This is why I love Gohan more than any DB character.
He doesn’t have to be a ferocious fighter to hold a special place in my heart.
He just has to be a pure-hearted and compassionate person like he is in these conversations.
THAT is what makes Gohan great.
People tend to look down on Gohan since he's not a competitive fighter like his father Goku. He may be Goku's son, but that's doesn't mean he has to be like him. I mean his SSJ2 form was when Gohan really shined in the Android saga, everyone knows that. We all can agree that Gohan went downhill during the Buu Saga. However, I like that Gohan isn't a simpleton like Goku. I mean Goku may as well be the strongest fighter in all of Universe 7, but Goku is really basic and simple minded in my opinion. I always liked Gohan because even though he can fight (and is still an asset to the Z fighters), he knows that there is more to life than strength, fighting, and competition. Besides, Gohan redeemed himself in the Tournament of Power by showing that he is still a force to be reckoned with.

Some Guy Down the Street Beats me! Videl wanted to know who Gohan was in their high school days. And after revealing that he is the Golden Fighter that defeat Cell, she falls for him in a instance. Surely she would never be in love with a nerdy scholar, right?
Some Guy Down the Street He may not be a experience fighter, but he has shown greater potential. And being a fighter is not about pushing to the limits. But rather keep fighting to protect those you hold dear. That's something Gohan haven't thought of.
A.J Thomas Gohan enjoys fighting for noble purposes. He has a basic liking for the act of combat. But he also very much loves improving himself academically and socially. Gohan is much more rounded than the other Z Fighters in that regard, especially his father. He's the kind of guy who wants to improve himself in all ways, not just strength. He also has phenomenal potential but is less able to build power from it than his dad due to not training every day of his life. It makes him more relatable.
That’s an extremely childish way to look at it, Gohan’s not becoming a scholar because “mommy made him become one,” he’s doing it to support videl, his child and knows there’s more to life than punching things unlike Goku and Vegeta, and we’ve seen how active they are in their children’s lives, he’s not becoming a scholar for his mother, it’s for the greater good, his family and his own wants. Would you want to always be training never see your children and constantly be in a a world of bloodshed? Exactly.
