Hey, thanks for making me feel welcome on your channel. I'm non-binary and it's been a bit like walking on eggshells in the fandom lately.

I love the new Tardis, it does need some improvements but it's a nice combination of the old interiors mixed with the scale and grandeur of the post 2005 era. If they keep it for Ncuti then it would be nice if it became more homely like Capaldis tardis.

The biggest issue I had with the episode was a few clunky bits of dialogue and the end when Donna and Rose just decided not to die, it just felt a bit lazy and nonsensical. I'm currently going with the expectation that they're already in the Toymaker's world so that and the tardis dying because it wanted decaf will be explained

Has anyone else noticed that the doctor wasn't acting strange after the regeneration as other doctors always forgot who they were and then at the last minute they reminded who they were qnd just wondering if it is just me who has noticed that and love the first episode of the 60th Anniversary of doctor who

No matter if your for or against diversity in this type of media at the end of the day dr who has been slowly dying and this was the time to bring all fans old a new together to reignite their love of the franchise, by having this type of plot you are knowingly gonna divide you fanbase and are gonna cause hatred within the fandom which is definitely not what should be happening at this point in the franchise.

tbh this episode made me anxious, coz being the most visibly trans person in the glasgow doccy who society, i needed to form an opinion on the trans stuff before coming to their party tonite... coz the most science-fantasy hand wavey nonsense of the episode was packaged in trans stuff... and also the idea that male-presenting people wouldn't think to relinquish their time-lordity in order to survive was bad too imo...
idk, it's just tough having good trans representation packaged along with a bad attempt at trans representation... i super hated Rose declaring herself to finally be the real her after losing her time lordness... like, surely you were the real you before then?
i'm hyped to see what her gender is... like, I'm a genderqueer trans gal, and if she turns out to be that, that would be amazing coz i don't think cis folk tend to be aware of how nonbinary and binary transness can exist in one person.
it is very nice to have RTD fail in the right direction, as opposed to chibnall's failing in a very liberal direction.
yeh the new tardis is sooooo empty and characterless... it'll be cool to see how it is used, but it makes me miss Jodie's tardis.

Enjoyed it a lot, although I think it demonstrates one of my least favorite RTD tropes: the sort of hand-wavey magic solution that makes everything instantly all right. His specials always seem to have something similar. I also agree that the new console room is big and impressive...and empty. The ramps are great inclusions for accessability, but the whole thing is too austere. There seems to be a lot of wasted space. Still, very enjoyable, and so glad to see the Doctor back on television. (Definitely dont go on the internet today, the transphobes are melting down over this...)

Imma be honest, I would’ve swallowed any excuse they gave me to get Donna back.
The colourised Daleks actually hurt my eyes a bit and I hated that insane ‘heist music’ they played during their escape from the city.

I’m no expert, but I don’t get how someone an be non binary and trans. If you don’t conform to male or female, how or why would you change from one to the other???

    • @Paraves426
      @Paraves426 Рік тому +3

Nonbinary comes under the umbrella of “trans” (not indentifying with the gender you were assigned at birth), some nonbinary people feel a need to transition (whether through changing their presentation, hormones etc) and some do not, and some nonbinary people feel a degree of affinity with male or female without identifying fully with that gender

I like most of the episode. The biggest problem is the resolution to Donna and Rose. It makes no sense and was unsatisfying. Rose was interesting at the end. No problem there. I just want her character to go beyond being trans. The Meep story was fun and I hope the payoff will be worth it. So, I will be watching more but please remember to make good stories that appeal to everyone. Changing Davros because you can't have evil people in wheelchairs is not progressive and should not limit the stories that can be told.

So glad this review didn't take the gender points of the episode to suplex city. Seen enough of that, I wouldn't pretend to understand a lot of modern gender issues but not do I want the toxic discourse I have seen.
As for the colourisation of the daleks, I for one largely enjoyed it, though the editing did annoy me.

As someone who is a fan of the show and also doesn't quite get the gender stuff, what are your thoughts of the discourse with this episode and 'Woke'?
It would be lovely to get your thoughts as i'm genuinely curious

As I say I think it's just fan toxicity, which I have no time for.
Doctor who has always been a show to highlight modern and generally Liberal cultural values (as does most good sci fi).
Terms like woke sadden me as shows a inability or inflexibility of viewpoint and self growth (and that is not just those with Conservative values, as similar terms are used by left leaning thinkers to Conservative/right thinkers too)
Sorry to go on but you asked😛
      Please share your own thoughts

It was fun, but just fun, not amazing, not all I hoped for etc. There was a minute there when I legitimately thought them might really kill Donna, and that the trailers had been lies, but no. As I said, it was fun, it had heart.
My main critique of the episode is the technobabble near the end was egregiously bad word salad nonsense, even by technobabble standards. It irked me to the point I wondered if AI wrote those lines. Nitpicky I know, but it just felt so off for me.
My other feels though are very mixed up. While I love David and Catherine, and more adventures is great, but right now, this feels so wasteful of an entire regeneration just to make this singular plot. I wish upon wish that they let 14 NOT be 10. Fine, bring David back, but change the accent, the look, the style, make them feel unique from 10. I know we had a 14th doctor comic already, but I worry this tenure is just going to leave a weird gap when it's over. I get that a lot of this is for bookkeeping and fan service, to draw back in the lapsed 10-or-bust fans and reinvigorate the show after the sadly not well received recent run, but I don't want viewing numbers dictating plot. There's 2 specials left, so I am trying to reserve any real judgments for when we see if they stick this landing or not.
