I went with Super ATV 4 inch portals and HCR long travel on my expedition and it was horrible. The HCR arms cracked all of them and literally snapped in half and the portal leaked badly. Super ATV is going to send me their bill at version and I’m getting rid of the long travel because I don’t go to the dunes very much
Do you guys run a front sway bar with the front or disconnect and does the added weight cause strain on shocks when the tie lifts? Do you guys suggest limit straps?
I have read posts that state it's not good to run portals in rocks. I ride in the southeast, and the trails can be really rocky. Are portals very susceptible to damage by objects? What are your thoughts?
You should watch our videos because all we do really is rock crawl with portals. We have never taken a portal out by hitting anything. They tuck pretty good into the wheels.
Yes on gear reduction and lift with portals but how do you figure getting long travel because of them unless you actually put longer suspension arms on?
Good question and it is because the portals add 4” of width per side to the tire is 4” further out allowing more articulation just like long travel. That makes sense?
Yes, travel is travel weather it’s via arms or portals reaching further out. One negative not talked about in the vid however is steering. Long travel arms don t affect steering the same as portals or wheel spacers do. With portals and wheel spacers steering feedback is tremendous and steering effort on slick rock in diff lock becomes almost impossible. Am I correct? Since Polaris doesn’t have a locker it does much better but take a KRX for instance and it’s a game changer. Therefore I know you guys have your own modification steering tricks and racks absolutely have to be beefed up to handle it, but you should expound on that. I run an Rmax of all things for crawling because I can’t afford two cars and it suits my other general needs in life regarding camping hunting, bed space cargo rack attachments. While it will never do what your cars do, it’s crazy what it will do riding with 4 seat Polaris long travel rigs on 35s and a KRX long travel on 35s. I run 45 pounds of ballast in the front tires and 2.5” spacers to add stability and width for straddling cracks etc. Other than insane vertical climbs I get it any where they go with those few simple mods on 32s. Steering in diff lock is difficult for sure due to spacers and ballast. It makes me long for Polaris 4wd. I’d be all over portals if it wasn’t for that. Weller did finally come out with a beefed up rack for us but I worry still about steering!
@@westernslopermax216yes you made very good points and you are correct about steering. We have many videos talking about portals and steering over the years and the fixes we have come up with. We actually relocate the outer tie rod mount to make it steer easier and eliminate the possibility of over steer. We also run offset heims backwards to gain back turning radius. We are excited, Superatv just launched their 600amp ez steer kits and those will be a game changer.
I have a 2022 Honda Talon x4 with HCR long travel kit on 32 inch tires. Could and would you add 4” portals if you do trail and rock crawling or would it make the machine to wide?
@@SlikRokProductions I run that as well and I can fill up the box's and go ride. when I get back no oil to change. Any ideas? get back no oil drains out. No leaks anywhere. Almost like I never added any oil.
@@SlikRokProductions super ATV 4” and I use what they recommend. I’ve not rode it lately cause I’ve been in my new 4-seater build so I can’t remember exactly how much oil. I feel it’s because I have 30% on 35s and it’s just over heating the oil.
If I went with the 4 inch portals, would I be able to fit 33 inch tires on the my 2016 ranger. I’ve recently changed out all the A arms and got the 2 inch additional travel on the front. Also, what size room would be best for that set up
Need to upgrade steering system 100% with portals. I broke rods on first run with stock rods and I was not abusing, was taking kids for a ride. Razor xp4. Rod snapped in half in the middle, threads were solid.

We completely remove the front sway bars and we run limit straps on the front

Where does it keep breaking. Has this happened multiple times? What portals you running?

To wide is an individual perception. The wider the better for us. Portals will add 8” in width
What type of oil are you guys running in the portals?
We run portal blood from Superatv

What model portals do you have and how much portal blood are you putting in when you fill? That is super weird.

What size rim well fit a 6 inch portal 14 or 15?
So a 6” portal requires a 18” wheel minimum.
