fruitdealer should be brilliant, because of the backstory where he had to quit progaming and sell fruit, because his parent got ill
Agreed. Harstem overrates Clem a lot though, "it's my name" is not backstory. Almost immediately after seeing Clem's nickname I baptized him to "Clemtard". Same with Bly. Those short nonsense-names based on either their names or nothing are not great.
I agree. fruitdealer is brilliant. the only gripe i have with this list.
That's so fking sad tho 😭😭
If I understood correctly his family has a fruit store and that is where the name stems from.
Reynor being reynor because he misspelled Jim Raynor is the funniest shit ever 😂
@@bthero03 this Is perfectly true, he started playing when he was nine years old and if you ready Reynor in Italian It sounds exactly as Raynor in english
@@YamaArash1 reynor in english sounds the same as raynor in english
Another peak comedy is that he's zerg main toss sub despite naming his ID after Terran
He is not the only Pro with a spelling mistake or rather a "naming mistake" either. IdrA did sort of the same, based his name on the Hindu character "Indrajit" and forgot the n.
@@pops1cle187 Raynor in English will always be Raynor in English, but Reynor in English can also be pronounced as Reeynor in English. Just like the word Key vs Kay.
Damn Serral wins again.
It truly is the offseason content kicking in
It is hilarious to me that Gerald got where it did. To me it's an old white dude name, and not event spelled correctly if it's a reference to Geralt from The Witcher.
It's like Raynor and reynor yes. I also like how they have the same voice actor in my native language. So reynor and gerald are connected in a way
I think Gerald does spell his name with a t sometimes.
Best part of Harstem videos is when he roasts reynor
no heromarine, no like. Thats the biggest crime. Also other players like astrea, dark, neeb etc missing.
Astrea high tier
Yeah astrea and dark are great
@@ZealousPawn Yeah, Astrea is brilliant. Or at the very top of the Great tier.
Seriously astrea!
Neeb is great too!
You should do the actual nicknames next! The Finnisher, the Italian stallion, the boss toss, the shield of Aiur, the rocky zerg, the captain....there are so many actual nicknames to choose from! It would be an awesome vid 😄
I put this on fullscreen and i have no idea why
Quite. I only realised two thirds in that I didn't put it fullscreen as usual but there really is no point.
Anyone who doesn't understand this video needs to subscribe.
This is Harstem level of humour.
So many playery with great nicks or greant characters not inluded. IdrA, Mana, TLO, incontrol, ThorZaIN, NaNiwa (great name, if you ask me), DeMusliM, Dimaga, Strelok, White-Ra..........
Hm.....all these names remind me how old i am, and times when i was watching SC2 esport.....
I was tere Gandalfm 3000 years ago.
Vanya is "short" version of Ivan, many russian names have that: Vladimir>>Vova, Vyacheslav>>Slava etc.
Oh captain our ID tastes are so different. My favorite nicknames are random English words that do not make any sense in association with the player's style and image. Say Has, Reality, Cure, these are my favorite nicknames.
I know women that pay a lot of money to have lips as lucious as yours
It's hypnotic, the "my eyes are up here" kinda thing
08:30
"Vanya" is not a nickname. It's just a "short" version of "Ivan". By "short" I mean more casual (unofficial).
Basically every Russian name has this sort of thing, for use in between friends/family. E.g. I'm Evgeny, but Jenya for short.
Dmitry would be Dima, Alexander is Sasha etc.
"it's not a nickname its a....."
Goes on to describe what a nickname is.
Another point to add, a main reason they will keep calling it a nickname is that some of the diminutives barely seem to bear any relation to the formal name. Alexander somehow turns into “Sasha”? 😅 can you blame people for thinking it’s a totally separate nickname
@@dpend probably the most magnificent English example would be Richard turning into Dick.
You literally described the definition of what a nickname is in a comment saying that it's not a nickname. Incredible.
@@davidm2031 I think the misunderstanding here is the fact that the word "nickname" has 2 definitions, as in a familiar or shortened form of a proper name, AND later as an internet name, but in Russia (and I assume but might be wrong the rest of post-USSR countries) the word "nickname" got adopted into language only due to internet, and thus became a word that is specifically refers to someone's internet name, which is why (I think) people try to come to overexplain it in comment section. It's a weird thing that happened due to one language absorbing English word with a specific definition of it, gaining new meaning while shedding it's historical meaning it had in English language itself. It's fascinating stuff honestly.
This dude is too funny
Bomber used to be such a cool player to watch. Feels like he was one of the first to really nail macro as Terran.
