Cool to see Hawkeye in the list. I made the music for that game when I was 14/15 years old, within the Boys Without Brains. =)
Jeroen, you're a childhood hero of many a 40-year-old here with your soundtracks on the C64, especially for Stormlord and Cybernoid. :)
Thank you for all the cool music mr Tell.
The music is still so awesome. Thank you so much for all your great work.
Nice work, I enjoyed.
OMG Jeroen cant believe you have commented on this...this is my 2nd channel and i dont even use it however on my proper channel i have Hawkeye in other videos (mostly down to the sound track and you defo get a mention as its a class soundtrack)

@@flexmaen Sure... And Flimbo's Quest. And Rick Dangerous I & II. And Airborne Ranger. And Count down to Meltdown... And more recent Sam's Journey... Too many great games :P
Can't believe my parents didn't kill me for playing Pitstop 2 on the living room TV for hours.
Amen! Loved that game, but damn the sound was so annoying. ;-)
*Oh, man! WIZBALL. I have been trying to remember the name of the damn game for years. Finally found it. One of my ultimate favorites. Honestly, how heartwarming and joyous it is when you revisit and rediscover your favorite childhood things. It makes aging and old-age more bearable!!*
Ali T one of the greatest... and remember the guitar sample when you had game over... wow
I had totally forgot about it, took me back :)
Uridium was one of the first games with parallax scrolling on the c64 - a clever trick made this possible. Groundbreaking back then.

Wow, so many games. I remember playing Summer Games, Winter Games, Impossible Mission (awesome), Prince of Persia, Zork, Qix and the very basic soccer and baseball games. Some great music in this video.
This is awesome video! Thank you for your decision to spend hours and hours to make this for Commodore fans and of course to other people too. I bow to you, this means a lot and brings so many memories to a lot of people, two years ago to this day and in the future. Thank you.
What an awesome variety here and some of the graphics and sounds still stand up (as art). The great thing is there were some many classic games then that people would still complain about leaving some out if you had 200 here!
Nice list, thanks! Your video has sparked off some great memories. Paperboy, 720 degrees, Spyhunter are some faves
Pirates!, BCS River Raid, Blue Max, Moonbuggy, Buggy Boy (great!), Robin of The Wood, Endless, Mr. Robot, Soccer, Frogger, To be on Top, Aztec Challenge (?), Simpsons, Snoopy (biggest player character ever lol)... I guess those were my favorites + of course several ones from this video.
No Mayhem in Monsterland ?
No Creatures 1
No Ghosts n’ Goblins ?
No Microdot ?
No Parallax ?
No Cauldron 2 ?
No Supremacy ?
No Hunter’s Moon ?
I agree with most of those games, however Mayehm In Monsterland had great graphics and scrolling, but I always found the gameplay somewhat in the meh department, and I'm not familiar with Microdot...i might have to check that one out. Both Creatures games were class.
No woman no cry?
Cauldron 2 was an uncontrollable non playable mess . and this guys list is limited to 75, not 83
@NightLife UK Is it obvious?
The Last Ninja. Number 1 game in the world and will always be to me. If not for the game, for the the music, but the game itself was epic too
Beachhead II, Gauntlet, Gauntlet II, Heroes of Karn, Rambo, would be a few off the top of my head Io would have in the list
Yes, Beachhead II is a great game and would easily be in my top 75 list
Great list, man. These are such great nostalgia trips for an aging nerd :)
For me, Ultimas (III, IV, V), Raid on Bungeling Bay, Laser Squad, Lords of Chaos and Red Storm Rising would've been close to the top.
Bro, we aren't aging anymore, we're old. But really great list, Scarabaeus is definitely missing and Jeopardy was good too. Mission Impossible was ahead of its time.
Lords of Chaos was a bit too complex for the C64, but the Atari/Amiga versions were amongst the best all time games for those systems.
