And it almost brought me to tears. It's so perfectly Chet, and so perfectly you, all at once. I've idolized Chet since the 60s, and he fired my need to learn fingerpicking. I spent months trying to master "Windy And Warm" in 62 / 63, and when I finally did, I understood. I suddenly knew how to fingerpick a guitar, and I've thanked him for that ever since. And this little tune, in its simplicity, brings it all back. I love it! Thanks, Tommy!
I'm a big fan of both of them, and was just looking through Chet Atkins video by searching his name today and this is what I found by accident... what a gift.
I've played guitar off and on since 1968 and Tommy is one of the cleanest and most harmonic sounds I've ever heard and he's not doing it in a studio. Wonderful!
I just love the look he gives at the end of the video. You see how hard he's thinking about Chet and the emotions he's holding on. The way he pays homage to him on this song is absolutely awesome. Thank you Tommy for sharing us your inspiring music and how much you are a rich man full of gratitude for the man who inspired you so much.
Great way to honor Chet's memory. As someone who never advanced beyond being a mediocre player I would choose to honor you both as true masters. Keep playing Tommy, I'll keep listening.
How interesting to hear a master tunesmith at work, taking a basic melody and using all the "tools at his disposal" to create something so varied, complete and enjoyable to listen to!!!
Thank you tommy!! Since I was 11 years you are my idol, motivation, and goal. Now I am 18. Love playing your songs. Thank you for always playing wonderful and amazing songs!!!!!
As I watch your face as you played this tune, I too shared the range of emotion and feelings in which you must of felt while playing it. I miss his music but in my consolation we have you and that is so special to those of us that do not have this gift. God Bless you Tommy Emmanuel!
Mr tom is so my new guitar hero..moving,sweeping and finding corners that a lot of people don't see. a real guitarist..and is only one of 4 that are certified guitar players...
Holy moly !..........so very splendid......I cant believe my ears.......we are bare'n witness to something so beyond spectacular every time this man picks up a guitar.........its just incredible....... what Chopin did for romantic piano or what the Beatles did for modern song writing.....is like what TE does for solo instrumental acoustic guitar........simply Amazing ! THANKS
It's your awesome song, Tommy, but you can hear Chet all throughout...what a special, moving tribute in his honor...All the best from your devoted fan from the Jersey Shore...
Señor Emmanuel: Usted es Un Genio un Gran Maestro de Música!!!. Aprendo a diario de Usted!!!. Mis Saludos desde Berazategui, Buenos Aires, Argentina!!!!!.
I think one of the greatest gifts is that of humility. Your outstanding skills and joyful play make us cheer up. It's an honour to know you and witness your ramblings in music. Thank you for everything you've done so far.
WOW!!! This is amazing!!! I’m absorbing like a sponge about to get my first guitar. I hope I can retain and perform at least a 1/4 of what yourself, Chet, and Mark Knopfler have forgotten!
Thanks for sharing your talents with the world. What a great friend you were to Chet as well in the way you honor and revere him to this day.. I remember the first time I saw Chet on TV, it may have been on Hee Haw or the Grand Ole Opry. I thought "wow, can that guy play and he makes it look so easy"!! Thanks for keeping his memory alive.
Wow. Thanks for sharing that Tommy. So reminiscent of Chet. Can't wait to see you live in concert at the Vogue Theater in Vancouver on June 25th, 2017. Best guitarist I've ever seen.
This man and song are absolutely incredible !!! It is May 28th, 2016 and there are three dislikes. This much I can guarantee. Those three are not musicians, in any sense of the word.
I have listened Lenny Breau through got to know about Chet Atkins through him i really idolised both of them Thats a great tribute man to late great Chet Atkins
Yeah, Tommy! Looking forward to seeing you three days from now at Merlefest, the festival we have here in my northwestern NC hometown in remembrance of Doc Watson's late son, Merle (and Doc, too now that he's passed away...) As a guitarist for 52 years myself, I'm a huge fan of your musicality and stage presence/show.
Tommy, thank you for your inspiring works. Your passion and love for people is profound! Like you, I lost my father at a young age and can only pray that my playing will carry on his legacy a fraction of what yours has!
Fantastic mate. Can hear both you and Chet within that. The key change there was very nice, especially the draw back to main melody. Thanks for sharing!
Love, Love, LOVE this! What an awesome post mortem tribute to Chet Atkins! Tommy, you are an amazing musician, "guitartist" (my little play on words) and human being! I've never seen you in concert, because I've only discovered you recently. But as a guitarist and songwriter myself, I am going to figure out a way to see you play in person one day soon, I hope. Thank you so much for posting all these performances and songs. The kindness I've seen from you when meeting your fans at meet-and-greet events has many times brought tears to my eyes, just like this song did.
" and a few hours later..." you are a hero
Indeed
Hes being modest. It wasnt over 2 hours.
And it almost brought me to tears. It's so perfectly Chet, and so perfectly you, all at once.

The entire time i pictured Chet's face, smiling. That was awesome.
a acoustic genius keeping the old style alive, in such an amazing way as well.
I've played guitar off and on since 1968 and Tommy is one of the cleanest and most harmonic sounds I've ever heard and he's not doing it in a studio. Wonderful!
Tommy has a way of making you forget your troubles and brighten up your day. We need more Tommy Emmanuel's.
you're amazing Tommy, love you
To the 18 people that gave this a thumbs down, you don't know anything about music! Sad!
A true pro makes the difficult look easy. Tommy is the reigning king of the acoustic guitar. Long live the King!
Great way to honor Chet's memory. As someone who never advanced beyond being a mediocre player I would choose to honor you both as true masters. Keep playing Tommy, I'll keep listening.
Fantastic. Nobody plays Chet like Tommy and nobody plays Tommy. Love your work. Thank You.
Great tune! Legendary performer!
So sad that Chet could not live to hear this finished masterpiece he began...