MaxPax is a very cheerable name and passes google test, should be higher
The guy with a red Chrome theme should not have a right to rank anything
SoulKey is my person favorite
Guess whats the first nickname I noticed on the list? Somewher in the top middle :D
BabyMarine should be in there! really great name
I was waiting for NesTea
suggestion: KingCobra
Wow slander on our protoss god, herO. He lives up to his name too
We didn't even have the opportunity to decimate HeRoMaRinE
he probably let him out bc he would have to create a whole new category lol
I like Marinelordd, heromarine, marine king ect
@@svsv1191 I guess you like marines... They're all just variations of the same idea which isn't that brilliant in the first place
@@svsv1191 I don't like MarineKing but for some reason MarineKingPrime sounds way cooler
Gabe is too big to fit into this puny tier list.
Tbh, Harstem is such a brilliant name. It's also an anagram of Hamster.
Thanks, HENTAICOMBO
I agree with the Tierlist. If only Zanster just called himself Anton I would put him on first, wasted opportunity but deserved second place.
I love Scarlett as a nickname. Also Oliveira and Showtime I would put much higher.
And Oz goes straight into pick something new for me. I don't care if people think you are a wizard. Its a pop culture figure, pick something original.
Harstem just loves Slavic names: Vanya, Nikich, Yakov
he knows his vibes
Harstem thought Vanya is Ivan's childhood nickname, but in reality, it's just the short version of the name. It's like Robert and Bob, or Richard and Dick. Ivan becomes Vanya in Russian speech. Hence, not a cool nickname at all imo
I think DongRaeGu should be higher. It's unique looking, it sounds cool and is a place. It's kinda like Rotterdamn in that way, which imo is a really powerful nick too.
@@B1gLupu exactly this, DRG is a powerful letter combo as well and has always rocked the vibe check. Wish he would a included Rottie here cause I mostly like his list and wanna see how he rates my favorite Dutchie
I'm reminded of that SC2 comic where all Koren players getting signed have to pick a random English word from Bohemian Rhapsody to use as their nickname.
"Bohemian Raphsody"
-Queen-
"Is this the -real- -life- ?
Is this just -fantasy- ?
Caught in a landslide,
no escape from -reality- ."
Wayne got way too high. Just sounds like a random dude
I think he was getting Bruce Wayne wealthy man type vibes when he said it sounds cool. I personally haven’t met any kid whose last name was Wayne who didn’t have at least rich parents if not wealthy.
Wayne is great for exactly that reason. It's hilarious how simple it is 😂
He just made Vanya sound more fancier, dude.
agreed. he's not worthy
@@abyrvalg_ *less
Longer the video continued the more Goblin rank seemed personal :D
yesi noticed that too
goblin's username actually doesnt use a capital g lmao. He says that himself, and check the liquipedia
Maru named himself after the cat called Maru.
Maru has the personality of a cat so it works
@@lelouchvibritannia7809 Acts like he’s above it all but then just walks in and regularly causes total chaos in any area he visits? Sounds like his Terran playstyle.
Is this certified, I think it was his uncle that told him the name
That dig on Grant for being too large, he is a giant after all.
good one
Not including IdrA, HuK, iNcontroL but including Life of all people should be a war crime
It's never a war crime the first time
Exactly the names I was looking for
Somehow I know you are from the U.S.
@@Sindamsc Canada :)
also no TLO
You forgot Dark and Soo!
Vanya is not a nickname, it is a diminutive form of Ivan actually.
Whenever I hear Vanya I just keep thinking it is Viktor.
@@MiikkaMiksu I will find you
Came to comment same thing. Harstem needs a lesson on Slavic names, it seems.
i mean a diminutive form of a name is also a nickname no
@@sakesaurus in a wide sense - yes, it is (as nick is a shortened or informal version of a person's name). The correct way to address that issue would be to mention the fact that Captain here is talking not about nicks, but aliases/usernames, actually. But no one calls them so in that regard. In that sense, while you can definitely your diminutive as your online alias, it is kind of not so brilliant choice.
maxpax should be brilliant
Another problem with the name herO is that there is several SC2 and SC1 players with the same name so it can get confusing.
FruitDealer should be best
Should change it to "WatermelonSeller"
@@Fummy007 doing that would misrepresent his build variety
Biggest crime is the fact that TaeJa is missing! :)
@@stanimir5F I always liked TaeJa’s name.
Zoun comes from Zhaoyun, an ancient Chinese general / warrior that is known for his loyalty, courage and outstanding power.
Also, what do we do with the fact that Artosis and Tasteless just decided to pronounce it wrong forever? Because apparently it was just too much trouble to waddle over and ask him his name.
what a nerd
jk it's valid patriotism and respect for your elders
Marineking is a great name considering he was basically named by the people
Lowko should be lower
Something I think the Captain may have missed is that Lowko is a creative misspelling of "Loco," the Spanish word for crazy.
@@ryanpcollins Which makes it even lamer.
