    That A-tip is an amazing “projectile”! Hornady is really proud of them, and charges accordingly! I just bought a box of 500 Barnes 145 grain match burners pretty cheap from Midway. I’ve had some decent results with the 140 grain match burners, so hopefully I can find a load my rifle likes with these heavier, higher BC “projectiles”!

    In creedmoor I just setup the 145s over 41.5 4350 and fed mag 215s. I started at 2.920 oal going up 5 thousandths every 10 rounds. When I hit 2.950 coal I put up 2, 5 round groups. Each in a single hole. Average velocity 2789 with an SD of 6. Proof m24 barrel.
    I'm gonna verify but I did personally get 2 excellent groups.

    The Barnes is a great value to performance Bullet. The Hornady it’s all packaging and marketing to get people to pay that kind of money. I have shot the Barnes 145 grain out to a mile with a 6.5 x 47 and also a 6.5 Creedmoor with about 50% success on a one MOA Target, and they do even better at 1300 yards

    Wondering why you didn't buy the 140gr match burners instead. Those have been pretty easy to find and they compare more closely to the 140gr ELD match bullets you are used to. They are also a much better deal. Just bought some at Scheels yesterday for $29.99/box of a 100. Really hard to go wrong with that bullet. The downside to the 145gr match burner is you need a 1 in 7 twist rate for good stabilization, where most creeds have 1 in 8. Just a caution on that bullet....

      @The4GunGuy  3 роки тому

      Hi Dahut! I entered the data for the Match Burner in their calulator and it stated the the bullet was "Stable", not not sure what you're referring to here? These are BARNES Match Burners so I used those values in the Berger calculator. And on the Barnes website, the twist rate for the 145's is "Standard" which is 1:8 for a 6.5 Creedmoor, so these should be stable bullets even at my 2,750 FPS velocity.

    Hey brother, I wanted to follow up and see if you found anything refreshing with the 145gr match burners? I'm building out my first custom rifle in 6.5creed. Same situation at the beginning of the year. My 140 ELDm for my gas gun dried up and bought these because next best thing in my budget that was available and GUESS WHAT, they would not feed in my gas gun. For those reading this, the bullet is to long that it doesn't get enough lift off of the feed ramps to make it into the bore of the rifle... anyways, I have a thousand of these rounds that I hope to use on my bolt builds.
    Actual questions, have you found a sweet spot with them for an accuracy node and/or a velocity node? And do you happen to check seating depth in the fine tuning process at .003" intervals? I do suscribe to the Erik Cortina's methodology that on average accuracy nodes are only about .009" wide. With exceptions like we saw on your A-tips.

      Hi Alvaro! I never did get any better results than those in the video and have since sold all those bullets. They were just too long and to unstable for my rifle. Hi Piro! The ZCo is doing just fine thanks! Going to be releasing a review of it soon. I would say however that if you have "older eyes" like mine, then stick with the Razor Gen II. While the ZCo is clearer, it's not $2 grand clearer! If your a 6.5 creedmoor guy, then I just ordered 500 "2nd's" that are spot on as good as the Hornady 140 ELD-M's I use and Midway has them now. @@The4GunGuy No one has worse vision than me, thank God for good diopters. I don't think any optic is even $1000 better than the Gen II, I just love the reticle on the NF 7-35 (mil-c, I think). I shoot mainly 6.5 and 300 win, I know 300 win mag like my pecker. First love Fender Strat and 300 win mag. I only use Bergers with 6.5 from now on, but with Win mag, the ELDs were fine. Got too many strange ufos with 6.5 ELDs at 1200-1400yds and they never did well at a mile, but they sure group killer too. Everybody and their grandmother use these heavy bullets, and I am sick of it. Knock yourself out, and the heavier bullets are too slow, so when videos come out with the 120, too 130 grn bullets come out, I'll watch,I hunt, and group check on paper, and I look for a velocity of 2800fps too 3000 fps, witch is not doable with the heavies, no offense but I'll stick to the mid weight bullets.Aim small hunt good have fun.

    • @The4GunGuy
      @The4GunGuy  Рік тому

      Hi Wade! Certainly understand your position here and appreciate the velocity range you're going for. From a use perspective, I agree that those lighter bullets should be just fine out to let's say 400 - 500 yds and should still have enough energy to take down whatever you're hunting (within reason of course). I'm looking at this from a PRS perspective, where the BC of the bullet is critical to cut through wind out to 1,100 yds and hit a 13 - 15 inch plate. As an example, and just looking at the Hornady line, the 153gr A-Tip has BC's of .704 (G1) - .355 (G7); the 140 gr ELD-Match has BC's of .646 (G1) - .326 (G7); the 143 gr ELD-X has BC's of .625 (G1) - .315 (G7); and the 120 gr CX has a .428 (G1). Just examples of how, for PRS, we wouldn't use the lighter CX bullet. Again, for hunting, no problem at all I'm sure. Thanks for your input here and thanks for watching my friend!