Another great video OSG just a minor note though Sid Meyers "Pirates" was awesome it's sort of the reason I keep a very old but fully working PC next to my gaming rig specs are (AMD Athlon XP 3200+ 400Mhz FSB 3GB of PC3200 RAM with a AGP G-force VGA Card) it runs Windows XP Home x86 and all this just so I can still play Port Royale if you loved Pirates then this is the game for you it spawned 2 sequels PRII and PRIII but this one is clearly the best.
Watching these brings back memories long forgotten. Thank you
Great list! Lots of my old favourites are on this list and that's good enough for me! The order doesn't really matter much although it irks me that you didn't place Wasteland slightly higher (my fave) :P
Great list. I loved Space Taxi and played every single level. California Games rocked. The kung fu games. So great. Oh yes and Uridium was so amazing at the time. Goonies was also great and should be on a future list, one of the first co-op games. There used to be a store that rented out games for the C-64, oh the good ol days.
Spy VS Spy!
oh yes!
Kind of missing Druid, Thrust, Zoids, Cybernoid, Babarian 2, Sanxion, IO, The Sentinel, Laser Squad, Powerdrift, Montezuma’s Revenge, Buggy Boy, Ghosts and Goblins and more. But good list never the less.
...and bruce lee and commando two of the best games ever made
@@muslimsrememberapostacyday556 arcade ports like Commando get a pass b/c they should probably have their own list since they are not original games- just ports
@@patsfan4life Commando pressed the C64 to its limits and the music was quite epic. I did not know it was a port, but still that game was very fun playing.
@@muslimsrememberapostacyday556 try the new Commando Arcade port which was done in the last few years for fans such as yourself.... it's freeware
Oh man, "Raid Over Moscow." So many teenage hours of my life gone from that game but kept me out of trouble.
Raid over bungling bay.
Thanks for taking time to make all these great videos!!!
There are a lot of action/arcade type of games in this list... I like playing those from time to time, but I tend to get easily bored with those. And a lot of awesome games in your list were released after I stopped using my C64 and moved to the Amiga 500 around 1988.
Bard'sTale was OK, but I actually finished both Ultima 3 and 4. They are much better in my opinion, and at least one of them should be in the C64 top 25. I really enjoyed playing Below the Root. It was not very popular, but the story and game play were magical to me as a teen. My friend and I also loved Colonial Conquest... a great Risk style game. I was happy to see some of my all-time favorites make your list: Archon, Mr Do, Boulder Dash, Space Taxi, Little Computer People, 7 Cities of Gold, Pirates, Summer & Winter Games, Defender of the Crown, Impossible Mission, Elite, Stunt Car Racer and most importantly... M.U.L.E.!!
Best wishes to you and all your subscribers. :)
Excellent stuff. Thanks for this.
I love how you put the gameplay on a monitor on my monitor!
Awesome list!!! Thanks for sharing!!! Loved Little Computer People back in the day. Played it for hours lol. So sad!!! World Games was cool but I was SO happy to see Space taxi!!! No one ever includes it in lists. I stopped using after 1987 or so which I why I probably only recognize half. You definitely have to include Chop Lifter and Spy vs Spy next time. All time faves!!
Played a great many of these back then on my older brother's C128. Those were good times for video games. And, good god, the SID chip! Still an iconic sound with all that phenomenal music.
I would've added Racing Destruction Set, Face Off! and Champions of Krynn on this list. Other than that, I am glad you put Pirates at #2. Great list, thanks for the memories.
He's not much of an RPG fan
Yes. Racing Destruction Set. Amazing Music in the title screen too
Good list, I only would add choplifter to it
If not for the sound, for the game itself. It has true merit.
2:30 ooooh, this brings back memories, used to love this!
Bubble
Bobble was the best. My best friend and I would have sleep overs at my place and just play that all night and cook steam dim sims for midnight snacks. Best times
Awesome list and video. I would include Spelunker in my top 75 for sure.
Paradroid and arcon 1 and 2 are my favourites. Thanks for added the sound of each game. You need that for the full nostalgic experience 😃
Yeah they were mine too.. Did you ever play Gi Joe ?
