moneymaker is a great name😂
Peacemaker is the only DCEU project I haven’t watched, he was my least fav part of TSS, hated him by the end & just wasn’t interested in the show. So I never watched it. Maybe 1 day tho
I love that you like Taskmaster but please if you havent seen Asim Chaudry's show "People just do nothing" please do. Imo the best british scripted comedy of the past decade
The Suicide Squad didn't just have an incredible cast, performances, action scenes, character development, music, cinematography and style, but it was legitimately one of the funniest movies ive ever seen period. Nearly all the jokes landed for me
Great video Nando! I also think Margot is a once in a generation actor who's more than just her looks. Yes, she's stunning but the work she puts in to hone her craft makes me wish she sticks around after the DCEU reset because her Harley is iconic. Having said that, I'm VERY CAUTIOUS about James Gunn spearheading the new DCU. Now I really loved the first Guardians of the Galaxy and I also really enjoyed The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, but I absolutely hated GotG vol 3. I wonder which Gunn we will get? If we get TSS and Peacemaker Gunn, then I think I will be excited for the DCU but I don't want that humor/tone in all the DCU movies. I don't think Batman or Superman or Green Lantern should have the same tone as Peacemaker. However, I think that humor style would fit well with Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. So let's see what happens. Still bummed Cavill and Gal are not reprising their roles but I hope Adria Arjona becomes the next WW then.
Birds Of Prey is badass the only issues is Cassandra being NOTHING like her comic counterpart and the costumes just don’t work at all for me. Nothing like the characters from the comics.
I can't wait to see what James Gunn does with DC in the future. It still has potential to be bad, but I can at least be happy knowing Gunn is passionate about it.
WW84 had one glaring problem. I could have overlooked every other flaw if not for this. The premiere female empowerment fantasy in all of comic books spent most of the movie pining for a man. I get that the director (who is great) is a bit obsessed with Steve Trevor because of the 1977 Superman movie, but I just can't get past this. There are a lot of other things about this movie that I loved.
To but The Suicide Squad above ZSJL is frankly baffling. TSS is decent but not more than that where ZSJL is one of the best superhero movies ever. I would put TSS roughly in line with the likes of GotG3.

They don't take themselves seriously and doesn't have silly contract like they can't lose on screen or contract clause where their characters need to have equal amount hits or more against their opponents. They can definitely take a beating, be the loser of the story and step back to gave the spotlight to other main cast as well.
Big fan of all your work!
Also I actually love BoP 🤘 it’s wacky, eccentric, darkly funny, violent, and true comic book fashion! Margot Robbie is a GODDESS. Everything she does is pure perfection. Her frenetic, eccentric personality she brings to Harley is just 🤌🏼👌🏽🤘🏼🙌🏽🫶🏼🖤💀💀
Bruh. For real. Thank you for putting into words what I couldn't
Personaly i am more a marvel guy, but i always enjoy a nice positive video. There is to much hate on UA-cam
You liked "Canadian Tuxedo", but I loved "gender-bent Alfred E. Neuman". That whole classroom scene is hilarious, especially "intolerable d-bag" given recent events.
James Gunn is the pumpkin spice of directors
Comic Vigilante was an azzhole. He had a cool design, but he was a mash-up of punisher and daredevil. (He's a judge that kills criminals) My only direct connection was an arc in Teen Titans that didn't make him appealing like daredevil or punisher.
I just realized that in the WW84 segment, Nando was playing Jortstorm by Slimecicle in the background.
T.S.S. IS the best DCEU movie hands down.
I would love a video of exclusively Nando’s Favorite Jackets. I subscribe to Nebula and would watch it there 😂
My big problem with shazam was the disconnect between asher angel's moody teen and zach levi's man child performance.
@@AJHansen-u7q to think they could've used Stephanie Brown or Harper Row instead of Cass
Also always forget nandos in Philly
The DCEU had some bangers. I loved Snyder's trilogy, I enjoyed The Suicide Squad, Blue Beetle, Peacemaker, Wonder Woman, and a few others. I have faith in Gunn from what I've seen of him. Hoping for the best.