@@ryanpcollinsi dont think lowko even knew loco in spanish means crazy when he created his nickname. I think it has a different story.
It was a fun idea! I laughed a lot when I saw Harstem's name put at the top, but it makes sense to like your choosing name
But I agree with this man from the video. Harstem pretty good player, and I think he is significantly better than losers like Clem, Maru, Dark, Reynor and etc
And really good man
Already a huge flaw with this list: goblin is no upper case G for his nickname
herO should call himself "smile". Just plain, without any gimmicks
I was think Grin
Given that he is the only few Protoss player that even gets close to the finals, he should remain as her0.
As he is the her0 that we never knew we needed.
Maru's nickname is just a shortened form of his favorite Korean hotpot chain. Said he wants to change it, but he's already been this good with the nickname. ua-cam.com/video/2fATSKi2czo/v-deo.html
Funnily, a lot of the Korean players really liked Reynor as an ID
Would you change GiantGrantGames / Triple G up a tier or two for the name GiantGrant? I think that's his nickname, also based on his real name, and GiantGrantGames is the name of the brand / channel.
Fun fact: firefly actually get a English ID after he was good enough to see some international play.
Before that he just had a Chinese ID which was '夜蝶' roughly translated as 'night butterfly'. Funny enough, which is not aggressive at all.
Jjakji is your worst take by far. Name is confusing, and looks like someone slammed their head on the keyboard to get their name. I had to check it 3 times to make sure I spelt the damn thing right. Also there is nothing special about Scarlett or Zoun. However I agree with Elazer. Such a badass name.
Before you get to it, I just love the name Kelazhur. It sounds so unlike any other word in mine or English dictionary. Almost alien, in fact. I hope you give it a high grade!
I think points should be given based on the puns you can make while casting or giving names to a video. For example. -"Strange's build order", " This was a sPecial trickery to keep Dark in the Dark" and so on :)
Absolutely. And even more points if it puns the intro: "In the red corner iiiits ShowTime". Other than this being overused with people such as strange
Now I expect reaction videos from Lambo, Lowko... :D
Cham is the worst name for me by far, never liked it from the first time i heard it.
I feel like Gumiho is the best. Get the crowd chanting GU-MI-HO! GU-MI-HO! No other name chants like that.
Reminds me of the baseball player Ichiro when the crowd would yell his name.
I would put Solar and MaNa a step higher. He did his buddy Lambo dirty too. Fun videos. Thanks, captain.
ngl. lambo did himself dirty
Lowko should be lower
I liked the google test. I think MaxPax should have been higher. It's a great name, strong, dependable, sounds like a roman centurion and it rhymes. Also Lambo King is a great name and hints at godly levels of post-irony. But my real takeaway is that you should have called yourself Harrstemzer to achieve perfection by your standards.
Wayne should be at the very bottom. When hearing Wayne people always think about 1 of these 2: LilWayne, the American rapper or Wayne the friend of the UA-camr Markiplier who always gets picked on in group sessions. :D At best Wayne sounds like a random dude you met on the streets in one of the US States.
... Bruce Wayne...?
Showtime is a great name. Way underrated
IF Gerald is Geralt, than Harstem can be Herstem, only 1 letter so who cares.
Oz sounds special. Wayne has positive vibe because fan of static X and batman.
Elazer in Hebrew, gives The Gigantic Turnip vibe (children book).
Zanster is odd name too.. maybe decent but def not great.
Pig belongs in same category as July/Winter AKA no meaning NOR any resemblance.
Thermal/Lowko def great (sound at least).
I understand people want to rate Humiho high, but if you like hoes - doesn't mean others like them too (Santa claus hoho?)
Mc is Eiht. Skillous should be rated higher (originality wise).
99% of the time you see "maru" on the internet it's 丸 in japanese, as a part of a name like "something-maru". AFAIK it doesn't mean anything in korean.
It's added to the end of a word to denote something as a name, it doesn't have a lot of meaning by itself. Kinda like the -y you add at the end of fluff or the -son you add to whisker to make "Fluffy Whiskerson".
So imagine if you remove even that description and leave the this-is-a-name suffix, that's how it sounds to me.
Not including Idra, WhiteRa, iNcontroL, Grubby, Naniwa is the warcrime!
The biggest crime here is SHIN being high tier. As you apparently failed to notice, it means 'shin' in English. Not cool.
I like Harstem, my kids even like Harstem, and it's not bias, you are legit in the top tier of names.
I think Creator is a better name than given credit for. While kind of generic sc2 specifically it can hint toward creating strategy and builds and play styles.
MarineKing was Boxer and was nicknamed Foxer by fans but then Boxer started playing so he changed his name
Wayne is a terrible name. Don't understand what your fascination is with that.
i want a pro gamer called Shrek
Lowko isn't a pro gamer, he shouldn't be in the list.
