  • What do over-worked sewing machines, dodgy scissors, a bull and Vegemite have in common? Ballarat’s military history, of course! Take a stroll with Tony down the Avenue of Honour and hear stories of locals whose community spirit is as strong now as it was during the World Wars. A wedding dress worn by 7 brides and an invading army welcomed with open arms, prove Ballarat really does have a heart of gold. The beautiful Australian ex-POW memorial is the backdrop for this Roadshow where “We will remember them”.

Tony is a deadset first rate storyteller, and those oldies at the Pompey Elliott statue were so lucky to be told his story with a passion that befits it.

Thank you so much for this. I was born and raised in Ballarat, returning as an older adult, and didn't know anything about American soldiers being here in the 40s, Albert Coates, our claim to Vegemite fame and many other heros and significant contributors to Australian history and success. Wonderfully informative.

In the 80s, I used my new metal detector in many of Ballarat's small parks.
Found a number of American coins, most likely lost by GIs.

I love Ballarat. We would drive up from Melbourne , a couple of times a year. The war time history is so tragic. What the Soldiers went through , and the memories of the People , a poignant show .

The aromatics in Vegemite and Marmite are very different, so easy to distinguish. Also, be very aware that there are two versions of Marmite for sale in Australia: the 'original' in the round bellied jar and the Sanitarium brand made-in-New Zealand which is totally different