Terry M , yes I vaguely remember play it. Funny thing I remember the music more. 😋. I’d need to see the game to fully remember.
This should be titled my 75 favorite C64 games. You have some good ones here (all the Epyx titles, Impossible Mission, Lode Runner, etc) and fun flashback to see games I haven’t seen in 35 years but any list has to include Raid on Bungeling Bay, Ghostbusters, and Choplifter, which were all excellent and popular.
HiZ RedShift ...and Karateka.
! absolutely should be on list - Karateka was awesome 😎 remember playing it on an Apple IIc but can’t remember if I had it on C64
Chop-lifter was a good one, well made
Last ninja 2 was the best. I would have included The Great Escape, Hunchback, Lazy Jones, Samurai Warrior, Acrojet, 1985, Meganova, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Green Beret, Cobra, Dambusters, Dragon's Layer, Navy Moves, Persian Gulf Inferno, Montezuma's Revenge, California Games, Hypersports, Choplifter, Scramble...
Dragon's LAIR, not Layer. LOL
That scream in PGI was the best!
Good list, found about 30 games I like/want to revist. What about head over heals, have you played it? My all time favorite!
Project Firestart was my favorite game. All the summer / winter / california games, skate or die, goonies, conan, bruce lee, pool of radiance...aaaaah ! green beret, rambo, racing construction set, ghostbusters.
Adventure Construction Set , so many great memories
Pirates! Was one of my favorite games as a kid, happy to see it at 2.
still one of the best games ever
@@novcia Agreed!
Mine too!
Interesting list! I would add: Lightforce, Blue Max, Buggy Boy, Saboteur I & II, Match Day II, The Goonies, Hostages....oh, and Green Beret! Honestly how could you miss that one?
They're only human, lol. But, yeah. When I saw 'Commando,' I was waiting for 'Green Beret' also.
Deffo Green Beret! I will also add Wonderboy, Ghosts and Goblins, and Bruce Lee.
Nice list! The burning question: Music or FX with your Krakout game today, sir?
Ah great memories, thanks for this 👍😃
No Aliens, Bounder or Aztec Challenge?
My Favs were California Games,Summer & Winter Games, Barbarian, Archon, Skate or die , Bruce Lee, Defender of the crown, Impossible Mission and the Lucasarts Adventures .
All time Classic and childhood memories.
A friend of mine had the C64 and we had the apple iie with 16 color lol. His games like Beach head, aliens and others were amazing for the time! Some fantastic gaming back in the mid to late 80s!
great list! it brought back a lot of great memories! I have one suggestion for the list: HARDBALL! the original game. Probably the best baseball game of that era, IMO. Also, do you remember Snokie? Man that game pissed me off. haha
Snokie pissed me off just recently :)
oh man I remember the seven cities of gold. The opening where you had that hand writing on that paper to that music was fantastic for its day.
Great job! Forbidden Forest should also be in the list!
I really enjoyed:
- Fiendish Freddy
- Bionic Commando
- Most Code Masters games
- Rubicon
- Gaplus
- Test drive
- Who dares wins
- Rick Dangerous
- Ghosts Busters
- Wings of fury
- Saboteur
- Street surfer
- Ikari warriors
- California games
- Shadow of the beast
- Turbo outurn
- Wonderboy
Heart of Africa was no slouch. Learned a RIDICULOUS amount of physical geography from that.
A few others:
Spy vs. Spy, Red Storm Rising, Test Drive 2, F-14 Tomcat.
you should've included operation wolf.
Choplifter; Falcon Patrol 1/2; Power At Sea; Pit Stop 2; International Karate were my favaourites.
Liked all these, I also remember liking Ultimate Wizard.
Fort Apocalypse gave me so many hours of frustration. I just couldn't stop playing. I could never even figure out Impossible Mission. Archon was for-real next-level chess at the time. So awesome to see these old games!