Winter is a season, should clearly be in bottom tier. Maybe if he was as good as Reynor he could be in the bad category with him. Only Reason Reynor is not in bottom tier is because he's good. A misspelled character from a game should be bottom tier.
So change your name to Harrstem?
Elazer sounds like a 5 year old made the name. I dont like it.
Serral is #1 IMO. Just too cool.
Reynor is a good name despite the dumb origin lol. It actually worked out that he misspelled it because it's unique now.
Zanster sounds a bit lame; wouldn't put it in brilliant.
JUST KIDDING HARSTEM #1 LET'S GO!!!
If Reynor the person wasn’t behind the name Reynor it would be in “pick something new”
This video needs a round 2 update where u add some of the other youtubers like upatree, artosis, zombiegrub. And also all the missing pros like neeb, astrea, dark, nina, heromarine, marinelord, beastyqt, that one super cheesy zerg (, forgot his name but awesome name), oh yeah bly! Awesome name.
Vanya is short for Ivan in Russian, like Alexander/Alex or Richard/Dick (sorry nothing else comes to mind). For me, as a Russian, it literally sounds like plain Joe. I'm afraid there's no story behind that nickname, it's just his name, which is, no offence, quite common in Russia...
Am I blind, or is there no Heromarine?
I'm surprised he didn't put Lowko and Reynor last just to rip on them, but personally I really like both their names.... their personalities might be persuading me though too.
Gabe was simply too big to fit on the list
So no dark?
He is number 1 and we all know it.
Okay, Harstem just likes short-names in Russian/Belarusian language, Vanya is a short-informal name for Ivan. Nikich is kind of short informal name for Nikita
no Nerchio? :(
This list has to be reworked. Too many missing names!
for the first 2 min i thought he was going to rate nicknames "the captain, the professor, danish prince" etc. and then he started with "firefly" lol. oh.
How is jjakji great ? Or even oz / Youngyakov when some nicknames who are completely fine are in bad or "pick a new one".
Forgot Naniwa and Aphrodite. Also Major could have a grid to himself with all name changes.
He forgot the Gracken
Zanster worst take
17:15 well, he is not the only one who picked «Young» in his nickname. Long story short, it was a meme among the close friends and some of them decided to keep it as a part of nickname, for example Yakov became YoungYakov, my Hasu teammate BlackStar became YoungStar
Good list, but:
Cham is a rune in Diablo 2. That's bottom tier. "Maru" is a common word in Japanese meaning "circle". It's the same as the "Rain"/"Stats"/"SOS". "Vanya" is a stupidly common nickname in Russia, as this is how almost every Russian nickname is made. It's like calling Gregory "Greg". Ivan, Ivanya, Vanya. The "ya" is added for many names. Maria = "Masha". Ya, sha, etc. It's low decent. Zanster top tier, really? Swap him with jjakji. uThermal is such a tryhard name, belongs in Bad with SortOf and Wayne.
Kelazhur is literally just Warcraft-ripoff and is almost bottom tier. "Skill-ous" doesn't get the "tryhard"-treatment, but MarineKing does? At least MarineKing made it iconic. No one thinks of "Skillous" and thinks actual skill. Just a low tier pro with an overinflated nickname. "Clem" is one of the worst names along with Bly. "ShaDoWn", just shadow with weird capitalization and people will mock him for "ShaDown's Syndrome". So, edgelord name, but brave at the same time.
Biggest Crime? No HeRoMaRinE, Tasteless, Artosis, Zombigrub and maybe a honorable mention of Grubby? All are passing the Google-Test. Gabriel Segat also manages this with his nickname: Big Gabe, TheCowboy/Captain cannot.
Just did the Google Test for Harstem. The first image is him taking a picture with a fan. But it's a meme picture where Harstem's head isn't in the frame (Dutch people tall, yadda yadda). Meaning the first face you see isn't him, it's the fan.
Also, ShoWTimE should've gotten bonus points because player intros are always more fun when yelling "IIIIT'SSSS SHOOOWTIIIIIMME"
Also also, herO even has another issue with the Liquid`HerO confusion.
if grant renamed to tripleG everyone would think he was a boxing fan lol
Gumiho should be higher because of the meaning, and it fits really well with his playstyle. And GU-MI-HO fun to chear and transform to Gumigod
Wow, most of your top “great” pics I would put in pick something new. Not a vibe for me. Oz, jjakji, Cham. Showtime is bad with the capitalizations. Ragnarok is a sick name
I have to disagree on Clem. “Cl” is just about the worst consonant sound. It’s an aggressive sound (K) followed by an L which makes it gurgley. I would drop it to bad.
Not a fan of Digimon or Bionicle?! Harstem - please pick something new. Also Lowko and GGG are proplayers confirmed?