I enjoyed Birds of Prey as well, the action was amazing, the plot was okay, but the characters if compared to their comic counterparts weren't accurate besides Owen's Black Mask and Renee Montoya. Overall, it was fine.
It got Harley Quinn down the most accurate here (Gunn's SS too)
How did they not animate a more believable shockwave for a stone structure hitting the ground next to people? That impact would took folks off their feet
Dude! Birds of Pray is AMAZING!!!!!!
Who's Milton? ❤
I liked birds of prey. People went in expecting a different story. They said it in the title, it’s a Harley Quinn movie before anything else
I know the stunt person for Harley Quinn for the first Suicide Squad movie. Ess Hödlmoser, they also played Cindy in The Boys season 2. Also just a side note Moneymaker is a great name😂
idgaf what anyone says, i love birds of prey. its my favorite dceu movie
Huh. I've seen all these movies but I've never heard of Peacemaker... was... was it on HBO or something?
The Suicide Squad is not the best DCEU movie.. IT'S THE BEST DC COMIC BOOK MOVIE SINCE 'THE DARK KNIGHT'!
Peacemaker is the only DCEU project I haven’t watched, he was my least fav part of TSS, hated him by the end & just wasn’t interested in the show. So I never watched it.
Maybe 1 day tho
The DCEU is my favorite movie franchise
I love that you like Taskmaster but please if you havent seen Asim Chaudry's show "People just do nothing" please do. Imo the best british scripted comedy of the past decade
wait this is a series ?
thank you for the birds of prey praise. THANK YOU.
Shazam was shot in Toronto and area, NOT Vancouver.
Nando u from Philly???????
Not from but I lived there for around seven years
@@NandovMovies Big Fan ❤️, hope to run into if your ever back
The Suicide Squad didn't just have an incredible cast, performances, action scenes, character development, music, cinematography and style, but it was legitimately one of the funniest movies ive ever seen period. Nearly all the jokes landed for me
I do regret not seeing Shazam in theaters, the only superhero movie I feel that way about, I feel the opposite about 2 or 3 lol
What’s wrong with guardians 3
Birds Of Prey is badass the only issues is Cassandra being NOTHING like her comic counterpart and the costumes just don’t work at all for me. Nothing like the characters from the comics.
birds of prey Harley was great, but my favorite Margot Robbie Harley performance is definitely THE suicide squad for sure
I loved Birds of Prey!
Birds of Prey praise is always welcome
I can't wait to see what James Gunn does with DC in the future. It still has potential to be bad, but I can at least be happy knowing Gunn is passionate about it.
WW84 had one glaring problem. I could have overlooked every other flaw if not for this.
The premiere female empowerment fantasy in all of comic books spent most of the movie pining for a man.
I get that the director (who is great) is a bit obsessed with Steve Trevor because of the 1977 Superman movie, but I just can't get past this. There are a lot of other things about this movie that I loved.
Honestly. “DC” is Winning right now.
My favorite one is Zach Snyder's Justice League. That Flash scene was a masterpiece.
You forgot blue beatle and Shazam 2
That’s a different era entirely if you ask me.
that's part of the next video, already up on nebula
Honestly, my only gripes about birds of prey is the villain. Everything was wild, colorful and loud then the villain is just mehhh.
To but The Suicide Squad above ZSJL is frankly baffling. TSS is decent but not more than that where ZSJL is one of the best superhero movies ever. I would put TSS roughly in line with the likes of GotG3.
thank you for reminding me to rewatch birds of prey
I like the look back on the DCEU and some of the hits and somewhat flops lol
Man The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker made the entire DCEU worth it
My bad I keep commenting as the video goes on, but yes, The Suicide Squad is absolutely one of the best DCEU films, next to Snydercut JL, BvS, and MoS
Never apologize for commenting a lot
have you watched Doom Patrol?
KGBeast in season 2 of Peacmakwr pls