Archon was one of my favourite games. It’s a hard call to put archon 1 ahead of archon 2. What was your best game out of those? It was video gaming chess. Whom ever thought up the games were a genius. Cheers Brent
Your list is mostly valid. Cauldron II could be on it and Mr. Robot. Maybe They Stole A Million. Beach Head 2 comes to mind and Barbarian. Strangeloop anyone? Druid wasn’t too bad as well as Ghosts n Goblins. But otherwise, very good! A lot of gems on it like The Train. Well done!
Yeah I hadn't seen The Train before this video, and it's pretty amazing how great the graphics were for that one. It's striking just how extreme the differences in graphics were on C64, from games that were very Atari-esque (Wizard of Wor) to games like Pit Stop II and The Train where they really pushed the limit of realism at the time. I don't know of any other system where the difference between worst and best graphics was that extreme.
Raid Over Moscow, I couldn't even get out of the bloody hangar!
I actually threw and broke something once, I was so frustrated at the hangar. I was seeing red.
If I made it out of the hangar I considered that a win
Haha! I couldn't remember for the life of me what the rest of the game was about, but gawd damn I remember that hangar.
@@stalzemsty1669 so many old games of the period were impossibly hard, especially for 11 and 12 year olds. Track and Field I can't get past the 110m hurdles, the qualifying time is the same as the actual time in real life! Manic Miner I never got beyond about 5 or 6 screens without a cheat making you invincible, same for Jet Set Willy. Bruce Lee I did finish, sweaty hands on the screen where you jump across the electric shock floors, what reward do you get? He jumps up and down a few times then you start all over again.
@@stalzemsty1669 Exactly the same, I would say you must be my old friend but you would've known he's called Green Yamo, only we called him Green Minge for some reason. We used to have boxing only matches, no kicking, and stand by an exploding mine and punch the ninja back into one. So dumb! Loved Bruce Lee and Ace. Airborne Ranger another good game, very good gameplay with a keyboard overlay because there were so many keys to use. Ahead of its time!
Nice video list of great games!
Some of my favorites that I played a lot are:
Leaderboard
grand prix circuit
Microprose Soccer
International karate
The biggest omission for me was Choplifter, great gameplay and sound for the C64.
Great compilation. Thumbs up
Aztec by Datamost and Castle Wolfenstein, my top 2 games!
Rambo II and Larry Bird vs Dr. J should be on here.
Bird vs J for sure
I absolutely love the music in commando!
Composed by my friend Dr. Rob Hubbard!
@@JeroenTel That is awesome!
@@JeroenTel Indeed it is. Although my favourite Hubbard tune is Lightforce
It's interesting looking back and remembering so many I'd forgotten. I did notice most I had were NOT clones of the classic console games like side scrollers and platformers though. I hoped Legacy of the Ancients and Marble Madness made the list but then - so many games . . . .
Definitely captures a lot of the best. I'd add
Spy vs Spy
Mario Bros (activision)
Enigma Force
Eagle's Nest
Airborne Ranger
Test Drive
Last V8
You've probably since included all of those, I've just missed those videos.
Was hoping to see Red Storm Rising, Autoduel, or Test Drive. But very pleased to see Project:Firestart. Pool of Radiance, and the Last Ninja. But...what about the Blue Max? Mail Order Monsters? Fairlight? C64 had a lot of great games.
While not a particularly impressive series of clips, the list is very good and, barring a few that exist in my top 75 and not yours, you clearly have good taste!
13:00 Project Firestart looks like some Drlphine Software release. Awesome.
Good list, a few games I'd added: River Raid, Jumpman, ikari warriors, green beret, One On One, gumshoe,. Gilligan's Gold, Kokotoni Wilf, Rastan, match day 2, Killer Watt, Karateka
Rastan had the bug that made the game impossible to complete :( good music however
One on One Bird vs Dr J is a classic
Nice List. There were soo many good games it is really hard to make even top 200 games for me.
The soundtracks alone are the best still to this day.
Pirates is 1 for me. It was years ahead of its time. And I can't tell you how many hours I put into Exploding Fist. How many times did you have to Load "xxxxx" ,8 ,1 to get all these lol?
Wow straight off the bat.. what is the opening music? I'm thinking maybe Rambo loading?
I'm really impressed at how much every type of game already existed on C64. (with few exceptions)
Good list and more importantly very entertaining video. Id change places in several titles and add jumpman, gilligans gold, park patrol, kokotoni wolf, ghost n goblins, matchday , one on one, and a few others, but uts your list and not mine so good job
Great video. What is the music in the intro? I'm sure I had the game. Thanks ;)
A real solid list. I would have placed impossible mission and wizball higher but that's about it.
So much memories. some more: Ghosts and Goblins, Emlyn Hughes International Soccer, Rambo, Mikie, Paperboy
Nice list, thanks. I would have rated Impossible Mission number 1. I also liked Castle Wolfenstein 1 and 2 a lot.
So many good ones didnt make the list. Master of Magic, Spellbound, Iron Lord that comes to mind. Enigma Force C64 version was pretty earth shattering for me back then. Could complete it every time. It's OST rocks even today and remixes are absolute bangers.
Turrican 2 was the first game I ever played through- Only gripe now 25years later is that there is music only in one stage. Still awesome
Missed Ghostbuster; Ghost & Goblins + Aliens!
Top 10: Lode Runner, Jumpman, Space Taxi, Archon, Hunchback, Pitfall 2, Pyjamarama, Super Pipeline, Spy v Spy, Elite.
I had heaps of these games growing up. Hawkeye and Creatures 1 were my favourite all time games. I had a hacked version of Hawkeye so I had infinite ammo. I bet if I had Turrican, that would've definitely been up there as well.
Wahnsinn. Wo ist dein die Zeit hin verflogen. Ich kenne fast alle. Das weckt so schöne Erinnerungen.
Thanks for that compilation.
I remember some of these games... for a C64 a lot of these don't look bad at all looking back at them.
Oh-Mai-GAWD!
Its 1986 and Im 11 again!
T H A N K Y O U ! !
,8,1
Played them all....and the music 😍
So many great games where on the C64! do miss some really nice ones in this list.
Personal favorites not in the list: Blue Max, Turbo Outrun, Test drive , Green beret, Crackers revenge, Hunchback, Paperboy.
Katakis! Could never remember the name of that game that was like r type, thank you!
I mis a few gems.
- Henry's house
- track 'n field (hyperolympics in Europe)
- wizard+
- nibly 64 (still fantastic, still have the moves to reach level 37 or more).
- puzznic
And I for sure miss a few..
Project firestart was such a suspensefull game, a monster pops up and I jump out of my skin, I played the heck out of that game,, it was scary and just like an aliens move,, great game. Scary as heck back then.
Can you do a full play through of raid over Moscow
I could never figure out the final level
YES! Pirates!!
Loved my C64 but I loved my Amiga even more.
hi! can i ask you the best shader settings for c64?? every setting of the shader :)
thanks!
I like the RGB setting tbh but its not true C64 then...the colours are great ...this is in vice if thats what you mean although you can buy expensive stuff now to do that on your real C64
haha love the synth sounds at 7:20
My absolute favorite (not the music/sound) but the game itself... Agent USA!
You're missing Ikari Warriors, (Great, cross-country American) Road Race, River Ride (initially on Atari I guess), ACE, StrikeFleet (port from Amiga), Rick Dangerous 1/2, Treasure Island Dizzy, Who Dares Wins, Spy vs Spy 1/2/3, Super Pipeline, Montezumas Revenge and yea... I think, I could find few more from depths of my memory...
Ace was good. Especially in two player mode. The games now have better graphics, but the playability back then was way better.
um River ride? I guess you meant River Raid.
@@ginkarasu Can be!
nice list, don't fully agree with your number 1 though, and interesting to note how many different pre cursor versions of R-Type were made before R-Type came out
Good list. Abd seems like i missed out on a couple of gems. Thoe i miss Jumpman.
